When the original brand split took place, crossover matches only happened at wrestlemania, and they felt really special.

royal rumbles were pretty great in those days, too...

seems weird how they started doing supershows, dissolved the split, resplit the rosters and are doing it all over again

if they want the champ on both shows, unify the belts again. i actually didn't even mind it when they did the first draft and hogan and trish could go wherever

Roman Reigns appearing on both shows is the best thing they can do to help that show. The roster split always leaves someone behind. It has to.

Last time they brought the rosters together they kept the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles separate for about two years after the fact.

I didn't appreciate how the World Heavyweight Championship played second fiddle to the WWE Championship during that era. They've done a much better job with the Universal Championship, even considering some of the terrible booking decisions.

The WWE Championship is now basically what the World Heavyweight Title was. The belt held by Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns is always going to feel more important.

It was in a similar position during Triple H's reign of terror. It has the "prestige" behind it to persist through the years.

Actually a fair point. I wish there was just one though, because you can only truly have one “top guy.”

Hot take: Chris Jericho has been the drizzling shits for the past five years, and his entire career trajectory since hooking himself to Kevin Owens has been to find roles where he can mask his alcoholism by playing to a converted choir.

It’s sad. I’d always love classic Chris Jericho. He did great things for Tazz Dan. But he’s a washed up hack who needs wrestling and knows enough of the words to get fans he earned in yesteryear to ignore his declining talent and obnoxious neediness for any sort of relevancy.

I genuinely hope his story doesn’t end in tragedy. He’s gone through a lot of shit, losing friends, peers, injuries, brushes with true fame that never amounted to anything sustainable. Great artists, and Jericho was one, find clever way of masking their issues so they can indulge while seemingly being in control. I’ve got a spooky feeling from Jericho for a long time. I think it was when his weight gain started and he tried to pass it off as him wanting to be a heel in Japan. He hasn’t worked there since. It was a lie. And he went from being a classically minded pro-wrestler who didn’t even want merchandise as a heel to being a sap that will market anything and everything he can. And I think he tries to pass it off as a gimmick (“Everyone I ever loved, I pushed them all away”), but I think he’s in way worse emotional shape than people realize. Dude was drinking most of a bottle of vodka during some of his drunken podcasts.

To think of how active his lifestyle must actually be — training for wrestling but also performing on stage when he does it. And he’s still gained so much weight and lost so much physical control of who he is, to the point he is actually ashamed of it. Look at photos of him sucking in his gut as he poses with women half his age. And look at how he tweeted that photo of him in response to the NBA lead-in backlash. If he didn’t care, he wouldn’t go out of his way to try and pass himself off as an Adonis still.

It can be so easy to put up the blinders when you respect and admire someone’s work so much. But the evidence that this dude has lost it has been there for a long time, and all his energy goes into convincing people he’s still a genius so you should just trust him instead of actually getting the human being behind the performer help.

I don't think WWE would ever give a non-wrestler the headliner spot in a HOF ceremony but if they ever did, it'd be hard to argue against Paul Heyman being the guy to get it.

While I still enjoy his work, I'm saddened by his progression. He certainly needs an intervention but it seems like people are gladly enabling his tendencies. This is beyond his politics or his ability to handle fair criticism.

Hey, WWE has actually done a pretty good job of building up some black stars on Raw. You’ve got Bobby Lashley, MVP, Big E, The New Day and Omos. Now, I think representation is important anyway, but I do wonder how those shows track with black viewers? Black kids? You know, versus Cody Rhodes and his white savior complex. I wonder who advertisers would rather appeal to? Hmm.

Raw is also a three-hour show, so Dynamite gets an average across two hours compared to a show that is always going to be lowered by their third hour because of the slot, which still performs better than most other things on cable, which is why it hasn’t been axed. And all three hours of Raw are ranked, so in essence, WWE had three of these bullshit slots locked up, whereas AEW only has one.

But yes, let’s keep comparing apples to pears and pushing this imaginary narrative of AEW catching Raw in terms of popularity or in their appeal to advertisers, which is the ONLY reason ratings matter.

WWE is PG, its audience is larger — domestically and globally — and its audience is probably a little more diverse than the fat white crowds you see at Dynamite anyway. But let’s not talk about the actual demographics of the fan-base. Let’s pretend that 18-49 still matters when it comes to CABLE TELEVISION in 2021.
How come AEW never talks about the 18-34 demo, and only the 18-49 demo? Maybe Raw beats AEW in the 18-34 demo, which seems to go against that theory of AEW drawing a younger audience maybe???

Pretty sure AEW beat Raw 18-34 as well.

So... maybe not.

I thought about posting that clip after hearing it. That was the hardest I’ve laughed listening to a Cornette podcast in a long time. The Harley Race story had me in tears. It was so bizarrely nonsensical.

It really is baffling to me why Hogan is such a pathalogical liar, he just constantly spouts a load of shit then when called out on it claims he was misquoted. He even claims he was present when the Undertaker character was given to Mark Calloway but Calloways version of events are totally different to Hogans nonsensical waffle.

He just seems to want to keep himself relevant even if it's at the expense of constantly rewriting history that these days is easily fact checked and makes him look more of an ass. He inserts himself into situations he wasn't present for ( as seen above) and seemingly ALWAYS has a different "recollection" of events to everyone else. I'm amazed he hasn't claimed he slammed an 800lb Andre in WCW after forming DX.

It's got to a point where nomatter what he says you just have to assume it's either a lie or has been "revised" heavily so it somehow comes out in his favour if it's a story. It's pretty sad at this point, a 68 year old man constantly revising history to his favour when anyone can google what he says and the bullshit klaxon sounds loudly with the results.

Sorry, miswrote my take pretty badly! Meant to make the point that AEW only cares about the 18-34 demo when it is convenient since they dont win that one typically. The bragging about the young adult demo (18-49) but not bragging about the even younger demo is cherry picking at it's finest.

That is the demo Raw got hit hardest by MNF, 18-34.

Why WOULD they “brag” about a demo they don’t win?

They (or the wrestling journalist) hype the areas that they succeed in. Like every company in the world.

It’s still spin. People are allowed to point out the logic in bragging about that sort of thing and calling it a “win.”

Always felt it was very illogical in sports when teams celebrate scoring but conveniently DON’T celebrate when the other team scores.

Not an accurate comparison. It’s like kicking in a field goal in the first half and acting like you’ve won the game.

So many things can be said about the ratings. From them being archaic and inaccurate, to the further diversity of the audiences — in terms of both demographics and scope. Bragging about getting a 0.44 in an arbitrary age group that most people don’t even pay attention to in 2021 is honestly more being a mark for the Observer than anything.

The thing is he doesn't even have to lie about things like that. He's one of the biggest stars in the business and has lived a long and interesting life with the adoration of fans who will excuse all of his shortcomings no matter what. You'd think that'd be enough.

You are absolutely right, they wouldnt, but they do use the 18-49 demo to support the narrative that they have a younger audience. Its fine, but its just not entirely true.

Apparently not, just has to trot out more fabricated stories people can roll their eyes at. I'm eagerly awaiting the tale of him gorilla pressing a 2000lb Yokozuna with one hand. About the only real heavy wrestler he never actually slammed as nobody that did it ever really came close to making it look like a slam, so much girth and weight involved their arms weren't long enough to do it properly.

WHY IM A LEGEND

Someone chatting to Stu. Stu says, “my son Owen is the 2nd best high flyer in the world, the only one who can touch him is (this is the other part I can’t remember, it was a Japanese wrestler)”.

The guys looked a bit puzzled and said “Well, Stu, forgotten wrestler retired 15 years ago”.

Stu looked at them expressionless for a few moments. He then said “my son Owen is the best high flyer in the world, no one can touch him”

At the same time, though, every bitch and their brother used "Satan's Sister" before AND after them in WCW, since that was apparently near the top of the list to cue up, but everyone remembers it as the theme of The Hollywood Blondes.

Being fair, his whoppers have also benefitted him, such as his GAWKER lawsuit where he claimed Hulk Hogan's dick was bigger than Terry Bollea's.

I wonder, though, if there's something legitimately wrong with him. I mean, some actual mental deterioration. I say that because some of these stories he's told ages ago, or have been rumored or alleged, but they haven't been nearly stretched and fabricated to the point where they are now. Things he's heard about turned into events he's witnessed firsthand. Documented things he has done have progressively gotten grander and grander with the passage of time not merely because he's a habitual liar, but because there is some sort of illness or debilitation that makes him actually believe it happened that way now.

Or maybe he's trying to spin some real-life yarn and hoping to be understood by his family like the movie Big Fish. Though, at this point, it wouldn't surprise me if Hogan said he wrote that script.

Wouldn't surprise me if there was some deteoration there, but i think it's more down to him just being a habitual liar. Back in the 70's 80's and 90's you could say almost anything and get away with it as fact checking was much harder, these days with the internet you can debunk something in seconds. Hogan has just been in the habit of exagerrating and lying for decades so it's literally a kneejerk thing for him to do, it's like the lie passes his lips before he even considers the question.

So naturally these days people can look something up that he claims and come to a conclusion about it pretty quick. It's like he's clueless about how quick people can look things up and he still thinks its 1984.

It takes Hogan an hour and a half to stand up straight, apparently. I just envisaage him hulking up numerous times in that time period and failing repeatedly, falling down and selling the back whilst shouting "NOO BROTHERRRR".

Bryan Danielson adheres to a plant-based diet and would have people in WWE catering make him Vegan meals for years.

Danielson says he doesn't eat eggs or cheese, but he does eat fruits. Including an apple.

Appearing on Barstool's The Yak, Bryan gave his thoughts on apples.

"As I tend towards a vegan diet and people say all sorts of things about a vegan diet, I find it really fascinating that nobody really brings this up; if you eat an apple -- people say, 'Oh, you kill plants.' No, I don't really kill plants. When I eat an apple, the tree doesn't die. Essentially, I'm eating the tree's sperm. I'm eating the sperm. It's tree semen. That's how they reproduce other trees. Most fruits are semen. Real fruits are semen because they contain the seed inside of them. In theory, that has to be planted into the ground for another tree to grow," he said.

Do with that information what you will and remember it the next time you're eating a fruit.

His interviews were copied by some of the biggest stars of that era, including Jesse Ventura, Hulk Hogan, Austin Idol, Dusty Rhodes, Gino Hernandez and countless others. On Sunday he wrote, "Hi fans, There will be no wrestling post tonight. Just this statement from me. I am currently having heart problems which is the title of this message. I am getting ready to go to the Mayo Clinic to be checked out. I am not feeling well and if the hospital admits me, which I am sure they will for future testing tomorrow, I will have Mike, my FB Administrator, give you an update. Superstar B. G.”

Valerie Coleman, his wife, later said that he was suffering from heart issues and fluid in the lungs.

Last night she wrote, "The fluid is coming off slow but every little bit helps. Still in afib as well. They are doubling his diuretic dose for 3 days to see if that works….can’t do more because it can damage his kidneys. The prayers and support are very much appreciated. Thank you!”
