The Expendables 7/10.

ClockShot 08-17-2012 09:04 PM

Brokedown Palace - 3/5

It ain't no Midnight Express. But with the performances is movie, there's a reason Claire Danes is starring on one of the best shows on TV while Kate Beckinsale is stuck doing Underworld movies.

CSL 08-17-2012 09:23 PM

what, fairly sure Claire Danes would swap places with Kate Beckinsale tomorrow given the option

ClockShot 08-17-2012 10:29 PM

Homeland is pretty darn good from what I hear.

CSL 08-17-2012 11:51 PM

it is very good so far (literally watching an episode as I type this) but no actors/actresses set out to go from film star to TV star ala Claire Danes

I dunno, TV doesn't have the shitty reputation it once did.

Anyway, A Dangerous Method - 7/10.

At least two of those marks are for Michael Fassbender and one of them for him whipping Keira Knightley with a belt.

The Destroyer 08-19-2012 06:22 PM

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - 7/10

My enforced Potter marathon continues and I'm shocked to say I'm still actually enjoying it. This was better with the first one and my two major bugbears - crap CGI and wooden child acting - seem to mostly be gone. :y:

Corporate CockSnogger 08-19-2012 06:26 PM

Fargo - 7.5/10
Cinema Paradiso - 7/10
8 1/2 - 2/10
High Noon - 8/10
WALL-E - 9/10

PorkSoda 08-19-2012 08:34 PM

The Last Samurai - 8/10

Nicky Fives 08-19-2012 09:00 PM

Do No Harm (made for TV movie starring Lauren Holly) - 4/10

Skippord 08-19-2012 09:12 PM

The Expendables 2: 6/10

not great, but that part where JCVD kicks a knife into someone's heart is the coolest shit I've ever seen. Like a finishing move

3 is great and is my favorite and is directed by Alfonso Cuarón

CSL 08-20-2012 01:01 AM

I would like to see The Expendables 2 and one of my best friends is gonna go see it tomorrow but he's going with his little sister and I ain't tryin to hook my carriage to that train

Damian Rey 08-21-2012 12:58 PM

ParaNorman: 7/10

Pretty good. Was a little more "pushy" with language and some character action than I was expecting. For instance, theres s character who comes out of the closet. Overall, It was pretty cute.

The Avengers - 7.5/10

Better than your average superhero film but still yr average superhero film ya dig? Although the Hulk twatting Loki/puny God scene was 23/10, maybe the funniest thing I've seen in film this year

The Trotsky - 8/10

It was quite an experience. Discovered it on iTunes.

Cool King 08-21-2012 05:12 PM

The Expendables 2 - 9.5/10

Rammsteinmad 08-24-2012 07:41 AM

Finally got round to seeing Titanic last night! Tried to watch it a few times in the past but always seemed to fall asleep.

Really good film. Probably give it a 7/10, maybe an 8. Good acting, and the characters were easy to get into. The whole sinking part was pretty awesome and sad at the same time, because you know how it's all gonna end.

PorkSoda 08-24-2012 09:03 PM

The Expendables 2 - 7/10. Only a 7? Really?

The Destroyer 08-25-2012 10:56 AM

Aston Kutcher and James Van Der Beek as tough cowboys. Beauty right there.

I refuse to believe that it could be anything but terrible.

The Raid: Redemption - 4.5/5

Crazy good. Fast paced, lots of action, and a whole lotta "holy shit" moments. It's right up there with Game of Death in terms of the Tower Assault concept of movies.

Now I gotta see Dredd to see if it can be just as good. But I ain't getting my hopes up.

The Destroyer 08-25-2012 06:20 PM

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - 7.5/10

Yeah, again, I liked it, much to my surprise.

Marky Mark? You're thinking of the wrong film, he was in the pretty bad remake from like 10 years ago.

This one has got James Franco and John Lithgow and is about 30 times better.

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-29-2012 05:33 PM

What About Bob? - 8/10

I saw it on Sunday, on TV, and like it quite a lot. Bill Murray cracked me up throughout.

Monster brawl 5/10

Corporate CockSnogger 08-30-2012 06:02 PM

How did it manage a 5 for you? One of the worst films I've ever seen, probably rate it no higher than a 1/10 personally.

dronepool 08-30-2012 08:49 PM

Amazing Spider-Man (on stream) 6/10

I thought the "origin" dragged on way too long and it took too long to get to the meaty stuff. Have see it in better quality to decide how much I liked it but it was 'alright'.

Nicky Fives 08-30-2012 08:54 PM

Yogi Bear - 6/10..... for a kids movie, it was quite good......

Tommy Gunn 08-30-2012 09:55 PM

Captain America 2011 - Not bad, a good cast, and good origin story for the first hour, but quickly lost focus when the middle of the film became a clip show of blowing up bases, leading to a rushed ending. Oh well. 7/10

Kevin Nash fighting Kurgan with Dave Foley on commentary pushed it up a few notches, didn't find it that bad for what it was, might have been over generous in fairness.

Tommy Gunn 09-01-2012 10:52 AM

Thor - Loved the ice planet (can't remember any names sadly), but felt Thor and Natalie Portman didn't have an ounce of chemistry, which made their scenes really drag. Other than Thor, I can't remember a single other character name, other than Loki, that's how underdeveloped the supporting cast were, just background scenery, but it's cool, because the story itself was pretty decent. 7.5/10

El Fangel 09-01-2012 03:36 PM

Lawless

Now normally I would give a rating, an arbitrary number that is meaningless. It is difficult to categorize movies into one of ten piles and leave it at that, sometimes you wonder if it deserved more or you wonder if it deserves less.

This movie however, I will watch time and again. I have not enjoyed any movie as much as this one in years. I am serious when I say this is a classic. If we want to have 10 as perfect, then here you have it. 10/10

And that is just for the climax alone.

Requiem 09-01-2012 04:09 PM

Princess Mononoke is phenomenal. 10/10

Just had to add that, seeing the above ratings. Ghibli is one of my favorite movie studios now. Love me some Pixar, but Ghibli is a whole different ballpark.

No wonder Ebert gave it a perfect score.. Sure, he admits this one being Exorcist as the huge influence but still, Sam Raimi as producer always loves to turn demons into much like the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness versions of the female possessed. Yes, the hand that comes out of the mouth is the fucking creepy shit.. Much better than Paranormal Activity stuff.

SPOILER: show
The demon lives inside the antique box. You open it, you fucking die. Not much to see except a few missing rotting teeth, body hair, dead moths and a black jewel ring.

My other fave scene:
SPOILER: show
The demon's face exposed during the X-Ray tests of the main possessed girl.

After the movie, I felt my hands and arms a bit shaky.. Despite the air condition in the theater is weak.. I dunno. I think I'm sensitive scary when it comes to demon possessions. Gets me everytime when I was a kid I guess.. Anyway, I liked it.

9/10.

Is it just me or the sister of the possessed girl looks like Lindsay Lohan in her cleany
teenage days or what?

Training Day - 7.5/10

Feel like it lost a bit of steam towards the end, but still, good stuff.

GD 09-02-2012 11:37 PM

Premium Rush - 7/10

Emperor Smeat 09-03-2012 12:46 AM

Iron Man - 4 out of 5

Has that very slow build in the beginning of the film like every recent super hero film does for a character but great film overall.

Corporate CockSnogger 09-03-2012 07:49 AM

Friends With Benefits - average. Pretty standard romcom with a few good laughs here and there but doesn't really do anything groundbreaking obviously. Justin Timberlake is pretty likeable though and Mila Kunis is fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttt. Richard Jenkins and Woody Harrelson were in it too so it kept my attention.

whiteyford 09-03-2012 08:47 AM

No holds barred. Not sure how to rate it, it was funny as fuck but I don't think that was the intention, 7/10 I guess for the cheesy 80s goodness that it was.

Tommy Gunn 09-06-2012 06:59 AM

Super 8- 8/10

Really enjoyed it, felt like a modern The Monster Squad with splashes of ET and District 9

The Destroyer 09-06-2012 04:33 PM

Remember Me -3/10

Someone at work insisted I watch it. Wish I hadn't. The ending was terrible as well, like a rejected entry from a list of awful twist endings or something.

Nicky Fives 09-06-2012 09:34 PM

American Reunion - 7.5/10..... not quite as good as the old ones, but still an above average movie
The Sum Of All Fears - 5/10..... decent, nothing special, although I never read the Tom Clancy novel the movie was based off of either......

Only good part of this is they put a cam on one of the dinos that looked like a pathetic poor man version of Dilophosaurus in Jurassic Park. Found footage still trending except with dinos. Ridiculous intro of the sequence saying, "The following images have not been manipulated or changed in any way." Sure, unless you put CGI dinos that looked like they belong in a SyFy TV movie and Terra Nova series.

There's a bit of a plot twist to this:
SPOILER: show
one of them named Charlie is a traitor scientist determined to own Dino island or something despite he wanted to get rid the rest of the crew.

Despite the shittiness, I'm still a sucker for dinos.. And the main hero is a fucking Bieber-ish look-alike in his mid-20s.

4/10.

Anyway...

The Prestige: 9/10

I really enjoyed this one, there were plenty of twists and turns in the story and character development; it was really entertaining to see how both of the main characters evolved due to their obsession with being the best magician, regardless of the cost.

My only minor nit with this movie was with David Bowie's performance. Overall it worked fine, but every now and then he slipped ever so slightly into Jareth mode when he was talking.
It's a small thing, but I found it to be just enough to take me out of the moment.

Overall it's a great film, if you haven't seen it I recommend checking it out.

PorkSoda 09-08-2012 10:20 PM

I'm sorry, guys. I'll rewatch some of it in the next 72 hours and see if my views on it have changed. It was boring and while it was funny, I just thought it wasted my time. I actually skipped through some parts to get to the end because I lost interest in it, so I'll definitely have to re-rate it.

And yes, that part up top made me laugh. The whole "bloodiest movie ever" bit was my favorite. Other than that......it did nothing.

I might as well make an attempt to watch it again now.

PorkSoda 09-08-2012 11:06 PM

Okay, I rewatched most of it. I paid attention to it blah blah blah.

I'll give it a generous 4/10.

Something Hollywood should NEVER EEEEVER dare to remake since I read somewhere they're preparing a reboot of this. Fight scenes/machete gangs/drug lord/corrupt cops become the main story. Forget the rescuing brother or the Swat member's wife getting preggie subplots.. There's this one henchman named Mad Dog despite how many times his head gets smashed on the floor/walls, even a knife to the neck, dammit, he's still got lots of canned whooped ass left in him to beat the shit out of the Swat team.. Almost insane on the same level as the fight scenes in Old Boy too... Go see it.

Corporate CockSnogger 09-12-2012 02:41 PM

Started watching The Hunger Games last week some time and then fell asleep and forgot about it until this morning so I finished it off. Very average film, pretty boring for long stretches and didn't really do anything groundbreaking.

Woody Harrelson aside I didn't really care about any of the characters and wanted a bit more background on him more than anything.

whiteyford 09-12-2012 03:02 PM

Having read the books, I think it'll work better as a series of films rather than a stand alone movie, they cut/altered alot of stuff though.

Corporate CockSnogger 09-12-2012 03:07 PM

Well they certainly didn't do enough with the first film to warrent me spending my hard earned download speed on the next film.
