Most fun I've had with a mega man game since I discovered mega man. The second one should of been the capcom endorsed fan game instead of that piece of shit street fighter one.

Seriously, go play these. They're free and they're fun as hell.

Where did you get these? They sound interesting.

Fignuts 02-01-2013 12:10 AM

Just google it. There are links for them everywhere. I'd copy and paste a link for you but I haven't figured out how to do that on my phone.

Older games are harder than games today. Today we can beat a game in just a few hours where as before we could play some games for weeks and still not beat it. One game I've never beaten to this day was the dos game The Dark Heart of Uukrul.

DaveBrawl 02-01-2013 10:53 AM

My brother bought Nightshade for the NES shortly after we got the system and we never could beat it. I found game genie codes for it a last year, because people apparently make their own now, and we still could not beat it because one of the early bosses glitch you into a never ending loop of knocking you down so you can't get up and pushing you against the wall so you just stay down.

We decided it's impossible to beat that game.

Bad News Gertner 02-01-2013 11:57 AM

My gf is a retro game collector and the old games are definitely harder because a lot of thecontrols are fucking terrible.

Oh and Kirby's Pinball for Game Boy 10/10. Best Game Boy game ever.

The first couple were told in more of an Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged kind of vein. I’ve heard Ken Levine might just leave it open to players’ own interpretations as to whether or not there’s any link between BioShock Infinite’s world and those of BioShock & Bioshock 2

Depends on what you mean by “older”...are you talking about as recently as the PS2/XBOX/GCN gen consoles or farther back than that? Because if you’re talking PS1 and before I would say, yes, definitely.:yes::yes:

Also, am stoked to play through BioShock Infinite normally after picking it up and then giving 1999 Mode, which will, according to Irrational Games’ Ken Levine, be much more than just a tougher difficulty to try to get through the game on...apparently had some inspiration from spiritual predecessor System Shock 2 which maybe coincidentally, maybe not (thinking the latter) released in 1999.

Yes, older. As in the NES days

It is pretty tough, till you get the level patterns down. 6-2 was the game defining stage IMO. I could get through the game to that point in 1 life. There is a god damn eagle that infinitely respawns at one of the last jumps, but you have to time it JUST right, or it hits you and sends you plunging to your death. Outside of that, 6-3 is a walk and then it is on to the 3 boss fights, with the 2nd one (Jaquio) being the toughest.

LOVE the damn series. NG II was MUCH easier and III was the first one I beat.

Kris P Lettus 02-02-2013 09:40 PM

Ghosts and Goblins on NES is the hardest game of all time..

Yes, games of yesteryear are mostly based on Arcade games which involved timing, coordination and skills to beat. They were made that hard to keep you pumping quarters into the machines. Also now that we have saves all you really need to be a video game now is time.

No way. Ninja clone makes things easier.

And dying on the final boss and getting sent all the way back to 6-god damn 1, is one of the biggest fuck yous in gaming history.

One of the hardest for sure! Never beat the damn thing w/o Genie. That is one game that could have used saves.

Indeed. I remember when buying a memory card for N64/PSOne and 2 were NECESSARY for some games. I had 2 memory cards for CAW's alone on 64 :D

Raven Reaper 02-03-2013 07:52 PM

Dead Space... It makes Ridley Scott's Alien movie looked tame!! Even on Normal mode, I still got stuck in Chapter 5 where I face that fucking alien that keeps regenerating even if I blew off its limbs to pieces in the surgery room full of dead bodies... Worse, I run out of ammo!!! Dammit.. Other than that, it's a good game to play at night for those boo moments with the dead bodies jumping at you!!!

Just got Fall Out 3 and Oblivion.

Other than that I have Dead Island that I never finished last year, and then a bunch of other games I am going through trying to 100% the achievements.

Kris P Lettus 02-04-2013 11:36 AM

Both of those games are amazing..

Did you get the original Oblivion or the GOTY version??

whiteyford 02-04-2013 12:42 PM

I kinda broke Oblivion when I played it, leveled up wrong and couldn't get any further since I couldn't kill ghosts, fantastic up till then though.

whiteyford 02-04-2013 06:08 PM

Just started Lollipop Chainsaw, only up to stage 2 or 3 but giggling like a drunk all the way through it.

Finished Dead Space 2.. Got backstabbed twice by both hot-ass women.. At first, Kendra and Daina should be like sidekicks much like Halo's Cortana. But NNOOOOO..

Those fucking exploding babies and the toddler ones are the creepiest of them all.. Their screams scarred my nightmares permanently. Scariest levels: The nursery day-care and that Unitology Church indoctrination... Who are these awesome yet twisted people?

No interest in DS2 but that's got to be spoilers. You should tag it [spoiler][/spoiler$] remover the $.

stultiloquy 02-07-2013 12:16 AM

Just started Asura's Wrath.

This game is (unintentionally) hilarious and fun, with good art direction too...not very deep at all in the gameplay department, but fun nonetheless.

We'll see where it goes, but I salute Capcom for taking a bit of a gamble with this one.

Tommy Gunn 02-07-2013 06:54 AM

Just started Deus Ex: Human Revoultion... It's amazing. Definitely going to take my time with it.

After that I have Bioshock 2 and Dishonored in their shrink wrap waiting to be opened.

Actually, all three of them are pretty fucking hard. They can give you all the fire wheels, ninja clones, and god swords they want, but it's all about the precise platform jumping while dealing with perpetual enemies with the worst possible spawn points.

Currently playing:

Been addicted to Dungeon Defenders as of late. Wish I picked that game up before it being on sale for Christmas... wasting more time than I realize grinding like I'm playing Diablo and I don't know anyone else with the damn thing to co op.

Hoping the Scott Pilgrim online multiplayer DLC delay isn't another six months in the making. I wanna 4 person brawl, Ninja Turtles/Simpsons/X-Men/Avengers style!

RoXer 02-09-2013 03:22 AM

Games I've Beaten in 2013:

Max Payne 3 - 80
Driver: San Francisco - 77
Shift 2 Unleashed - Holy Shit I Don't Care
Dead Space 2 - 77

This was A LOT better than the first one.

For starters, I played on casual to try and get through it as quick as possible. I know you're not supposed to and to play and normal or harder is the recommended setting but I didn't have time for all that. I also played I'd say about 70% of the game with my speakers on and in a darkish environment. Even under those settings, there were still plenty of "scary" moments and if I cranked up the difficulty a little would have probably been tougher to get through also. I didn't feel like a "space janitor" in this one either, I felt like I had a purpose and was actually working toward something. It probably helped from Issac being able to talk. The visuals were A LOT better too than in the first. Just about everything was improved. Didn't try multiplayer, don't really care.

Working On: Blops 2, The Walking Dead, inFamous 2, God of War 3, God of War: Origins, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Halo 4, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Assassin's Creed 3, Deus Ex, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Spelunky, Dear Esther, Trine 2, Super Meat Boy, Metal Gear Solid Collection, maybe Portal 2 co-op

I played a crap ton of the first Skate it first came out. Then I got hooked on COD and skipped over 2 and 3. Finally played both of them last year and 3 is amazing. The improvements from 2-3 compared to 1-2 makes the 2nd one seem like a shitty dlc game. That and the fact that you can actually buy the entire map from 1 and 2 as DLC for 3 makes 3 the winner, no contest.

Problem is, there really isn't anywhere to go from there. They made such a great game there's really nothing to improve on. There's already a crapton of tricks in it and if they added any more it would probably feel awkward trying to do them since most of the configurations are taken.

Gutsman is either love it or hate it it seems. I personally like his stage. It forces you to slow down and think more strategically.

The wily stages are the best part of the first game. If you've enjoyed the game so far, you'll really like the next part.

And the robot masters in 2 are more fun.

Oh and when you play 2 make sure you get all the hidden blue squares. The reward is awesome.

XCaliber 02-10-2013 04:45 PM

So I finished Dishonored about a couple of weeks ago must say it was rather enjoyable yet challenging enough if you wanted to play the stealth route and have no casualties. There was a big swerve in the game that I saw coming a mile away but it didn't ruin the experience and the conclusion was okay so i'd give it at least an 4/5 rating. Right now I am playing Transformers: Fall of Cybertron the multiplayer is great and the campaign isn't too shabby either wish I had picked up it's predecessor (WOC) when it came out now.

What annoys me the most is trying to fight an enemy by swinging from a precise direction but the game thinks you're trying to do the opposite or something.

For example, there will be an enemy that holds his swords in a way that means you must attack him horizontally left to right. So, I move my Wii remote from the centre position left, so I can make the swing but the game things I'm trying to swing my sword from centre to left This means I just collide with his swords, so I have to move the controller slowly so the game wont misread it.

Saying that, though, combat is cool any other time and beating bosses is actually really satisfying. I do actually feel more involved in the combat with Skywards Swords controls for the sword and your sheild. If it was tweaked a little bit more when it came to knowing when I did and didn't want to swing, it'd be perfect.

Playing through some of the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim right now, pretty addicting. I like the cool “I don’t think we’re in Skyrim anymore” ambience of the areas like Raven Rock and Tel Mithryn...haven’t really done a whole lot; am working on figuring out this puzzle in The Final Descent quest where you help the old guy find out what happened to like, his grandpa or somebody.

Also just finished Big Game Hunt in Borderlands 2...why the fuck is the main story so damned short?! That’s alright though, been going through and killing all the “________ the Invincible” after-story DLC bosses. Cleared them all so far except goddamned Terramorphous. And that’s WITH The Bee shield (finally got it as a legendary loot drop as my mission reward for “This Just In”) and all my weapons dealing massive damage and being all purple - orange rated...I have come infuriatingly close though.

Fall of Cybertron - 8/10

Best Transformers game to date. War for cybertron was a good game, but its repetitive scenery and lack of variety in playable characters brought it down for me.

Fall of Cybertron fixes this by having each character play differently, and offers greater mission variety. Obvious highlights are playing as Grimlock and Bruticus, but even characters like Jazz and Vortex offer a unique experience given that missions are structured around their abilities.

The downside is that co-op was removed. But if it means a more unique single player experience, then for me it's worth it.

My one big gripe with this game however, is the lack of boss fights. War for cybertron made up for its faults with a plethora of fun and at times epic boss fights. FoC has very few boss fights. There are characters that could be bosses, but you end up fighting a bunch of regular enemies and then the character gets beaten in a cut scene. Shockwave is the main protagonist of the Dinobot section, and you never even fight him. You only actually fight one of the insecticons.

So although there are no epic boss battles besides the final fight, playing as some of these characters is just as epic.

I really hope they make another one, and continue the story on earth.

LoDownM 02-16-2013 05:07 AM

How bout them ending credits tho. Amazing amirite.

Dust 514 open beta

Very early and somewhat bare bones version of the game, but knowing how CCP develops, I am extremely excited. Have been addicted to it since giving it a shot, and have been playing with 2 friends. It's certainly no CoD, and that's one reason I love it so much. It's slower paced, far more team oriented, and the community is going to MAKE this game. Their dedication already to putting out guides and tactics in a game that's only a few months into a real beta, is going to make a huge difference in the long run to the features and content that get added to this game.

Add to that the game being completely free to download and play on PSN, and you've got the formula for a game that's going to be around for a while.

I just got around to playing Skyrim. I don't know how I managed to avoid that all this time.

I read the "synopsis" of Hearthfire, and was all like "I'm a badass warrior sent to save the world, why the fuck would I want to adopt kids?" I promptly run into a little girl who's all like "Hey, you got a dollar? I'm hungry and want to buy food. My parents are dead and my asshole aunt & uncle threw me out on the street, but that's okay though.*"

:'(

So, suddenly, I'm all "OH MY GOD, KID! YOU'RE COMING TO LIVE WITH ME!!!" and used hard-earned bandit slaying blood money to build a child's room in my house. This, in the middle of ending up in the middle of a quest like Ye Olde Hangover and watching a fierce battle between natural, long-standing, mortal enemies in my horse and a dragon.

Again, how have I avoided playing this???

So the Skyrim thing. Is that some kind of Fable/Sims DLC where you have a family? I'm curious because I can't play Skyrim on my TV because it's not a 70 inch 3D 1080p whatever-the-hell tv so the text is, literally, just a smudge.

If the DLC is about family, I'll be bummed that I can't play it anytime soon.

:(

Shit, I feel that.

I had Madden '13 get fucked up, so I borrowed my brother's copy and installed his disc on my hard drive(for 360). My disc will read and boot the game from the HDD, idk what solution there is for PS3.

If you have the chance to return a copy and have a 360, you might go that route.

Gears of War 3: This game really has a curse in glitches. Everytime I tried loading on the checkpoint after that chapter of "Helping Hand" The game fucking freezes while my player is walking down the building and sometimes it stops at the loading screen. Wtf?

So, I decided to skip it and have a go with Saints Row The Third.

Both are on XBOX btw.

Purgatory 02-18-2013 01:22 AM

Currently: Far Cry 3

Holy shit, I love this fucking game.

Raven Reaper 02-18-2013 07:45 AM

^ ONLY thing I don't like about Far Cry 3: skinning innocent animals just to make upgraded weapons and as food supply or health inventory stuff. :(

Kris P Lettus 02-18-2013 09:58 AM

So you don't mind killing humans but you draw the line at killing animals for sustenance and survival??

Fignuts 02-18-2013 02:02 PM

But they're bad humans

Yeah well, humans are destroying rain forests anyway. I wish there was an option to skin humans alive and use them as armor skin instead. How's that?

Even if I was the main protagonist, I'd probably puke and be complete pussy in a nanosecond while skinning an innocent deer or boar with all those gooey intestines that you have to pick up in the game.

Kris P Lettus 02-18-2013 09:12 PM

Sounds like the crying isn't that far at all..

Kris P Lettus 02-18-2013 09:13 PM

Kingdoms of Amalur is one of the greatest games ever..

All it lacks behind a game like Skyrim is a big city type environment..

Never played much of Fable to make a fair comparison.

Not so much Sims, since you don't have the option to trap them in a room and make them stew in their own blue liquids. You can find a couple of kids out of some strolling around and have them live with you as opposed to being an orphan just because or a few victims of shitty in-game mission circumstance (i.e. their guardian gets slain on a quest mission, so now they don't have a dad). They don't provide money like a spouse, but they seem to collect shit in their chest in their room while they go out and play that you're free to take... usually food or alchemy ingredients from what I've seen so far. If you bring a dog home, they'll beg you to keep it.

I only have the one girl, so I don't know how they interact with another adoptee, nor do I have a wife yet, so I don't know if there are any dynamics at that, either.

I also don't have any other DLC. I got Hearthfire simply because I like the idea of custom building a house. I'm also the same kind of guy who bought a couple wrestling games simply to dick around in the CAW for hours making various friends and celebrities and barely touching the gameplay. The game itself isn't even mine, but I will end up picking it up soon.

On a side note: enabling direct child killing is a hot-button no-no for games, but witnessing one scripted to roam around and sleep out in the rain behind the inn if you don't decide to provide them a place to stay is a perfectly healthy kind of player trauma to enduce.

It's not that great for DLC. You can build a house and adopt kids. I wouldn't call it on par with the Sims, but its sort of on par with Fable. You can give them gifts and tell them to do chores, go home, play tag or hide and seek with them. It's also just 5 bucks, so I didn't really expect anything epic.

Kris P Lettus 02-19-2013 11:24 AM

Drakul you can get a 720p tv for like $250 that will fix all the text problems..

Aliens: Colonial Marines..

You're gonna have a REALLY BAD TIME...

Played the Dust 514 beta for about 2 hours now. I know it's beta, but the controls seem really unresponsive at times, could just lag, not sure if there is away to see what your lag is. Suck at the game tho, haven't really played any FPS games except for Timesplitters in months, rusty.

Mouse/Keyboard is where it's at. The controls just never felt right to me with a controller.

Have become pretty addicted to this game, as I know the game is going to have a lot of potential for expanded content. They have a lot planned for the connections between EVE and Dust.

Heisenberg 02-21-2013 02:12 PM

Kris P Lettus 02-22-2013 12:51 PM

Jabba, you really liked Allan Wake?? I was interested when it first came out but a dude at gamestop called me retarded for wanting it and he said it was horrible..

LoDownM 02-22-2013 03:08 PM

Hope you don't go to that Gamestop anymore. Game got some pretty good reviews and I always used to hear people on podcasts say how much they liked it.

drave 02-22-2013 04:02 PM

It is a decent title. It is along the lines of survival horror / interactive story. Maybe that jackwagon @ Gamestop wanted MOAR ACTION to get his CoD fix.

It is worth it man.

drave 02-22-2013 04:02 PM

GOnna pick up the Mass Effect Trilogy this weekend. Never played through any of them, just some demos.

Excited to get started.

PS Plus just keeps piling more and more games on my download queue and I dont even know where to start with them.

So far I have Sleeping Dogs, Borderlands, Bioshock 2, Vanquish, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Just Cause 2, F1 Race Stars, Bulletstorm, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Crysis 2, Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light, Cubixx HD, Big Sky Infinity, Starhawk, Guardians of Middle Earth, Quantum Conundrum & Knytt Underground. Add Mass Effect 3, Puddle and Dead or Alive 5 next month. So yeah, whats good?

Games I've Beaten in 2013

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker HD

Megaman: Day in The Limelight
Ni No Kuni

OssMan 02-22-2013 09:02 PM

Games I've beaten in 2013:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Super Castlevania IV
Pokemon Trading Card Game

Well I'd been working on this one on and off for probably two years. I always liked this game. These cunts at the Grass Club held me over for a while. But after a four hour binge yesterday I came away with the rest of the medals I needed and beat it tonight. It's pretty cheap, and feels like the computer is cheating a lot of the time. The deck I used to beat pretty much everybody was mostly fire based with a little bit of electric, but I mostly relied on Dragonair and Tauros and to a lesser extent Charmeleon, Rapidash, and Pikachu/Raichu.

I really liked the intrigue of the story, and the tension progression. It also does a good job of not bombarding you with enemies, and throwing just enough so they're always a threat, but you're still left in suspense quite a bit (ala Dead Space).

I'd definitely have it down as a "must play".

I finally got around to playing ME1 and actually polished off a playthrough that ended with my FemShep surviving so I won’t have to go and recreate her all over again for 2.

drave 02-24-2013 12:45 AM

ho-ly shit..... kicking myself as hard as possible for not playing Mass Effect before now. Only an hour in and this game is fucking amazing.
