The Taking of Pelham 123 - 6/10 - I had really low expectations for this, but it was worth the full dollar I paid. Travolta and Denzel made their characters work, but the plot itself is full of holes. I haven't seen the original, but I would guess it probably worked better back then.

Angels and Demons - 6.5/10 - The movie was good, but I knew what was coming because I read the book. They removed a lot of my favorite character's scenes.

Well there were similarities and differences, DrA. More differences than similarities, however, which may be a good thing as it would have been awfull if my proposalwas on the big screen. I just don't have the acting range that Ryan Reynolds has. Also, I have bever been to Alaska.

Mad Max: 7/10

Been wanting to see this and Beyond Thunderdome ever since I caught Road Warrior. I liked Road Warrior a lot better, but this was still cool. A very young Mel Gibson here.

Obsessed: 6/10. It was ok. Nothing really groundbreaking. This stole stuff from Hand that Rocks the Cradle and if you saw that 90's movie, The Crush, you already know the deal. The obsessed woman is smoking though. I don't know what that dude's problem was. must be a closet homo.

PorkSoda 08-11-2009 07:05 PM

Funny People...did anyone think that the last 20 minutes should have happened like in the middle of the movie? It's like the problem happened about 30 minutes too late...

GI Joe: 3/10.
bad acting, bad casting, bad storyline, etc.

PorkSoda 08-12-2009 06:41 PM

Gi. Joe - 7/10.

The action in this movie was awesome. It had everything. Car crashes. Car chases. Guns. Ninjas. Martial arts. Sword fighting. Explosions. A badass chick as a villian. Lots of things getting destroyed. The plot was kind of stupid and I thought the acting was good for what it was, just the dialogue was stupid. I didn't really get why this was a GI Joe movie though....felt like it should have been something else. Also, I didnt like how (sort of a spoiler) they set it up for a sequel.

Oh, and i started watching Evil Dead 2 the other day. It seems good so far.

District 9 - 4.5/5

Like most have said, it dragged in the beginning, but got going soon after and never stopped.

Jeritron 08-17-2009 07:46 PM

Don't understand the dragged in the beginning comments. To me it was engaging and interesting right off the bat.
I thought the weakest part of the movie was the last 20 minutes. Sure, the action was great but the story kind of broke down. What was brilliant became a bit more average, and the final act didn't really knock it out of the park. I guess I was looking for a more rewarding resolution of some kind. The concepts and characters were interesting and original the whole movie, and the last 20 minutes was just a robot shootout with one twist after another being thrown out.
The main character became a bit unlikeable, and a lot of things just didn't come around.

I still think it was a great movie. I just was in love with the first 2/3 of that movie and the end let me down a bit.
I need to see it again before I can even rate it.

Droford 08-19-2009 11:13 PM

Defiance 8/10

An all around good movie, I could nitpick a few points but its not anything too major.

Valkyrie 7/10

Ignoring Tom Cruise's personal life, I think he turned in a really good performance, but it will be overshadowed by all the scientology crap. Was disapointing that after the really good opening scene there wasn't a lot of action but there was a good deal of tension despite knowing roughly how the movie would end up playing since it was based on a true story.

Loose Cannon 08-20-2009 09:40 AM

Last House on the Left: 8.5/10

Loved the movie. The last 30 minutes were tremendous. I never saw or even heard of the original, but when a thread was posted here about the remake I was excited to see it. There was one scene I had to skip and you probably know which one I am talking about. I just can't watch shit like that. Like I said, I hadn't seen the original, but I read about it on Wikipedia and that seemed a lot darker. can anybody that has seen both confirm?

Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. 7/10

I thought this was the worst one out of the three to be honest. Loved the entire series, but this one didn't have as good as a plot. And I thought Tina Turner as the heel was not that good. Road Warrior was my favorite. By the way, WCW took a lot of shit from this movie. It's kind of ridiculous.

Saw IV: 8.5/10

Note to self for future Saw movie watches. Watch the last one like a week or so prior to watching the new one. I watched Saw III like 7 months ago and totally forgot what happened. I love these Saw movies though. I think there the most clever written horror series of all-time. How they tie in the previous movies and tie in all the characters is amazing. I liked Saw IV almost as much as the first one. It tied together a lot of backstory and the ending was great. I liked how III and IV virtually happened at the same time at the end. Which brings me to

Saw V: 6/10. So I took my advice and rented Saw V last night. I kind of had mixed feelings about this one. I pretty much saw the whole "game" coming for the five people that were trapped. I loved Hoffman's reverse pychology at the end to finish off things. I liked how they showed the backstory of how Jigsaw and Hoffman met and how Jigsaw kept saying "learn the human mind" and how to think ahead and everything, which Hoffman did at the end. But I feel this movie could of been done in Saw IV as it really just seemed like total filler.

PorkSoda 08-29-2009 12:33 PM

Really Loose Cannon? I'm not the only one who appreciates the Saw series?

Not only that, but I think you rated them a bit too high, especially Saw V. Saw V was just one big flashback and nothing, and I mean NOTHING, happened in present time except Corbitt being found and the ending. Other than that, it was a huge flashback. But the Saw series is one big movie, and Saw V you probably have to watch with Saw IV, or Saw VI when it comes out. Saw II and Saw III go together perfectly, so yeah....I just think Saw V was pretty horrible, the five people story was just an excuse to put traps in the film...

Daddy Day Care - 2/10. I didn't like this one.....

Jeritron 08-29-2009 01:08 PM

Halloween 2 (the new Rob Zombie one) 3/10

Don't ask me why I saw this. My friend, his brother and me always go see the Halloween, Freddy and Jason movies regardless of how bad they look. It's just kind of something we do. Even when they're awful its still a good time.
This movie was so awful though. It was an even bigger mess than Zombie's first one, which was an abortion in it's own right. I can't believe this guy is a director.
Just nothing interesting, suspenseful, or entertaining about it. Pointless violence and mayhem with no real characters or respectable plot. It's as though the movies are just incidental. They sort of just happen as a result of him making torture porn, tasteless violence, 70s rock references, and putting his wife on screen for no real reason any chance he gets.

SPOILER: show
All 3 points are awarded because it has a Wierd Al Yankovic cameo.

The Code/Thick as Thieves 3/10

Whoever thought of putting Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman together in a heist movie should be forced to sit through this movie for a week straight with their eyes wired open. I might have been able to be more generous with the rating if they had chosen ANYONE besides Banderas for his role because he turns in one of the worst performances Ive seen in a long time (and he gets to romp around with Radha Mitchell to make me even angrier.) Freeman was ok, though you could tell he wasn't investing too much of himself in this one either, but at least it wasn't on the level of dear Antonio. The movie was extremely predictable with only one oddball swerve that I didnt see coming but it wasn't even worth worrying about, and a story thats pretty much like every other heist movie you've seen before minus any real action or even tension.

I caught myself wishing that the movie was less preachy and more sci-fi action when the dude and Johnson were storming the MNU building and they had that one line of 'buddy action comedy' dialogue ("Fuck!"). But I otherwise enjoyed it very much.

Halloween II (2009) - 5/10

There was some good but more not good. The Michael Myers scenes were good. The psychological scenes were not good. I didn't really feel any strong connection to the lead character. Usually you want to see her escape and/or kill the bad guy, but I didn't in this case. I think it was partly because she was annoying and partly because she found out she was Michael Myers' sister she decided to go get drunk at a huge house party on Halloween instead of having a mental collapse since that seemed to be the direction she was heading (but that wouldn't have been as exciting I guess).
