Man Of Steel - 5.5 / 10

Fox 06-22-2013 07:40 PM

Rounders - 8/10

Pretty much awesome. My poker buddy told me about this movie and I seriously can't believe I'd never seen it before.

Casino - 6/10

A great movie, but there was just something about it that I didn't really take to. Maybe it was the constant soundtrack that I found a bit distracting, or I guess it was Scorcese's follow-up to Goodfellas and I felt that it was trying too hard to be like Goodfellas and failed in that respect.

The Basketball Diaries - 7/10

Really great to see DiCaprio at such a young age. The story is pretty basic and goes to some extremely dark places - the only thing that carries the movie to the end is DiCaprio's painful and powerful performance. You can really see the greatness that's within him in this early work.

A Perfect Getaway - 5/10

Meh. I liked the plot twist in the third act and I don't know if I've ever seen it done quite like that before, but the problem was that the couple who "turned face" hadn't really been established with any kind of real likeable traits prior to the double turn. Meanwhile, Steve Zahn and Jovokovich were pretty likeable up until the turn, and then are just made to look like total psychos. So you finish the movie not really giving a shit about anyone and not caring who lives or dies.

Didn't see this when it came out, but saw it the other night and really enjoyed it. Decent comedy and the action is over-the-top in the Nic Cage mold. Just a fun movie.

9/10.

The ending almost pulled an Inception-ish/High Tension vibe to it.. I refuse to spoil it but like I said, it's been years since De Palma make movies that's completely throwback to 70s trademark cinema like the split screen scenes and has that gallows humor sexual thrill vibe to it. He has done it again.

The plotline: Mean Girl Regina graduates from college to become a businesswoman and she's still has that mean streak in her high school playing pranks on anyone esp. manipulating what she wants when it comes to project stuff from her workers and she pushes the envelope there by fucking a guy's dick then came along the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Lisbeth Salander.. Watch the hair and sparks fly for the final act..

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xaSVR4pCKT4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Expect some lesbian kissings between Mean Girl Regina and Lisbeth Salander. Mmmhmmm.

Some of it was funny..most of it was forced..lots of talent in small roles though.

Damian Rey 06-27-2013 08:33 PM

This is the End-8/10

Outside of one scene of banter between Franco and McBride that had me falling out of my seat, the movie wasn't overly hilarious, but it was consistently funny.

The Condor 06-28-2013 11:24 AM

Mr. Baseball- 6.9/10

Had never heard of this movie and the fact that it was late 80's starring Tom Selleck I kind of figured why. However, it was pretty funny with a fairly original concept. He's a washed up ball player and gets traded to a Japanese team. Cultural differences ensue. Pretty solid comedy for the era, though.

El Vaquero de Infierno 06-28-2013 12:30 PM

I enjoyed it alot more than Man of Steel.

GD 06-29-2013 08:20 AM

Damian Rey 06-30-2013 08:31 PM

The Heat-6/10

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Really feel like they exploit Melissa McCarthy being a fat fucking slob as the main source of her comedic value, which is kind of sad. I know this isn't the first film she's done where this happens.

Her character in completely unlikeable in this movie, so when they try to give her some more personal scenes, they kind of fell flat. Sandra Bullock does what she does so well. She was good, and her character was much easier to enjoy and get behind.

Heisenberg 06-30-2013 08:41 PM

Wasn't expecting much, and I heard that the Trailer Park Boys made a cameo appearance. Great flick that made me produce testosterone at factory levels.

Raven Reaper 07-03-2013 05:41 AM

Evil Dead remake through piratebay. Thank goodness, I didn't pay to see this in theaters. Still unmatched from the Raimi 80s stuff.. Sure it had gore but it was a little bit CGI-ish with the splatting blood. Mia the wannabe one armed chainsaw heroine isn't fit to shine Ash's boomstick but she reminds me of Firefly's River Tam. Wish all the characters died though.

Although the cameo of Ash himself was the only saving grace of this movie... If I see a reboot sequel with Ash as the main protagonist instead of annoying teens, I might see it.

I saw Barbara Steele in some black/white B-horror movie Nightmare Castle and unless someone here is familiar with her black and white horror movies, she's one creepy-ass nanny/mommy from hell that'll make Disney villains like Cruella Deville and the evil stepmom from Cinderella paled in comparison... And no, it's not even a fucking ghost story.. Think of it as well, Misery/The Hand that Rocks the Cradle with a little bit of psychosis from Carrie's mother... Minus the religious bible in hand.. And it lives up to the title literally. The nanny mommy from hell has a butterfly fetish collection that seems innocent and beautiful but evil lurks somewhere in those sweet old lady eyes.

It's sad that they could have put a mask on a block of wood in the place of Armie Hammer, and I probably wouldn't have noticed. Johnny Depp carries another schlub to a mildly entertaining flick.

Mildly entertaining is probably the most favorable review this move has received so far.

Would have been better if Kalyx didnt like it

Damian Rey 07-09-2013 07:02 PM

World War Z-7/10

Felt kind of fluff on the story aspect of it, other than the general "zombies are taking over" theme. Liked the ending, and the monologue at the end as well, but feel like there was more to tell that got glossed over. I'm told there was more political undertone to the novel, and it would've been neat to see that develop on screen, but still enjoyable despite being pretty tame, gore wise.

Skippord 07-09-2013 07:15 PM

World War Z would be pretty impossible to develop into a movie as it is in the book

although I haven't seen the movie yet so I don't know how much they took from it

Shame it pretty much flopped at the US box office, killing its chances of there being a second one. Good film.

Damian Rey 07-13-2013 08:01 PM

Superman Returns-7/10
I hadn't seen this since the day it hit theaters, and I initially hated it and found it boring. DVR'd on FX, and have to admit, much better than I remember, and, IMO, better than the recent Superman offering.

Loved Brandon Routhe as Superman. Has the charm, the looks, and he's very likeable. The whole son angle was a real drag, and completely unneeded, and it would have probably been more interesting if Metropolis rejected Superman when he first comes back, as a response to Lois Lane's article, just to give the "save the day" ending, and the people of Metropolis trying to save him, a bit more umph.

But overall, even though it feels like an extension of the first two films, rather than a strong sequel bringing something new, it's still good fun.

I didn't go to watch it in the cinema since I saw Argo or something. I got the Blu-Ray set which included the 3D version, 2D version and an iTunes HD copy. It's probably one of the coolest movies that I have seen this year.

Mafia!- 7.34/10 (1998)

Starring Jay Mohr, Lloyd Bridges, Christina Applegate, Billy Burke

Saw this movie as a kid but didn't "get it" or remember it and then it came on some random channel last night. At only 85 minutes it is a fast paced, Airplane-styled sendup of the Godfather Parts I & II. Lots of sight gags and very funny send ups of various Godfather scenes as well as a bevy of ethnic Italian jokes. I recommend it only if you've seen the two Godfather movies.

Olivia Wilde is marrying Jason Sudekis. So, it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

Bronson - 10/10 - WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!!!!

I saw it a while back, and I may have done a thing on it here... probably not. Dunno.

But if you haven't seen this, or even heard of it, then do yourself a favor and watch one of the greatest performances by an actor in the past decade. Tom Hardy (yes, THAT Tom Hardy) gave perhaps the best performance of his life in this movie. I seriously don't think he will ever be able to top this.

The movie itself is fantastic - a movie about Britain's most violent prisoner, Charlie Bronson. But the way Tom Hardy personifies him, and the way we're given little slices of insight into his character and mind, are brilliant.

It's very much in the veins of Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange", but it stands apart in its own magnificently twisted way.

mitch_h 07-23-2013 12:33 AM

Un Chant d'amour - Pretty good gay film from 1950. Two gay guys are in different jail cells and they (SPOILER) share cigarette smoke through a small hole and then beat their dicks. There is also a sexually repressed prison guard. Maybe the only movie I've seen made before 1960 that featured real live cocks.
