Defiance 9/10 — Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defiance_(2008_film)

I thought this was an excellent film. I was a bit hesitant at first about watching it, but glad I did. I love movies based on real events, however loosely, and this one is a great story. Pretty well done and the story is pretty amazing to think about, considering the circumstances. Basically a few brothers seek refuge in the woods of Belorussia when the Germans invade during WWII, and their camp grew to around 1200 people over the span of a couple years.

Total Recall 7/10.

This movie was weird...

A few legit 'LOL moments' but they seemed to be few and far between.

I once made a topic on this film following watching it. Zero replies. Just about over that.

Ludicrous (especially firing bullets around people/corners and such) but good fun nonetheless

Direct Contact - 8/10.

Had alot of action in it, thought it could have been better if there was more hand to hand fight scenes rather than shooting, and an on foot chase scene ratehr than all cars and a motercycle. Still, really good. Hand to hand fighting scenes were done very well. And it stars Dolph Lundgren. He's the man.

About Dolph Lundgren. I gotta see this movie

Command Performance

A Moscow charity concert turns bloody when armed extortionists take the head liner American pop-star Venus and the Russian President with his family hostage. Help is on the way when the drummer of a heavy metal warm-up band, an ex-bad ass biker played by Lundgren, and a young Russian F.S.B. agent team up to fight back. But our two heroes are seriously outnumbered and things aren't as simple as they appear when old ghosts from the Soviet Union appear to haunt the present in this fast paced action piece.

The plot is so unbelievably stupid, it must kick ass.

Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music 4/5

Droford 07-22-2009 04:58 AM

Watched a ton of movies over the last day or two.

Underworld Rise of the Lycans - 6/10
I really liked the first two in the series, but this just seemed rushed and really short. There were a couple of good moments but nothing memorable.

The Spirit 8/10
Having never read the comic, I had no idea what I was in for here but Ive liked what Frank Miller has done and this was no exception. I was surprised at the amount of humor involved though. Oh and the mini 24 reunion with Eric Balfour and Louis Lombardi was cool too.

12 Rounds 5/10
5/10 was actually way higher than I figured on, but it was a decent enough action movie with an interesting enough plot that it wasn't outright terrible. Cena wasn't as bad as he was in the Marine but that isnt saying much. At some point after the villian said "play the game" for the 2nd or 3rd time I got the humorous idea that the villian should have been played by HHH.

Push 2/10
I pretty much got lost somewhere between the storyline and all the mumbo jumbo jargon of names for the peoples abilities and whatever (movers, pushers, stichers, sniffers, watchers, bleeders, shifters, wipers, and shadows..). Dakota Fanning trying to act way older than she is was amusing and annoying at the same time. The special effects looked like shit on Blu ray too.

Coraline 9/10

Not quite as good as Nightmare Before Christmas for a stop motion animated film (though it obviously looked much better, especially on Blu-ray), but it was still really good and its amazing the amount of work that went into making it. Didnt get to see it in 3-D though.

Bolt 7/10

I would dare say that Disney's Animation Studio has Pixar beat on the graphical side of the equation and I liked the story but it just seemed like something was missing that Pixar's films usually have.

Watchmen (incomplete)

I dont know how to rate it. I had a very limited introduction to the graphic novel to get the jist of things, and from what I gather it was pretty faithful to the source material..but..Jesus Christ the first 2 hours are just torture to sit through since almost nothing happens. I was thinking "2 more hours of THIS??" and hour in. The last hour was very good though but I cant say that it redeem the first 2/3s. I ended up with the directors cut Blu-ray so maybe the shorter theatrical version wasnt as bad (I read an article saying the studio made them cut out a lot for theatres)..

Loose Cannon 07-31-2009 01:58 PM

wait, Watchman is 3 hours long? ugh, there's no way I can make it through that.

Fast and Furious: 7/10. I definatelty liked it better then the last 2 pieces of crap they produced. Fun movie

ClockShot 07-31-2009 05:21 PM

Hell of a movie. But shaved half a point cause of an unnecessary plot line.

Low rating....it's a good movie, enjjoyable throughout, acting was very top notch, which is kind of different for a Sandler/Rogan movie, it's just nothing too special. Wait till it's on DVD and rent it...

Jeritron 08-01-2009 02:05 AM

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey - 2/5

I want most of the 90 minutes of my life back. Wasn't all that bad.

thedamndest 08-02-2009 05:39 PM

There is no point in watching Bill and Ted now if you didn't when you were a kid. If you watched it as a kid you would now love it, but unfortunately the window has closed. A lot of movies are like that, actually.

Jeritron 08-02-2009 06:26 PM

It has to do with nostalgia and not quality. I can watch Home Alone 2 any day but its really an awful movie if you strip down the nostalgia.

There are also movies that contain great nostalgia for me, that are actually amazing movies, like Jaws, Back to The Future, Star Wars, and Terminator 2.

ClockShot 08-02-2009 07:08 PM

Yeah. I hold Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure close to my heart. But I saw Bogus Journey at the wal-mart dump bin and picked it up.

SPOILER: show
I expected another junket in time. Instead they die, go to hell and heaven, and save the future. What pissed me off the most is that George Carlin only gets like 5 minutes of screen time.

I don't think there was any need to put the spoiler tag on Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, due to both its age and the fact that it's Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

I shouldnt have had such high expectations for "the best in the series" or whatever it says on the back of the case. A couple good moments but they could have done so much more with it, and the special effects were really weak.

Heh, 1 is still the best.

Triple A 08-07-2009 06:45 AM

Movies I saw since the last time I posted in this thread:

Bruno: 7/10
Fake show pilot part is still stuck in my head.

Young People Fucking: 5/10
Like 5 stories of 5 couples during one "sexual encounter". Good concept, but a bunch of it felt like a show on MTV or something.

Husbands and Wives: 7/10
<3 Woody Allen

You, the Living: 8/10
50 "absurdist" shorts/scenes. Weird ass movie. The entire tone/feel of the movie is great, I don't know. Can't explain this one at all.

Songs from the Second Floor: 8/10
Pretty much same as above. Same filmmaker.

Nothing: 6/10
Two "bros" who hate their miserable lives wish the world away, and it actually happens and they are left in a white void for the last hour of the movie. Mad good concept and the beginning was great but got kinda "dumb" and "lost steam" in the second half.

Spiral: 6/10
Some weird guy who is a painter and starts some relationship with some chick at his job but she doesn't know "how troubled he really is". Was alright.

500 Days of Summer: 8/10
This movie was mad good. Kinda didn't expect to like it nearly as much. Some parts were mad annoying though. But still Highly Enjoyable.

The Hurt Locker: 2/10
Fucking hate this movie so fucking much. Unbelievably overrated piece of shit. Wanted to walk out like 927835 times. Was "so" not into it. Mad boring "trying too hard to be 'suspenseful'" bullshit. Hated all the characters. No discernible plot. Garbage.

I am so proud of you: 10/10
Don Hertzfeldt's new short film. Saw this at some animation festival in Brooklyn. Fucking unbelievable. This is one of the best things I have ever seen. Was perfect in every way possible. Love him so much.

NoRoolz 08-08-2009 04:08 PM

Pulse: 2/10, fucking terrible. Boring and repetitive as shit.

Untraceable: 8/10, really good film. Typical whodunnit in ways and not exactly unique, but definitely worth a watch.

Menace II Society: 7.5/10. Have had it on DVD for years, literally. Just got round to watching it, good film, but it's no Boyz N The Hood.

XL 08-09-2009 04:39 PM

Watchmen - 8/10

Struggling to rate this fairly. My friend implored me to read the graphic novel before watching the film, really shouldn't have. Rather than watching the film and enjoying it/judging it as such I found I was just spotting shots/styling/script from the novel or noticing stuff that had been cut. Gotta say however that I prefer the film ending to the GN ending.

Went with the lady to see it. I've been to enough of these movies that I can for the most part shrug off how stupid the plot is and just try to have a good time, but this movie has zero redeemable qualities about it.
