Project X: 4/10.

Raven Reaper 01-22-2013 08:31 PM

The Last Stand: Standard Schwarzenegger bad-assery movie.. Felt like watching a Police western and a bit of Death Proof chase scenes. From the director of Tale of 2 Sisters and I Saw the Devil..

8/10.

Triple Naitch 01-22-2013 08:53 PM

What the fuck with this movie

This is the 2013 Van Helsing style movie of the year. It felt like Sam Raimi produced this movie cos the witches behaved and looked like the ones in Army of Darkness yelling, "I'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOOOUULL!!" It had funny moments like Hansel mentioning this sickness which is diabetic I think cos he talked about getting sick when he ate too much candy and had to take injections when he's feeling weak... Campy, blood splatting gore fun... Oh and there's a giant troll helping them and his name's Edward. Poking fun at Twilight I suppose.. Fun flick I'll say. Oh, and there's a brief nude scene and a full view of the good witch's ass in the lake.

Best part: The scene where the witch flies very fast deep in the forest while the hunter lying in wait with a shotgun reminded me of Star Wars Return of the Jedi chase sequences where Luke ambushes the trooper biker with a saber. Yeah it felt like that too.

And the director is the same guy that made the campy romp Nazi zombie flick, "DEAD SNOW."

9/10. Famke Janssen aka Jean Grey/Phoenix from X-Men makes a scary intimidating witch bitch.

Skippord 01-24-2013 08:06 AM

you are my favorite, Raven Reaper

dronepool 01-24-2013 10:35 PM

Dredd- 8.0

Total Recall (2012) - 6.8
(I liked the design of Total Recall's robot cops a lot)

Ted- 6.9
(Nothing really new, but something decent enough to pass time if you have beer or pot)

whiteyford 01-25-2013 09:01 AM

Dark horse 6/10

Not sure what I was expecting but just kinda meh and depressing.

El Vaquero de Infierno 01-25-2013 11:14 AM

Django Unchained - 7.5/10

I liked it; Di Caprio, Jackson, and Waltz were fantastic. I did feel it start to drag though after awhile.

Droford 01-25-2013 03:01 PM

I'm seeing a lot of reviews calling movie 43 one of the worst movies of all time. Someone should send them a copy of human centipede 2

wwe2222 01-27-2013 04:05 PM

I thought it was funny. It's basically just a bunch of shorts. Some are dumb but certainly not worst movie ever.

whiteyford 01-28-2013 07:25 PM

Boogie nights 8/10

Never got around to watching it before, should be 7/10 but bumped it for Heather Grahams muff.

The Matrix - 10/10

XL 01-31-2013 04:11 AM

whiteyford 01-31-2013 05:53 AM

Scream 4 7.5/10

Better than I expected from a 4th movie.

The Condor 01-31-2013 11:47 AM

Silver Linings Playbook: 7.5/10--- good movie, enjoyed most of it but I think I'm beginning to tire of the "dysfunctional family, we're all insane" types of movies at this point. Throughout I kept thinking about how Bradley Cooper is about 15-16 years older than Jennifer Lawrence.

Nicky Fives 01-31-2013 01:45 PM

Take This Waltz - 4/10

Nothing spectaculer..... Sarah Silverman naked is a treat, but that's about it.....

mitch_h 01-31-2013 08:11 PM

The Comedy - Really good movie. Tim Heidecker plays an aging hipster (I guess) who is completely detached, and everything he says is ironic. Pretty much just covers him acting like a dickhead, his empty friendships (one friend is played by Eric) and him not dealing with his father's impending death. Funny and depressing and Tim was awesome. 8/10

dronepool 02-01-2013 04:46 AM

Silver Linings Playbook - really good. First time I've seen Jennifer Lawrence in something other than hunger games so it was good to see she's not as terrible as she was in that.

whiteyford 02-04-2013 08:33 AM

This means War 5/10

The only funny stuff was in the trailer.

The Condor 02-04-2013 11:53 AM

Stand Up Guys--- Arkin, as usual, steals the show when he is in it, Walken is fantastic but I can't help but feel that Pacino is actually as spacey in real life as his character. A lot of age humor but it works well and I enjoyed the movie thoroughly. 7.3/10

dronepool 02-04-2013 12:58 PM

Stand Up Guys- 7.0

Agreed with CE. It was a fun, enjoyable movie. I loved Walken's character.

Fignuts 02-09-2013 12:04 AM

Paranormal Activity 4- 2/10

Really boring. Knew going in that it was going to be more of the same, but wow they didn't even try here. The previous one addaed new ways of scaring you, but the only thing new here is product placement.

Putting cameras everywhere doesn't seem as believable as it did in the other films. The other movies do a good job of building tension, and this one really doesn't. I never once felt on edge while watching this.

Finally the plot. They don't further the overall plot of the series at all here. From a story perspective they might as well have not even bothered.

No - Cool movie about the opposition to Augusto Pinochet using advertising techniques to block his referendum and bring him down. I love that it was shot on old U-Matic cameras. Good performance by Gael Garcia Bernal as well. 8/10

Whatever the lowest price for a ticket is any given day, plus a small soda, small popcorn. Hope to keep it under $10 but that's probably not realistic in today's day and age...might be more like $12 or something, but not gonna be one of those dicks who just sneaks in snacks and drink "because it’s cheaper at the store”. That logic has always baffled me. There’s a reason that theaters don’t permit you to do it (money) but it's also a good way to get permabanned from the theater and possibly prosecuted.

A Good Day to Die Hard: 2/10. Awful and ridiculous.

In other words, I'm sure Damninator will enjoy it.

The Condor 02-18-2013 12:35 PM

Dark Knight Rises--- a little late, but... Didn't really care for it. 6/10. Bane was an ok villain but nothing special, and the whole thing was just blah to me. Still better than Batman Begins, though.

Heisenberg 02-18-2013 12:55 PM

I loved Dark Knight Rises, had me hooked the whole time.

Spoiler tag for at the beginning that was a little simple reason I enjoyed it from the start. Doesn't reveal plot, just a special guest appearance for fans of Game of Thrones.

SPOILER: show
Petyr Baelish, a.k.a. Littlefinger from Game of Thrones in the first scene made me mark out in the theater, big Game of Thrones fan.

Dunno what to make of the ending:
SPOILER: show
They showed a montage video of various places where the 2 girls killed guys in each specific ones from the forest, to the apartment, and the garage warehouse with no blood. Yet, in the ending, after the heroine finds out that killing her boyfriend was wrong, she kills her then at the bar, she asks the same question to the girl crying at the backdoor of the bar.. Same thing happened to the heroine at the start of the movie.. High Tension-style deja vu twist anyone?

Anywhoo it's like A Spit On your Grave duo chick flick.

Silent Hill: Revelation

2/10

Awful...I'm a fan of the games (the first 4 anyway), and despite my expectations was kinda looking forward to seeing it as I assumed it would be based on Silent Hill 3 (my favorite game in the series), but I started falling asleep during this movie.

That said, it's not based on Silent Hill 3 beyond Heather being the main protagonist.

Nothing in this movie matters; no character development, the story never evolves beyond a vague premise, its tenuous tie to the first movie is explained away with a MacGuffin that makes no sense at all, the villain has all of 5 minutes of screen time - with anything you might need to know about her being told through exposition rather than action, and the movie culminates in a laughable final fight that makes no sense within the context of the story.
It exists for no reason other than shallow fan-service, but even then it fails because it's just so lazy and clumsily executed.

The visual effects were also embarrassingly bad, and there were far too many unnecessary '3D' camera shots with stuff being pointed right at you.

Just meandering, pointless, baseless, boring garbage...but it at least met my expectations.

Corporate CockSnogger 02-28-2013 09:25 AM

Paradise: Love - Depressing movie about mutual exploitation where an obese middle age Austrian woman goes to Kenya and is introduced to sex tourism by some of the other guests. She feels unwanted and useless and tries to find true love while the impoverished "beach boys" are just looking for money. Thought it was interesting... lots of uncomfortable scenes too. 8/10

The Orphanage-10/10
Excellent foreign horror film. Not much gore, some creepy, great tension built up throughout the movie with an awesome but incredibly depressing ending.

Pan's Labyrinth-10/10
Loved this as well. Loved that it was telling two completely different styles of stories at the same time. Great performances all over. But like The Orphanage, a great but really depressing ending.

Pretty sure there's a third one in that 'trilogy', fucked if I can remember what it is though.

The Destroyer 03-10-2013 07:44 AM

Not really a trilogy, but the only other film I can think of is possibly The Devil's Backbone which is another Del Toro film with a Spanish setting.

Although he didn't direct The Orphange.

Mulholland Drive - 4/10.

Someone fancy explaining to me what the fuck it was actually about?

Oz: The Great And Powerful: 4/10

What?

Seriously, I wanted to punch Franco in the dick for most of the movie. Not because he was a scumbag for most of it, but because he hammed it up so much most folks wouldn't call him kosher. And it only worked at one point in the whole movie.

Finley looked shit. And my other big complaint. As Ugly as the Wicked Witch of the West is supposed to be, well. Which do you consider more hideous:

http://www.cinemista.com.br/wp-conte...gico-de-oz.jpg

or

On the plus side, 90% of the CGI looked great. The Land of Oz looked incredible. China Doll was incredibly well crafted. The story was serviceable. But the characters were kind of meh for the most part, excepting China Doll and Evanoria (sp?).

XL 03-10-2013 03:27 PM

Trying to think back through what I've watched and not reviewed.

Oz: The Great & Powerful 4/10 (GF score 6/10)
Thought it was pretty boring for the most part, took forever to get going. Visuls were great though.

Dredd 6/10 (GF score 2/10)
Action film with little to no character/story development. Some great visuals and I imagine it would have looked great in 3D.

The Amazing Spider-Man 7/10 (GF score 7/10)

Corporate CockSnogger 03-10-2013 06:12 PM

Arsenic and Old Lace - really good, light hearted film, seems way ahead if its time with its self parody. The entire time Cary Grant was tied up he was hilarious.
