Just noticed it actually says "La Sombra" at a point in the Andrade Almas theme.

Wasn't sure about AJPW after watching their last event. Nothing on the card really hooked me in.
But just watched the first match of the Champion's Carnival, which is their version of the G-1 Climax, and they knocked it out the park. Shuji Ishikawa vs Yuji Hino. I had seen Ishikawa a couple times before, but this is the first time I'm seeing Hino. Very impressed. Just two brick shithouses beating the ever living hell out of one another. If the rest of the matches are this good, I'll be reupping the subscription. |

Next match is Dylan James vs Jun Akiyama, though.
Akiyama is old, and James did absolutely nothing for me at the last event. |

Weird thing about AJPW.tv is that they cut the audio during the entrances, I'm assuming for licensing reasons, but then they play entrance music post match.

Short but good. Shouldn't of underestimated Akiyama. He's still got it. Good little sprint that showcased Dylan's strengths and hid his weaknesses.

Shingo Takagi of Dragon Gate vs Kento Miyahara was really good.
Main event is Suwama vs Zeus. Suwama is the former AJPW ace before Kento came along. Only seen a few matches but I don't remember being that impressed. Zeus is a former bodybuilder and tag partner to Bodyguard, another jacked up tight. Dunno how good he is. Champ Carnival is 3 for 3 so far. NO PRESSURE |

Pretty good match. Good story, with Suwama attacking Zeus's taped up leg, and a really hard hitting end stretch.
First night of Champions Carnival was a lot better overall than Dream Power event. Has me intrigued. |

How about Rey Mysterio this year? I've always thought of him in the same vein as Andre The Giant. He's a phenomenal attraction and recently has had a career resurgence to the point he's comparable to his work in the 90's. In this calendar years he will have worked for WWE, AAA, NJPW, Aero Lucha among other major indie's all over the world. I think that is pretty dope.

I think Rey will sign with the WWE. And that will be good for the matches. There is lots of fresh stuff for him and a reduced schedule will do him wonders. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing him work with AJ Styles.

I'm not sure how he'd fit the company given their current roster and all that, but at some point it'd be interesting to see Tetsuya Naito jump to All Japan. Not necessarily because of heat with New Japan or anything, but just because you can only exist in a spot for so long before it gets a bit stale. Okada is clearly the guy, and there's nothing wrong with that. Okada has all the tools. Naito has got a lot of the tools and is very interesting, but he's clearly not going to overtake Okada. At some point, however, you have to think that Naito either wants to be in that league. They have to shit or get off the pot. It'd be interesting if Naito jumped to All Japan just to "drum up interest." How is the relationship between the two promotions? They used to somewhat collaborate and cooperate, but I think things may have gotten icy for a while. I know New Japan was working with Pro Wrestling NOAH for a while, but I think New Japan and All Japan -- not working together, per se -- but coexisting in the marketplace would be very cool. |

Supposedly CZW is currently dealing with a lot of backlash in regards to them booking Rich Swann for a recent show and trying to go after their wrestlers' financial well-beings.
The Swann stuff mostly pissed off fans while CZW issued an ultimatum recently to their wrestlers demanding them to not work for certain companies even though they get paid more there. |

Is there any word on who put together the Ronda Rousey match at WrestleMania? On his podcast, Cornette said that if Triple H put it together, then he truly is a genius, and it got me thinking about it. We know Michael Hayes was the agent for Lesnar/Reigns. Apparently HBK was the guy for Gargano/Ciampa. I'm sure Triple H contributed to it, don't get me wrong, but there would be an agent working with them, surely.
Heading in, I thought it would be "all hands on deck." Sara Del Rey because she's great with working with the women, Pat Patterson because he's a genius, Arn because he's Arn, etc. Without there being too many cooks, you know? But knowing that HBK likes his epics, that seems like something he could have pieced together with its interpersonal drama and the like. |

From what I read in Patterson's book, he just watches Raw/Smackdown and sends in reports from Montreal. That's all his involvement is anymore

I knew he stepped back a lot, but I thought he helped with a Royal Rumble a few years ago. Like a special occasion sort of thing. Wasn't sure if that was still going on.

Triple H has done similar hands-on stuff with his recent Mania matches while Ronda was getting trained mainly by Angle during the weeks leading up to the match. |

I always assumed it was for tv and she had a contract w/ him to be his 'tv girlfriend'...lots of hollywood relationships are 'contracts' for publicity so I figured it was the same

It's a work. They'll break up and it'll be a big story on Total Divas/Bellas, but then they will get back together and get married LIVE at Wrestlemania 35.

Like how Superman and Lois Lane broke up for a bit after they got engaged, but then they got back together and married immediately.

If it's not a storyline, I feel pretty bad for Cena. I got the impression last year that he was basically pressured into popping the question.

Pretty much considering he's been on the record in the past about not wanting to start a family till after he retired. Its a big reason why he came up with that ridiculous 75 page pre-nup contract for Nikki to sign.

Been really into the vault lately, especially the Coliseum Classics as well as Mid-South Wrestling (which is overrated, sorry not sorry) and WWE Old School videos. Just Landed on 12/28/82 which is headlined by Superstar Billy Graham vs Bob Backlund in a Lumber Jack match and is kicking off with Eddie Gilbert vs SD Jones. I feel like I picked a good one.

I did notice that Drake was the ref. So weird that Drake Younger is a referee in the WWE, and I’m pretty sure he is only in his 30’s, despite looking like he retired after the territories shut down.
