Liar Liar (I watched it in its entirety) - 6.5/10
|
Lawless: 8/10
Tom Hardy is just a bad ass. It would have been a seven of ten, but Tom Hardy slaps Shia Lebouf in one scene. That's always a full point for me. Nick Cave did the soundtrack, and it's AWESOME! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2SJFAPyiC9k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Lockout - 7/10.
Spiderman 3 - 7/10 John Carpenter's Halloween - 6/10, I guess. I could write a long review on WHY I DISLIKED IT MORE THAN I LIKED IT but I'll just save it. For now. Unless Raven Reaper wants to review it with me. |
TIFF Week
The Master - 9/10 Tabu - 9/10 Silver Linings Playbook - 8/10 Beyond the Hills - 8/10 Something in the Air - 7/10 To The Wonder - 7/10 Mekong Hotel - 6/10 Everybody Has A Plan - 5/10 Post Tenebras Lux - ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |
Why did you not like Halloween?
also more importantly why did you like Spiderman 3? |
If Raven Reaper wants to debate Halloween with me, I'll tell you.
Why did I like Spider Man 3? Well, The Sandman was an interesting character. Not only that, the action scenes were well done, it was well acted, visually was great, the script was decent, and I even liked Venom. I heard/read that people complained that they should have held off on Venom, but I enjoyed seeing him. I thought he was a great addition. |
Bronson - 6/10
Weird film, worth it for Tom Hardy though. |
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - 5/10 - didn't care too much for it and only watched it because of Tom Hanks
The Image Of Bruce Li - 8/10 - saw it on TV and watched it, typical kung-fu flick and it was a fairly decent one Rogue - 8/10 - not a huge animal horror flick fan, but I enjoyed this one..... Radha Mitchell is kinda hot.... The Mexican - 4/10 - nothing special Mercury Rising - 8/10 - typical Bruce Willis action movie, not as good as the Die Hard's or Cop Out, but still pretty entertaining...... That's about it for this week..... |
Resident Evil: Whatever it's called out now - 5/10
Boogie Nights - 9/10 |
Raven Reaper, please report for duty.
We need you to watch Halloween. |
The Five-Year Engagement - 8/10
|
Thor 6
Captain America 9 |
The Bourne Legacy - 4/10

Dredd - I rate it great
|
Snow White & The Huntsman 8/10
Thors Scottish accent was tremendous. |
Resident Evil: Retribution 5/10
For this movie you really needed to see the last one to make it worth watching. Just like the others it picked up where the last left off, but this time it's more of a wrapping up lose ends. Really it's the end of last film. Nothing WOWing happened. I liked the fact the music wasn't just over played rock songs. I could have gone without everyone but Alice's lines. Really, if you see this movie do not pay attention to there lines. Horrable. Still It was a RE movie and it fits. Just not as good as the others, but not bad. The Possession 3/10 Skip this movie. Nothing was scary in it. I really can't put this in better words than it was lame. I got tired of the relationship crap. I was left disapointed that the one person I wanted to die...might have not died. He got away in a car and was never seen from again. Maybe he did. IDK. Kyra Sedgwick played her normal flatline role. Jeffrey Dean Morgan couldn't sell his character, the girls we meh. Really I knew it be bad since it was PG-13, but I don't even know if the even a 13 year old would find anything really scary. |
Lawless 7/10
The redhead is rather good looking. |
Rollertown 0/10
Won tickets to premiere in radio contest and walked out after 20 teeth grinding minutes. |
Dredd - 2.5/5
It was alright. I'll let you guys make your own opinions about this version and Stallone's. |
Double Jeopardy - What is a 6/10?
Sanctum - 7/10. Hated it at first. Thought it was terrible, but redeemed itself toward the end. |
Avengers - 9/10. Loved it.
Burn After Reading - 7.5/10. Another good one from the Coen brothers. |
Salt - 4 out of 5

Japon - 7/10, good cinematography
Beasts of Southern Wild - 8/10 |
Judge Dredd in 3-D.. Now I fully understand this unpopular comic franchise appeal... I think I like to live in a world ruled by judge/cop hybrid type of vigilantes. On the same bad-assery level as Robocop and Punisher. Lena Headey as Ma-Ma the druggie queen bitch herself was the true scene stealer.. Yes, lots of people say this was like The Raid Redemption minus the kung fu kick-ass fighting skills. Lots of gun blazing. And I think I wanna try that SLO-MO DRUG that makes you feel like in the Matrix bullet time mode... I wish they could've used that as a weapon to dodging bullets instead of just relaxing and admiring the slow motion effects of the objects around themselves. It was also spectacular seeing the slow motion effect drug when one of the crooks fall 200 feet from the building splatting blood on the pavement. Intense stuff. 10/10. I AM THE LAW!!!
And yes, the subplot of having a psychic rookie blondie judge cop alongside Dredd reminded me of Robocop's sidekick as well. Hehe... Also, this one blows Stallone's version out of the fucking water... And the portrayal of Mega City as he calls it like a huuuge wasteland desert filled with blown buildings and more dirty streets filled with thugs is almost on par with Nolan's dark realistic version of Gotham in Dark Knight Rises.\ My fave scene: Ms. Anderson the rookie reading the black guy's mind of having sexual rape and getting naked in front of him saying, "Welcome to your fucked up head!" And the other one: SPOILER: show Fucking intense was the low ammo while huuuge ass guns blazing just to take out 2 judges. 10/10. I AM THE LAW!!! |
sexual rape
|
considering making that my user title
|
It'd be a fine choice.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - 7/10. Not quite as good as the previous one, but still not bad. Killer Elite - 6/10. Not the best Jason Statham film I've seen, but it was alright. |
Harry Brown : 10/10
Fucking AMAZING movie |
MI: Ghost Protical. 7.5/10- The gadgets in this movie were the some of the best yet and the action scens were fucking awesome. Many times I found myself jumping or shouting at the action. But it seemed like it was lacking something. Not sure what though. Great story, great camera work, great acting.
|
Dark Shadows 2/10 Watched a decent amount of episodes of the Dark Shadows series, but the movie didn't sit well for me. Not sure if the bias opinion I had going in helped or hurt the movie, probably helped. Awful film I thought.
Monster Brawl 4/10 Fun little movie to watch with friends I guess. Has a bunch of monsters in a wrestling tournament, Kevin Nash and Jimmy Hart is in it. Good flick to watch with some wrestling friends and get drunk too. Nothing great about it though. |
Snow White and the Huntsman-6/10
Just a really mediocre movie that could have so good but wasn't. I didn't give two shitsabout any of the characters, including Snow White. Kristen Stewart had zero character to work with, which is sad. It's like they told her to just stare worth her eyes half closed and her mouth agape the whole time. The Queen was the most interesting character, but her lines at the beginning of the film and a brief flashback to her origin don't match up. Everything just seemed to be thrown together and glossed over and made for a very underwhelming feeling. |
Killing Them Softly - 4/10
Just boring. The pacing was sluggish, most of the characters were incredibly forgettable, little to nothing actually happens and the movie feels like a series of pointless conversations. I understand that it was supposed to be a symbolic analogy of government/politics/the financial crisis, but there was no real pay-off. |
21 jump street it was pretty good. Too bad it was only rented because I would definitely watch it again if I owned the movie but don't feel like actually buying it
|
21jump street - 8 out of 10
American Reunion - 5 out of 10 |
Dredd (3D) - 9/10
|
Avengers (on bluray)
Second proper viewing (first was streaming) gets an 8.5 out of 10. Entertaining. Better than ASM, but not TDR. But definitely Marvel's best so far, besides Iron Man 1. |
Better than what?
|
Amazing Spider-Man?
|
Oh.
|
Road To Perdition - 9.5/10 - I wouldn't have believed it when you told me that Tom Hanks could pull of playing a gangster, but he did and I really enjoyed the movie.....

Forrest Gump - 7/10
Looper - 9.5/10 |
I have to agree with Guru Dave's rating of Looper. That is what I would give it also. Such a great thought provoking movie.
|
Looper-9/10
|
Get Smart - 4 out of 5

Men in Black 3 - Fairly fun film, better than the 2nd one. Josh Brolin was very good and Will Smith always makes me laugh no matter what he's in. They were a bit lazy with some of the time travel stuff and so there was quite a few plotholes but still pretty enjoyable for what it was.
|
Did Will Smith make you laugh in Seven Pounds? Huh!? Well!?
|
He probably did at least once.
|
Actually, me and a friend of mine have an inside joke involving the film so I guess even indirectly he has, if not actually in the film. <3 Will Smith.
|
Bronson - 8/10
Tom Hardy was bad ass in this. |

Pretty certain she was cast because the director had a boner for her for some reason. |
Pretty certain she was cast because she is a pretty big/the biggest Hollywood star for the key demographic of movie goers that the film was looking for due to her starring role in the Twilight saga.

It's the image of LDP in a chefs hat that swayed you isn't it? I also want to see my version now.
|
it was the image of LDP in a chefs hat hugging his grandfather who's grudging respect he won by saving the farm through the majesty of a pie baking contest.
|
do you want to write a screenplay together?
|
I picture the grandfather as Edward James Olmos.
|
Or Danny Trejo
|
Edward James Olmos is perfect
|
Quote:
You suck at casting. |
She falls in love with LDP throughout the movie and they win the baking contest together, his cut to save the farm, hers to follow her dream, leave her abusing, cheating husband and open up a zoo-themed bakery.
|
The 5 Year Engagement - 5/10
Parts were funny but the majority of the film were slit your wrist depressing. |
I'm sorry that a mature person like myself dislikes an immature film such as Bad Santa.
|

Was sinsanely a typo? Either way, it's really cool.
Hey CSL, you want to meet for a cheeseburger sometime? |
Bad Santa wasn't that funny.
|
Looper - 8/10
Come and See - Brutal war movie... or anti-war movie for that matter, disturbing and depressing but beautifully filmed 9/10 |

Insidious 2.0 meets The Ring (except it's in a movie projector super 8 snuff film equipment), and Children of the Corn. Intense cut scenes of the 1st person view in a killer's perspective from a happy family enjoying their picnics then it quickly cuts to the gruesome parts of burning, mutilation, lawn mowing the bodies, and hanging of the family members.. Perfect Halloween boo moments this month... 9/10. Why did I say Children of the Corn? Well, see for yourself... |
Got a bit of catching up to do:
