Didn't watch regularly near the end of WCW but I can't imagine there was much to sink his teeth into while calling Viagra on a Pole matches and whatnot.
I always enjoyed Tony. He gets a bad rap. |

He definitely does. People focus in on his work in the dying days of WCW, but he was terrific prior to then.

The thing that makes me love Tony so much is when his podcast came out I quickly realized that he has the most irreverent sense of humor of anyone in the wrestling. He is so quick to make fun of himself. He is honest about when he thinks he was phoning it in as well. What Happened When is by far my favorite podcast, and it's a great way to go back and enjoy WCW with a different much more comical perspective. You'll also find out how much of a fan Tony is of the sport, going back to his youth, which makes his entire career much more meaningful to me. He left with a bad run at the end of WCW but now has this amazing podcast and is doing great work for MLW. Maybe it's my revisionist nostalgia but when I go back and watch 90's WWF/WCW, I'd prefer to listen to Tony any day. JR is so damn angry all the time. Still the best don't get me wrong, but the counter to JR was Tony and he was totally different.

A little thing I've been chewing over in regards to the commentary of Tony Schiavone versus Jim Ross', is that Ross would call shit out when it didn't make sense. He had this "Well, this is going to be bowling shoe ugly" attitude towards matches that didn't work, or angles that didn't make sense. As a result, whether consciously or not, I think fans learnt to "trust" JR. If something sucked, he would let them know, and when something was awesome, the passion was contagious.
It's not that Schiavone can't call or add to things when he needs to. WCW sucked so much that I think beyond simply not caring or being burnt out or whatever, you only have so much cache you can chew through before people stop trusting a word you say. To earn more of that trust from audiences, he would need to point out that most of WCW didn't make sense, and that we were all stupid for not watching the WWF. It turned him into a dishonest used car salesman trying to offload stock from years ago. |

Stephanie McMahon is going to make a "historic announcement" on Raw. Rumors suggest it being an all-woman PPV in September/October. In a perfect world, that would get me excited, because it means that you'd need to have depth and stories in your division. What it will likely mean is Alexa Bliss vs. Ronda Rousey in a rematch, Nia Jax vs. Mickie James, Carmella vs. Charlotte, etc.

So the days of December to Dismember 2006 having the lowest buyrate in WWE history are numbered then.

So I had a crown done on a tooth today. Pretty routine work, but I'm selling it at work like I'm Dick Murdoch so they took me off the phones and now I'm spending my day listening to Jim Cornette's Drive Thru and renaming files at my desk.
Just gotta wince every once in a while, talk without opening my mouth and touch the right side of my face. Last edited by Bad News Gertner; 07-20-2018 at 08:03 PM. |

Hell yeah dude. I went back to work after getting some work done and kept the cotton in my mouth, and acted like I got thrown off the hell in a cell, even though it was pretty painless.
Management was very impressed lol |

Then again probably depends if you count a Network sub as a PPV buyer even if he/she didn't actually watch the event. |

Making fun of Tenay for talking about Mexican Wrestling History, calling shit like " a trash can doesn't hurt" during a hardcore match is Tony not caring. That's his fault. He became a caricature of himself

Wow, I had to edit the spelling of "caricature" three times lol. A little too baked right now.
Spelled it "characture" the first time. |

oh for sure. He'd laugh during hardcore matches too. He was bad. But I think I'd have given up at that point personally.

Forgot about that "trash can doesn't hurt" call. I feel like it's come up on his podcast before and he tried to explain it but I'm not positive.

For years, I thought this was the most racist angle I had ever seen. Then I saw Virgil get hanged by Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart and The Thug, the latter wearing a KKK Hood. Holy hell was that some heat, though. |

Those Women's Tag Team Championships look awful.
Also, like most people, I also thought that Sasha & Bayley will be the first to win them. That was my first thought when I saw the image. If they don't win them, then I can assure you that the first team to win them will be either Becky & Naomi or Becky & Charlotte. |

According to Alexa Bliss, the reason why her in-ring skills and match quality haven't improved since getting called up is pretty much due to being a champion is her only source for heel heat and her laziness for bumping for others.
Its pretty much why nobody comes out looking good in a feud with her in the end since everything revolves on her needing to be in title matches and getting the last laugh instead of helping make others look good in the ring. Quote:

Those Women's Tag belts look awful, as most WWE belts do these days. I hate how they have to look plastic.
