Based on a recent rumor from the UK, the Hlao Reach engine is being used to help develop Bungie's next game which is meant for release on a next-gen console.
Quote:
EGM also thinks the next-gen game could be a potential Halo game but Bungie themselves have stated their involvement with the Halo universe officially ends at the end of March. It is also rumored the engine itself is being used for a game called Destiny which was hinted to be currently in development by Bungie. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...next-gen-game/ _________________________________________________________ Daily Recap: 1) Art Style: CUBELLO (WiiWare), Mario's Picross (3DS VC), and Radar Mission (3DS VC) are this month's game rewards for Club Nintendo members. https://club.nintendo.com/rewards.do 2) Valve confirms Counter-Strike Global Offensive will have a Summer 2012 release date and has at least 7 maps confirmed so far to be included with the game. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...w-screenshots/ 3) Rumored image of the prototype of Valve's Steam Box console have been leaked. http://www.screwattack.com/news/rumo...ox-could-be-it 4) According to recent sources, the bosses for UK retailer GAME are leaning towards shutting down the company due to the lack of confidence the company can survive long enough with mounting financial losses and lack of major titles as the key factors. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/real-...retailer-game/ |

What idiot at EGM thought their next game was a Halo game after everything that's been said? Jesus.

I do.
Normally don't post news not involving the US/Canada area unless its something big or an on going story like with GAME. Also remember what UK's version of Gamestop because of Kotaku in the past having news and sales charts from the UK. |

Valve announces some good news and some bad news in regards to the upcoming Counter Strike Global Offensive game.
The good news is the game is still on track for a Summer 2012 release date and the feedback has lead to a lot of tweaks and changes in the game. The game is still set for 7 maps to be included at launch with all being based on classic CS maps. More good news was revealed for PC owners of the game as Valve announces the PC version will be given top priority in terms of both frequent and amount of post-launch updates to the game. This was due to the strong feedback from PC beta users. Now for the bad news, similar to every other Valve game released on consoles, updates will be a lot less frequent while Valve hasn't gotten as much feedback from console beta users. The initial goal of PC-PS3 cross-platform play was also dropped due to the feedback and difficulties experienced during the beta. Quote:

As part of Final Fantasy's 25th anniversary this year, Square-Enix teases a new Final Fantasy game might be on the way.
Besides Theatrhythm Final Fantasy which was released last month for the 3DS, the company also announced next month a special commemorative set of Final Fantasy themed playing cards will go on sale in Japan. The company also could be teasing a new game in development as the anniversary section for the official Final Fantasy website was updated. The biggest rumor right now is the company is considering remaking Final Fantasy VII with the twist of it arriving on the 3DS. Previously Sony owned the exclusive rights to Final Fantasy VII due to their role as a publisher of the game and partially providing the funding needed to move the game away from the N64 and onto the PS1 at the time. If the remake does arrive for the 3DS, then it would be another game in the series for the DS/3DS line which Nintendo has provided the funding and publishing rights. However a different rumor could be pointing to a remake of Final Fantasy V for the 3DS if it is true. http://www.screwattack.com/news/myst...nting-new-game __________________________________________________________ Daily Recap: 1) The rumored Vita games shown in Drakul's post have been debunked after it was revealed the image for GTA Vice City Nights was actually just a shopped image from 4chan while only Monster Hunter has been confirmed but not announced if its just a remake of the PSP game. http://www.gamedemption.com/debunked...vita-and-more/ 2) GAME announces starting today all pre-owned games will be having massive firesale discounts as a last-ditch attempt by the company to generate a short term boost of cash. http://www.screwattack.com/news/game...ation-firesale 3) Peter Molyneux's announces he is leaving Lionhead Studios once Fable: The Journey is finished. He will keep an advisor role with Lionhead Studios should they need his input for future Fable games. http://www.giantbomb.com/news/peter-...-journey/4022/ |

V makes most sense as they did III and IV on the DS in fancy 3Dness. I hope it is, purely because it would mean a 3D VI remake is closer and I would squee.

So I've just tried out Mari0 and I have to say, it's not as great as the trailer made it out to be.
The lever editor was good though, I liked that. Also, Mario always walked and ran backwards. |

The next Xbox and PS4 could be a lot more expensive than people expect due to Epic Games wanting "bleeding edge" technology as the top priority for both consoles.
Epic Games believes the potential losses and costs for these consoles can easily be subsidize by the software. Quote:

Epic Games previously was very influential in the development of the Xbox 360 with their main contributions being the advantage in RAM and better GPU than what the PS3 contained. The studio is also rumored to be once again providing some suggestions towards the development of the next Xbox. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...bleeding-edge/ ___________________________________________________________ Daily Recap: 1) Ninja Gaiden 3 will be having an online pass with the standard reason of locking out multiplayer for used copy owners. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...s-online-pass/ 2) Valve will not be making a new console and instead admits the leaked pictures was an in-house box meant to test out the upcoming Steam user interface for television screens. http://www.giantbomb.com/news/valve-...ime-soon/4027/ 3) Sega will no longer be making Marvel movie-based games after Disney terminates its contract due to them being unhappy with the results from the recent movie-based games produced by Sega. http://www.screwattack.com/news/disn...-games-anymore |

Dunno if it was mentioned in the Mass Erect 3 thread, but it's been confirmed that the totally not-on-disc DLC is actually on the disc. It's very likely Bioware lied to us about it (though it's possible there's another explanation, albeit unlikely).
Also, what Captain of Fun said. |

Yeah, same shit is happening with Street Fighter X Tekken. 12 characters and 2 sets of alternate costumes for each character.
Though in this case, I don't recall if Capcom ever stated whether there would be on disc dlc or not. Capcom's official statement: Quote:

It's bullshit. They released costume catalogue dlc for ssf4 that allowed you to see dlc costumes when playing online with people who have bought the costumes.

MCV "exclusive source" says next Xbox will have solid state retail games and no disc drive. Probably a good way to get more storage space without paying Sony for Blu-ray.

Still, it's not as bad as SRtT (for sheer volume) or Bioware (who insisted this was stuff being worked on after the disc was finalised), so.... Oh dear. Please tell me you're not one of those morons. |

Depends. I'm not one of those morons who believe that Microsoft would refuse to give money to Sony because it's Sony, but I am one of those morons who heard that it was prohibitively expensive to license the technology for blu-ray.
I've just Googled it and read that in 2010 that it dropped from $20 a license to $9.50 for blu-ray hardware, so it might be more feasible these days. |

You mean...They had the audacity to ask a comparable amount for Blu-Ray licensing in the past when compared to DVD technology?
That makes sense. I mean, Microsoft didn't pay DVD licensing fees last gen.... |

It was $15-20 when they released the original XBox, but some of that cost was MPEG-2 licensing as well, which was disabled unless you bought their dongle remote control. There is a huge possibility I've read all this ages ago and not comprehended it right.
If it is true though, as long as it's a fast medium and doesn't bump game prices up, I'm all for a solid state medium. |

So would it mean all the next Xbox games are only downloadable titles or use SD-like cards?
Probably going to hurt them at least in the short term if the next console is digital-only considering how poor internet speeds are on average in the US and that is their main stronghold. Could also piss off retailers or at least the non-big ones which hurt the PSP Go when it tried to remove retailers for selling games. Edit: Nevermind, missed the line about the games being on a card in the article. Probably also means no chance of backwards compatibility unless its done like the PS3 and Vita where you have to rebuy your games in a digital form although at least it won't have the same problem the Xbox 360 had with bad disc drives and the RRoD. |

RROD was a completely different problem.
Also, backwards compatibility has been a pretty big deal for the last couple gens. removing it would be damaging in the short term, I think, since Sony's unlikely to abandon the BD format and even the Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-U will have BC. Plus, pretty sure the cards would be prohibitively expensive. |

A blank 64 gb SD card costs $60
Thats what you would need to replace a blu ray disc with, storage wise anyway. Current game discs are maxed out at 10gb, a 16 gb card costs $18. Im guessing though that their format will be proprietary to hold back piracy for a while. If you cant buy blank cards and you cant buy the hardware to read/write them yourself, it would be pretty hard for the average gamer to do much, at first anyway... |

Would twice the storage space satisfy them? A look at some of the popular games on Steam would indicate no, or at least not for long. A decent chunk of big games run at 10+ GB. With proprietary cards, price goes up some, too. Even mass produced. You can have two tiers of cards, but then it becomes an issue of who eats the added costs for more expensive cards. |
