This is super interesting. It's a news report done by Connie Chung on her Saturday Night show she used to do in 1990. Lots of bullshit regarding money generated by wrestling, but it's really cool

Would it really? At this point there’s no reason for them to believe that because they’re making money hand over fist anyways.

They can keep making money off their glory days forever. Not making interesting content and not making stars people will pay to see now or in the future definitely costs them money though.
The past 15 years of content is way more plentiful but not nearly as valuable as the previous 15 years of content. That’s a bad trend. |

Making the kind content that fans will universally enjoy could likely clash with what their investors and sponsors want from them. And they're not going to risk that, especially when they're already doing great financially.
Going public was the death knell of WWE as a wrestling promotion. |

I never understood the argument that making a product that will be universally enjoyed might piss off the investors.

Other than the potential that making the product more enjoyable might cost more money I can't really think of any reason why it would piss off investors. It literally doesn't make sense.

A record low rating probably means it's time for another Legends night, the return of Raw Supershow or the McMahons on tv as authority figures.

If WWE were to put more focus into making fan pleasing content, they might make more money. However, if they botch it, they could end up losing money. Because as cliche as it may be, the truth is what the fans want isn't always what's best for business. If you're an investor, and WWE is making increasing boatloads of money with their current product, why would you want them to change?
For the fans? Investors don't give a flying fuck about the fans. For wrestling? Investors don't give a flying fuck about wrestling. All Investors care about is the perception of the brand that they've attached their money to. And when I say perception, I don't mean the perception of WWE by a bunch of wrestling fans on the internet. I mean the perception of wall street. |

What is the botch they risk by making the product better?
They’re making money on their library. How does improving the current product risk fucking that up? You’re talking as if “improving the current product” means a bunch of blood, shocking language and corpse-fucking that would please a niche audience but be a PR nightmare. |

Investors want consistency and are afraid of change, unless it's necessary. WWE, bland as it may be to us, is nothing if not consistent. It's just a product to them. As long as it's making money they're not going to want them to change in any way.
It's the same reason why EA continues to release the same $60 sports games every year with little changes despite the cries from hard-core fans that "this is the worst version yet". Because it still makes ungodly amounts of money. If it doesn't need to change, then there's no point in changing it. That's the mentality. Not saying for one minute that I'm happy about it, but that's what it is. |

Fans thought it was great, but it was "too far" for some suit(s). *I will always asterisk this, because I think it was done in paperwork form only. They had to make it look legit. He got fired with a wink and a nod and a handshake agreement that after the incident blew over, he was "rehired". I believe he was thanked for his discretion on the matter with that initial US title run on his "return". |

A better product would be preferable, but I can, in this backwards sort of way, understand why the WWE wants to have a sustainable and simple status quo for easy production. Putting on good content is work and creates further demand for quality content. You might bring in a few hundred thousand people with a better product, but when the quality dips, does your stock price dip with it when the people leave?
They’ve already got that narrative to battle though — people are leaving the stale product. And even without changing the overall philosophy of the promotion, WWE could just be better executed as is. |

Arn Anderson recently switched formats on his podcast dur to poor feedback. The show is now Arn telling the story of his career starting at the very beginning. It went from being the worst wrestling podcast to one of the best. They are 4 episodes in and it's fantastic.

They've done so many of those. What else is there to ask. Arn is better as a story teller imo.

Jeff's show has reinvigorated me with Conrad's podcasts. I like to listen to Jr and Tony as well but they do seem to have e lost the steam. When Tony started reviews for ECW I tapped out. JR is worth it if they topic is of interest.

You gotta check out Arn's show now. You'd love it.
The live watches JR does are unlistenable. Like you said, it depends on the topic. I wish Kurt Angle's show were better. He just doesn't provide much insight. |

With Jarrett, already I feel like you can't listen to him and not have a renewed interest in his past. I've been watching him in WCW and a few early TNA episodes. He was such a great heel. So funny at times too. When he interrupted Toby Keith at the first TNA show, legit one of the greatest heel heat moments ever. Fucking hilarious. Also in 2000 Nash gave him Commissioner duties, he was hilarious in that role. The worst thing about the end of WCW is by far Mark Madden. Whatever was bad, he made worse. I can't stand Mark fucking Madden.

Asuka tweeted out a photo of Allegiant Stadium in Nevada. Many are speculating that this is the site for SummerSlam. Don’t know how wise it is to be tweeting out that sort of stuff when the WWE is looking to cut talent and you’re a woman approaching your 40’s that probably earns a bit of scratch.
This will see SummerSlam joining WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble as the WWE’s annual stadium shows. Might lend credence to the rumors of Roman Reigns vs. John Cena and Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar as main events for the show, unless they just plan on people being able to attend shows being the draw. |
