967k for Dynamite. Double their audience and they’re trailing SmackDown by quite a bit.

That monster 31 million NFL Playoffs game didn't actually destroy Raw as much as I figured. Maybe if the game was more competitive, but Raw came in at 1.489, only down 12% from last week.

Wrestling is so cold right now that I don’t even care about the Dynamite numbers this week.

Raw over 2 million for the 2nd straight week? They don't even have Booker of the Year! AEW clearly about to get a MASSIVE rating, right???

Obviously TK is still booker of the year even if he can’t grow interest in his product. It’s the people who are wrong.

The show followed its usual trends and went downhill across almost every segment. My favorite thing about that is how Dave Meltzer tries to explain it away in comparison to SmackDown, which tends to get people to tune it. “Network television is different to cable for…well, for a number of reasons. It just is.” It’s because SmackDown starts with main eventers, gives you a hook, then finishes with the most important thing on the show. Dynamite is disconnected segments, largely in a bubble, with no show-long story.
Darby and Joe did get a 6% increase for their main event, which is the second time they have been almost unique with growth in the main event. Darby has got something and Joe can be ratings when they point and aim him correctly. But they’ll never figure it out. |

Still crazy to me that the third hour of Raw will be mercilessly mocked for dipping below 1.6 million, yet AEW can do about half of that on a Wednesday and it is considered a “hot product.”
Well, I do think a lot of people are moving away from that label a little. But I’m listened to the Lapsed Fan’s TNA journey right now and they were getting some >Dynamite numbers on Monday nights. Granted that was 13 years ago, but they are constantly ridiculed for not being able to grow their product, and yet here we are with AEW and the kids’ gloves have to be on. |

Damn Sami is really driving those SD ratings. Good for him. Wonder what WWE would be like if they had struck gold with him 7 or 8 years ago whenever he first came up to the main roster.

I liked Sami back then, but part of his success now is based on him having been there so long and navigating that system. He could have been “da man,” but it would have a way different feeling to it.

The booking in AEW is so bad. If you start at the top, MJF vs. Danielson should be a classic feud, but it’s followed AEW’s own tropes and neither guy feels like they’re hitting the notes they should be. It’s like they’re all feuding with different people. The obvious arc of the feud is Danielson wants the belt, MJF twists the knife about Danielson’s best years being behind him and that being a shame. How fucking hard is that?
Adam Page and Jon Moxley are feuding about who takes more head shots in 2023. When they wanted a graceful exit for Mox from the the title scene, why they chose this guy who is supposed to be a top babyface is beyond me. Just let Mox take his vacation. If he’s sticking around, he should have had a heel to keep him tied up. A Lance Archer or something. It wouldn’t be brilliant, but at least it would make thematic sense. By the way, what’s happened to The BCC? Why aren’t they helping Danielson? It seems like he’s buddies with this Takeshita guy, but he’s already got a faction. This doesn’t make sense. Chris Jericho is doing his best ‘99 era Hogan. He’s trying to stick it to the world by “making” young guys while keeping himself over, only this hurts them and sets them back. Ricky Starks is going to be a damn fine addition to NXT. Remember when Dave Meltzer said the AEW tag division was the best ever? He literally said it was the best ever. How’s that working out? He was delusional then, but even that sycophant would have to admit that even if it were actually great, it’s fucking not now, and that’s an indictment of the booking. The Women’s Division fucking sucks. That’s on Tony Khan, but honorable mentions go to the genius mind of Kenny Omega and Britt Baker being allowed to play her bullshit backstage. Speaking of Kenny Omega, it’ll be interesting to see what happens when “The Homer” is revealed. But even though he sucks and has done actual damage to AEW and its chances to appeal to people, do even his fans think this ill-advised trios bullshit is the best use for him? They paid for licensed music and tangled guys on the last leg of their contracts up in meaningless segments that lose ratings and damage the show. Maybe Omega could have been put into a program with Page for Revolution? That took me less than 5 seconds to think of and it works better than what they’re already doing. This shit isn’t good. It hasn’t ever been good. The cracks that were always there are splitting more and more as the unprofessionalism of this shit becomes more and more clear. What’s going on with Will Hobbs? Adam Cole? They start stuff and then it never goes anywhere. |
