ENTER THE VOID - 9.5/10
This movie is one of the biggest "mindfucks" of a movie I have seen. Felt extremely uncomfortable for like 90% of the movie and was just like mesmerized for the entire thing. "A visual treat." Never really seen anything "quite" like this. Probably not recommended for people "prone" to seizures. From Gaspar Noe, director of Irreversible (that movie with the insanely long rape scene). Here are the opening credits: THE SOCIAL NETWORK - 6/10 I DUNNO it was "OK" I guess. I don't know. I hate Justin Timberlake. I hate how everyone was all cocky and had witty "snarky" dialogue. w/e Last edited by Triple A; 01-27-2011 at 10:27 PM. |

The Social Network - 7.5/10. Maybe it would be higher if I'd seen it earlier or was in a better mood. I don't think so, though. It was quite good, and held my interest strongly. But it was more or less just a very well-crafted account of a current event, unfolding in a very streamlined fashion.
I noticed this about Fincher first with Zodiac, and to a lesser extent, here. It reminds me of All The President's Men. Though he does switch it up here with flash-forwards to legal depositions. The movie also lacks strong characters, and any real weight. Ultimately, I don't feel that The Social Network tells a story that offers anything of substance. Rather, it's content in being interesting and relevant enough to command an audience through a topic from the pulse. And it does that well. And perhaps it shouldn't be any more than that. It's a saga that's still unfolding, and it doesn't really know it's identity yet. It's hard to make a statement at this stage. I don't see how it "defines a generation" or "is a game changer", though. The subject matter certainly might, but not the film itself. I'm not even sure I will see it again, tbh. Buried - 7/10 - I took this on a recommendation. 'Twas pretty enjoyable and engaging, without getting too outrageous. Pretty successful minimalist thriller effort. I only felt they began to stretch it in one place, but it was a short-lived moment. Dinner for Schmucks 5/10. This is saying a lot, but somehow the strange plot was the only thing about this that held me. But I don't know how. It was terribly unfunny. I didn't laugh once, I don't think. It featured 3 or 4 great comedians, so it has no business not drawing some chuckles. They obviously had nothing to work with. On top of that, the entire movie is just oddly sad. Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps 6/10. A competently made sequel to Wall Street. Nothing more. Almost all points are awarded for Michael Douglas greatness, chewing the scenery and delivering some great lines. The story was about as interesting as the original Wall Street, but that was never what mattered in that movie. It was about the statement and that's all lost here. It felt too much like a true sequel to a family story that never existed. The social commentary and themes are pretty disappointing. Especially in the end. I'm not sure if it's because they're under-done, or over-done. It seems like both, in a way. Those who have seen it may understand what I mean. Last edited by Jeritron; 01-25-2011 at 04:23 AM. |

They should have ditched the family angle, chosen a few of the ideas behind the business commentary and focused on those only. |

Clash of the Titans (2010)
8/10 Great action movie. pretty much what I expected it to be. it was nice seeing an updated version though because that one from the 80's was pretty dated. loved the fight with Medusa. |

Dogtooth - Strange and twisted, disturbing yet funny. Hard to get into the plot but everyone should check this out, at times it felt like it was chanelling Bunuel, but really there is nothing out there quite like it. 8/10

Virtuosity - 8/10. Russel Crowe was great in this. I'm usually not a fan of Crowe, but he did great in this.
Edward Scissorhands - 10/10. This was incredible. Everything about it was great. Cinematography, the script, the character of Edward and how Johnny Depp portrayed him. It was great. If Edward put on a suit, I wonder if he would be a sharp dressed man |

So good. "Bizarre," funny, "original." Liked this a whole lot. Kinda want to watch it again already. Black Swan - 8.5/10 Really liked it. I usually kinda dislike Natalie Portman but she was great in this. Curse of the Jade Scorpion - 5/10 Meh. Felt very "corny." |

It was awesome. It was very similar to The Wrestler. However, it is still a top notch movie. |

Good stuff. The directing was bad, but the movie was great. Yes, a 6 out of 10 is considered great. Last edited by PorkSoda; 01-30-2011 at 08:26 PM. |

Winter's Bone - 9/10.
Had the disc sitting around for a good week and a half now; my girl and I were supposed to go out tonight, but the snow had other plans and as such, movie night was born. Just fantastic. Jennifer Lawrence would have a legitimate chance at an Oscar in another year. I'd recommend watching this before the Oscars (it's on Netflix) just so the level of films in 2010 that stand to walk away with absolutely nothing can be fully appreciated. |

You Don't Know Jack gets a 9/10 out of me also.
Pacino is brilliant as usual, and absolutely nails everything about Kevorkian's persona. It's eerie. The movie is based upon his camp being the main focus, yet still manages to avoid either endorsing or denouncing either side of the issue, which is no small task and certainly wouldn't have been the case had this project wound up in lesser hands. It'll get you thinking and talking long after the film is over regardless of your personal stance, mostly because it never questions it. Highly recommended. |

King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters
8/10 Most of the people on here would love this documentary. Good stuff I think I've finally seen the most sorriest (is this a real word?) person in the whole world in his movie. So the movie is about this dude who "apprently" broke the world record for Donky Kong Arcade. He "breaks" it at his house with his own machine. He submits his record breaking video he recorded to this insane cult of video game nerds who are the official record keepers of arcade games. These fucking lunatics don't think his machine was legit and think he cheated, so a bunch of them break into his house (WTF????) and start gutting his machine to take pictures of the game board. They finally say he cheated, with no proof what so ever. Oh and by the way, the leader of these freaks was the current record holder at the time. Some serious ridiculous shit here. Anyway, so the rest of the movie is about the guy going to these live events so he could break the record in front of people. Classic "babyface gets cheated out of the title and tries to get his revenge on the heel" storyline here And the guy who's the most sorriest person ever? Well he's a membr of the Twin Galaxies cult in the movie. His job is to sit and watch VHS tapes all day long of people breaking records just to make sure it was legit. THAT'S ALL HE FUCKING DOES. they showed his rat hole where he lived full of VHS Tapes of people playing video games. like 17 hours a day watching tape. unreal. watch this Last edited by Loose Cannon; 02-04-2011 at 12:05 AM. |
