WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart was recently interviewed by Notts TV News

On concerns regarding WWE's future in the hands of Triple H, who he claims cares more about bodybuilding than pro wrestling:

"I'm always happy to be proven wrong, but I've never seen any real genius come from Triple H yet. I sound like I'm always knocking him, but it seems like he's quick to push the great wrestling to the side and push the bodies, guys who have [good] physiques, all the time. They wonder why CM Punk quit and they wonder why Daniel Bryan got hurt. It's because they squeeze so much out of those guys." Hart said, "I'm just calling it the way it is. Triple H is a former bodybuilder. He's all about bodies. He thought that Hulk Hogan was the greatest wrestler in the world. They think Ultimate Warrior was the greatest wrestler inthe world because that's what they're attracted to, but he's not really a wrestling fan like I grew up. I was a wrestling fan. I had wrestling in my blood. All the way through, I was a wrestling fan. I loved great wrestling. Like this year's WrestleMania, there was no great wrestling on the card. All the great wrestling was two days before in the NXT [TakeOver: Dallas] show with [Shinsuke] Nakamura and Sami Zayn and [Asuka], whatever her name is, the Japanese girl, that wrestled Bayley. That's what WrestleMania is all about. This year at WrestleMania, I thought it was absent on the bill. There was no wrestling on the card."
I've had just about all I can stomach of Bret Hart's opinions on modern wrestling.

Sinclair recently bought the Tennis Channel so if they were to acquire TNA they could rebrand it and the channel and have both on there. Don't see them staying on Pop if Sinclair was to buy them.

I agree with him that NXT took a steaming dump on WrestleMania this year, yes. But his comments about Triple H "being all about the bodies" and only caring about that because he's a former bodybuilder. Where is the basis for that? Is he confusing Triple H with Vince?

Last time I checked NXT was Triple H's baby and the current champion is a man with a cracking set of moobs. Never mind Kevin Owens who is about as far apart from being a bodybuilder as you can be being pushed to the moon the second he got in NXT. And I don't think for a second that Owens would be called up and immediately placed into a feud with the biggest star of the company without Triple H giving his endorsement to Vince.

Basically just seems like Bret taking potshots at Triple H because he's butthurt as always.

About the only "Triple H is a body guy" thing that you could point to is Chris Hero. And quite honestly, he looked like total shit. At least people like Owens and Joe are big guys in general. Hero looked like he hadn't seen the inside of a gym since 2002. And beyond that it sounds like he was fired less because he looked like shit and more because he showed no desire at all to change his appearance when asked.

I'm sure they would rebrand the channel. Comet is pretty easy to get in the US. Didn't think I got Comet either but all I needed was an antenna for the TV, just watch them on syndication on the Fox affiliate on the weekends though.

Triple H's favorite wrestler is Ric Flair also. Not sure where he got Hogan or Warrior. NXT is Triple Hs fourth child. Bret should not be interviewed about wrestling unless they fact check the crap he says and refuse to print if it's completely bs.

Dislike Bret ever since I found out how much of a huge mark he is for himself.

And beyond that it sounds like he was fired less because he looked like shit and more because he showed no desire at all to change his appearance when asked.
I think he's off base about HHH, who seems to be a big work rate mark. But maybe Bret has some insight we don't know about since all we have to go off of is the dirt sheets. It wouldn't be shocking to hear that while HHH is a big work rate fan and loves Japan, he may also share Vince's opinion that the top guys need to be jacked and the upper/lower mid card could be your work horses.

However, Bret has plenty of reason to dislike HHH. Something tells me that while Shawn and Vince seemingly went out of their way to finally bury the hatchet with Bret, HHH did no such thing (this is just a theory I have) and thus Bret being a bit of a surly and emotional guy likes to lump all of the blame onto H and goes very easy on Vince.

But if you're able to read between the lines Bret often makes good points. I remember him being pretty hard on the road agents saying they're pretty much all lower card guys and they don't have any road agents who made it to the top. At first I thought he was being a touch harsh and while the likes of Malenko, Rotundo, Road Dogg etc certainly have a place as Road Agents it does puzzle me why you wouldn't be consulting with the likes of Bret and Austin even on a freelance type basis, guys who understand the main event style.

So I don't know, I find it funny that it's so popular on here to bitch about Bret Hart being surly yet we love JBL who sexually assaulted half of the roster as a hazing exercise. I've heard that Bret is great to his fans and while he has a bit of an ego I find his honesty about how he feels refreshing, whether he is right or wrong.

Seriously though. You can have the superhero-looking guys AND the wrestlers co-exist. It's not like there's gotta be one or the other. But the superhero types are always gonna get preference when it comes to the main eventers that you promote to the mainstream. It's just the way it is. It's not one or the other. It's just that everyone has their purpose. You can build up stories for a guy like Cesaro and have them culminate in 5 star matches in the upper-midcard scene and no one is gonna bat an eyelash. You need someone else to throw out there to the mainstream and represent your company as the feature attraction though.

I don't think Triple H is ANTI-rasslers. NXT proves that. I just think he knows where guys should be on the card. Whether the shit writing makes everyone crave change or not.

I agree with you to a degree here, but what exactly do you mean by "superhero look?" I'm gonna assume based on what you said that you're equating Hulk Hogan to a superhero here, but if you actually look at what the mainstream superhero looks like today Hogan doesn't fit the bill at all. Hell, that kind of massive muscle hasn't been considered "cool" in the mainstream in well over 2 decades. Look at the Marvel movies, or even the new Superman. They're not massive guys. They've got muscle, yeah, but they're not anywhere near the "spectacle" that a Hogan or Warrior is. There's a reason guys like Jason Statham, Daniel Craig, etc have replaced the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

What's more looking like a so-called "superhero" hasn't even been proven to be a draw in wrestling since Hogan's era. Both Stone Cold and the Rock were far smaller than he was at their peaks. Neither had the physique of a monster yet both were every bit as big (if not bigger) stars than Hogan.

I'm not saying that guys with beer guts and flabby arms will draw here by the way. What I'm saying is that you don't need to be a massive ball of muscle to draw anymore, and in fact looking that way actually hurts your drawing potential. Even Roman Reigns doesn't have that sort of physique. The only three that exist with that sort of look today that actually draw money are Triple H, the Rock, and Brock Lesnar, and their drawing power comes from their name value not their looks. Cena could arguably be put in this category too I guess, but honestly after seeing him next to a lot of these guys I've noticed that he's really not as big as he used to be. The dude is defined as hell, but his muscles are a bit leaner than say the Rock's.

As for their faces, well, that really doesn't matter at all. Like I pointed out before you can just look at the current crop of action movie stars to see that "looking pretty" isn't an issue to the public (at least when it comes to men.) Hell, Hogan and company weren't exactly lookers themselves. Outside the Rock and Cena none of the big names in wrestling have been particularly "movie star" in appearance.

Probably the same reason with wrestler trainers and sports in general with the lack of big name stars carrying over into other areas after their regular careers are over. Money is probably the biggest reason which is something big stars don't really need to worry about unless your a Ric Flair type.

Some like Goldberg and Stone Cold are happy being retired and don't see the motivation to continue while others like Hogan and Lesnar likely only consider it if it results in more big paychecks. Then you have others like The Rock who want to go in a completely new direction after their wrestling career.

I considered that for sure, and some great athletes don't make great coaches but that's why I said even at a freelance consultant basis. And I think with wrestling when it comes to laying out a match, if you were a great wrestler it would translate into helping to guys really put it all together.

I personally believe it's easier (and this goes for any company) to have guys that are going to toe the line. If your head booking team was Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin, one would have to imagine it would be one hell of a clash of egos. But, I don't think it would hurt Vince to call Bret and ask him his take on a really intriguing IC title feud. Yeah, Bret's a bit out of touch, but surely you could take some of his ideas and mould them into a more modern form. Just makes sense to me.

I see what you mean by "larger than life," but I don't think "larger than life" is exclusive to look. In my honest opinion charisma and character are waaay more important than anything else when it comes to a business like pro-wrestling. A great example of what I'm talking about really is HBK. No one will argue that he deserved to be in the main event (no one who is sane anyway,) but he wasn't anything like the prototypical main eventer. He did however have a larger than life personality. I agree that a main event wrestler has to be larger than life, but I don't think that being larger than life is exclusive to look, and I think lack of a massive physique can be overcome fairly easily.

Getting some ideas once in a while sounds like a great way to use past big stars but also run into the potential problem of Vince and his notorious habit of constantly changing plans.

Bret could suggest some really great ideas to fix the US and IC belts or make those feuds better but could be all for not if Vince suddenly decides he wants to go in a completely different direction making those ideas useless.

At least in podcast form, people like Stone Cold and JR have been giving out plenty of ideas and advice on ways the WWE could improve things, especially with Reigns, but doesn't seem like the WWE is listening.
