Here’s Mayor Kane about to eat what appears to be a burger with grilled cheese sandwiches as a bun.

There's some restaurant we go to when we are on the road that has a burger with grill cheese sandwiches as the bun..... I haven't dared order it.... one of the other dudes did, though..... seemed "excessive"......

Oh. Ok. Seems "weird" to be building to Seth Rollins "finally getting his hands on Ambrose" at TLC and then air a steel cage match where Rollins fights Ambrose in a cage and escapes it.

July 08, 2002 Philadelphia, PA • We start with Vince staring into our souls. He was like that for only a few seconds before someone decided to tell him that Raw was now on the air and he began talking and added Kurt Angle to the He also used the phrase "in the interest of fairness" which I remember used to get said a lot back in the day but now, it's practically never said. I actually can't remember the last time it was said but hearing it then just made me smile as I hadn't heard it in years and it was just "unexpected nostalgia". • For some reason, they didn't show which state Raw was in like they usually do, so apparently Philadelphia is stateless. • Booker T's music hits and I'm instantly reminded of Gertner's post about his theme. Thanks Gertner. And I was right. Anyway, Booker T calls out the nWo but Eddie Guerrero comes out instead and calls Booker T a "sucker" and other Spanish derogatory terms. A fight then breaks out and we now have a match between the two. It was a short match and this is how it ended: SPOILER: show I think Eddie was suppose to kick out, as the match was over pretty suddenly and everything seemed to go quiet after the three-count and the bell didn't even ring or Booker's music play until five seconds after the three-count. Also, speaking of the bell, Charles Robinson didn't call for the bell to ring to signal the end of the match after the three-count, instead, you see him kind of "face-palming" after it. Eddie and Booker both appeared to be slightly surprised by it all too. After that, Booker T signals for a Spinaroonie but you can tell that he's stalling but his stalling then makes sense when Chris Benoit appears and attacks him from behind, so the stalling was probably because Benoit wasn't ready and wasn't in the Gorilla Position when the match suddenly ended. Anyway, both Eddie and Benoit attacked Booker T and then Goldust ran down to make the save and got a really loud pop as he did it. Goldust was really over in 2002. • For the first time on Raw, we have "The People's Moment". SPOILER: show It was from when The Rock was being interviewed by Lillian Garcia on SmackDown! and The Rock tells Lilian to admit that she gets "wet....with perspiration" when she stands as close as she was to The Rock. He then asks Lilian if she would like to try some of his strudel and Lilian says yes. I actually think that may have been somewhat of a rib on Lillian as after it, we saw her reaction to it as Benoit was making his way to the ring. SPOILER: show It's Benoit (with Eddie) vs Bubba (with Spike) and Eddie appears to be "off" tonight as he seemed to have forgotten to kick out of the pin during his match with Booker T but also, during this match he kept missing his cues. He attacked Spike and you could tell that it was supposed to cause a diversion and stop Bubba during the match but Eddie attacked Spike when Bubba's back was turned to him so Bubba couldn't see it, and he was kinda left waiting at one point for Eddie to attack Spike. Eddie tried again later and the same thing happened again. He attacked Spike when Bubba's back was turned but Bubba still acted like he had seen it. • Later we see Ric Flair congratulate Jeff Hardy on his ladder match last week and after Jeff leaves, Steven Richards appears and basically calls Flair old and claims that Flair is taking the spotlight away from him. Both men agree on a match tonight and Richards then cheap shots Flair before he leaves. • Oh Dear Lord. It's "That Jackie Gayda Match" now. Trish Stratus & Bradshaw vs Jackie Gayda & Chris Nowinski. JR must be able to see into the future as during Nowinski and Jackie's entrance, JR said "They're very young, they're gonna make a lot of mistakes, they're "green" as they say". I'm sure we all know those two infamous botches but here they are anyways: Botch 1: SPOILER: show Botch 2: SPOILER: show The match ends with that second botch as Trish scores the three-count. JR said it best once the bell rang. "Mercifully, it's over". Lalwer then said "I've seen better catfights". I still don't know what move "Botch 1" was supposed to have been. • We get another "The People's Moment". SPOILER: show It was just a montage of various promos over the five year period from 1998-2002. • It's a night of missed cues as when the nWo came out, X-Pac missed his cue and Shawn Michaels was left wondering where he was. SPOILER: show He appears and they all laugh about it. X-Pac must have been tying his laces or something when the rest of the nWo went out. Shawn Michaels takes the mic and cuts a promo and much like his promo last week, it was really slow and long winded and felt like it was going absolutely nowhere and at one point when Micheals stops talking for a second, you very clearly heard someone frustratingly yell "Get to the point!". Basically, Micheals was talking about how great "The Kliq" was and how they were influential and how they used to get drunk together and so on. Nash then takes the mic and announces that after four months on the injured list, he's now off it and that he wants a match. • Ric Flair vs Steven Richards now and it was what you would expect from match featuring Steven Richards but even though Richards lost, I liked that he had a match. I always liked it when Steven Richards had matches. I've always been a fan of him. • Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman cut a promo in the ring and it's really just Heyman saying how he exploited everyone at ECW. Tommy Dreamer then comes out, cuts a short promo and starts attacking Lesnar with a kendo stick. Heyman tries to attack Dreamer from behind but instead, Dreamer grabs him and is about to powerbomb him through two chairs when Lesnar decides to keep up tonight's tradition of missing cues and misses his cue to stop Dreamer, so instead, Dreamer is basically just holding Heyman's head in his groin for about five seconds whilst Heyman writhes around. SPOILER: show • Jeff Hardy vs William Regal for the European Championship is next and Hardy wins but more on that later as after it we got another.... • "The People's Moment" SPOILER: show This time is was from The Rock's "This Is Your Life" segment when he yells at his high school girlfriend. • After that we see The Coach catch up with William Regal and he asks how he feels about losing his title. Regal begins to cry and then falls to his knees. He's about to go into the foetal position when Chris Nowinski appears and consoles him. • Main Event time and it's Eddie Guerrero/Chris Benoit/Kevin Nash/The Big Show/X-Pac vs Rob Van Dam/Bubba Dudley/Spike Dudley/Booker T/Goldust. The latter all came out together (which was cool to see) to RVD's theme and they were introduced as weighing in at a combined weight of 1,216 lbs. During the match, Shawn Micheals interfered and RVD chased him away up the ramp but just as Micheals disappeared into the Gorilla Position, Brock Lesnar shot out and clotheslined RVD. Micheals then came out to gloat as Lesnar F-5'd RVD on the stage. JR mentioned that it must have been a set up. Seeing that all the heels appear to be working together seems really cool and it's something you don't really get now. Heels now only seem to focus on one guy and it's always who they're feuding with, unless that is it's Survivor Series and everyone suddenly decides that they're willing to die for their brand. Here we have a duo (Benoit & Guerrero), a stable (nWo) and a singles competitor (Lesnar) all working together and the same could be said for the faces. These days you wouldn't really see, for example, Sheamus & Cesaro, SAnitY and Nakamura all working together to get one up on the faces. Anyways, after standing on the apron for fifteen minutes, Nash tags himself in and he's only in the ring for fifteen seconds when his quad decides to explode. SPOILER: show Earl Hebner then throws up the "X" as everyone else but Bubba scrambles in the ring to cover for Nash as Bubba runs to check up on him. The rest of the match was then extremely rushed and nobody seemed to have a clue what was going on. It was just a big mess really (but it is understandable, given the circumstances), as everyone was everywhere and nobody knew where to go. At one point, Shawn Michaels came into the ring, kicked Booker T in the face and then left the ring but even though I'm sure that was suppose to happen, it happened right in front of the referee who just had to pretend he didn't see it. The match after Nash's injury was just chaos. Raw closed with Nash being carried away. This Raw must have been cursed as so much went wrong. - Guerrero not kicking out of his pin and ending a match prematurely as a result - Guerrero missing his cues twice during Benoit's match - "That Jackie Gayda Match" - X-Pac missing his cue - Lesnar missing his cue - Nash being out of action for four months, only to return to the ring for fifteen seconds before his quad disintegrates - The ending of the main event being chaotic To this day, I don't think there's ever been a Raw quite like that one. July 11, 2002 Atlantic City, NJ • We start off with a Tag Team Championship match and it's Hulk Hogan & Edge vs Billy & Chuck. Hogan does nothing throughout the match as Edge always gets stopped from tagging but eventually he manages to get to Hogan and tags him in. Hogan enters the ring, does his usual shtick and Hogan gets the pin. • After the match we see The Undertaker waiting in the parking lot for The Rock when John Cena (in full gear) comes along and says that he's already thanked Vince McMahon for giving him the opportunity to be Undertaker's partner tonight and that he's came to see The Undertaker to tell him what an honour it'll be to be his tag team partner tonight. I've said this before but all this early John Cena stuff genuinely does just leave me feeling like I'm watching a SvR storyline with a freshly made CAW. • After that we see an "Earlier Today" segment and Torrie Wilson is on the beach doing a photoshoot until Molly Holly surprisingly shows up and tells Torrie that her "Golden Thong Award" that she won last week isn't a real accolade and she then challenges Torrie to win a "real award" (her title) tonight on SmackDown. Torrie accepts the challenge and tells Molly to watch her next pose. Torrie then undoes her bra strap and Molly leaves in disgust. • We're back in the parking lot (and we've only had one match at this point) and Finlay, Brooklyn Brawler and Big Johnny are talking to The Undertaker and are trying to get him inside the arena but The Undertaker wants to wait for The Rock. A limo then pulls up and The Undertaker opens the door to find Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle (his opponents tonight) inside. They all exchange words for a bit and while they were doing that, I couldn't help but notice how bad the parking lot's ceiling was. Behind The Undertaker, it looks like it was all damp, cracked and falling apart with tiles missing and all that. A fight then breaks out and as Vince & Co. try to break it up, you can see that the ceiling on the other side of the parking lot is in the same condition. • Women's Championship match now and it's actually a bit weird seeing Molly Holly on SmackDown. Since I started watching these old episodes of Raw and SmackDown, Molly has only ever appeared on Raw but anyway, as you would have guessed, Molly won. Looking back on these old episodes, I can't help but feel that Molly was actually a bit on the underrated side back then. Sure, she had some good success during this time but I feel that she should have been bigger than what she was and she definitely should have been Women's Champion more than twice. • Reverend D-Von & Batista vs Mark Henry & Randy Orton now and it was your basic Tag Team Match but the reason I'm mentioning this match is because of this moment I thought was pretty cool: SPOILER: show Not long after that, Batista pinned Mark Henry after hitting him with a spinebuster. • Backstage we see Edge and Hogan getting ready to go gambling and Hogan is telling Edge about his match against The Rock at WrestleMania X8 but it's one of Hogan's "tall tales" and The Rock appears and challenges Hogan's story. Edge then invites The Rock to come with them and The Rock says yes but only after he's done what he has to do in the ring. The Rock leaves and Hogan continues his "tall tale" about WrestleMania X8 and The Rock returns and mocks Hogan behind his back. He then ends his mocking by mouthing the words "I slapped the piss outta you". SPOILER: show • After that we get the "Extreme Blast Of The Night" and some top notch 2002 graphics. SPOILER: show It was just a way to advertise JVC's "Tower of Power" and all the "Extreme Blast Of The Night" was, was Vince McMahon selecting The Rock as his first draft pick. • The Rock then comes out (quickly followed by Kurt Angle) and during this 15/20 minute segment, The Rock shows that it's 2002 as he kept making Dr. Evil jokes towards Kurt Angle. Very current. At the end of the segment, The Rock and Angle fight and The Rock applies a really bad/awkward looking Ankle Lock on Angle and Angle actually taps. SPOILER: show The Undertaker then runs out and puts a stop to that and Chokeslams both Angle and The Rock. • After that, we see Jamie Noble and Nidia sitting down to an all you can eat buffet and Tajiri is joining them. Noble then gives a big heartfelt speech to Tajiri about how he was really poor when he was a kid and he had nothing but now that he's Cruiserweight Champion, he's got a lot of money and is living a life he could never have dreamed of. He ended the speech by saying that now that he has all he could ever have dreamed of because of the Cruiserweight Championship, he's never going to want to let the championship go. It actually made Noble come across as being a bit of a face. It was a nice backstory that kinda makes his heelish ways a bit more understandable, as all he wanted was a better life for himself and that it appears that he's willing to do anything to get it, even if that means cheating and generally not being a good guy. Anyways, Noble & Tajiri have a match against Hurricane and Kidman which ended with Kidman pinning Noble. During the celebrations, Tazz and Cole were talking but when the camera changed to focus on Nidia's reaction, we saw Tazz and Cole in the background with Tazz looking down (possibly reading) and Cole sitting back with his arms folded and both of them weren't moving their mouths at all but we heard them talking. • The Main Event was Jericho/Angle vs Cena/Undertaker and it ended when Cena pinned Jericho with an Oklahoma Roll, even though Jericho's foot touched the ropes during the referee's count. • I'll end this with a classic. It's a sign but this one is grammatically incorrect. |
