This is the first I'm hearing of said exchanges and I'm good with having no other information about them.

Are they actually exchanges between the guys, or just people comparing them? I know Meltzer is trying to do a “Nick Jackson is the closest thing to Shawn Michaels I’ve seen” thing.

Do any of us have any insight as to what is fact and fiction? No. He is reporting what sticks behind paywalls and also what the "industry news sites / whatever" are reporting as news. This is the way any reporting works, and the same methodology any reporter uses, doubly so in the entertainment industry. I don't see Smeat going around saying "THIS IS 100% VERIFIABLE FACT!!! FUCKING FIGHT ME!". In fact, he's made MANY "correction" posts when information becomes available that may invalidate something he posted earlier. Rather, he reports the news which he finds and posts it. If it doesn't fit your narrative or whatever, you take issue with HIM and not the actual source of the news. As much as smeetzsheetz.com should be an awesome website, it isn't his. It would be like getting pissed off at the news anchor for reading whats on the teleprompter, or watching a news channel you dislike just so you can scream at it. Go for the source if you actually give a damn like you say. THEY are the ones throwing out "misinformation". |

This little spat came up because he responded to a hypothetical I posted saying “that would be dumb because of all this historical evidence.” I responded to that and he started listing a bunch of things that didn’t happen. That literally happened. The WWE didn’t buy CMLL and dissolve it into Mexico. They didn’t buy NOAH or STARDOM and do the same thing in Japan. He takes this shit at face value. That’s my issue. Reporting on hearsay is fine. Sometimes you have to do it. That’s why I initially defended Smeat when other people got up him for posting shit. But he goes that extra step into inserting himself citing it with a “Well, actually.” That’s why I tell him off. Because he’s reporting a bunch of hearsay that is designed to get clicks, sell newsletters and push a narrative. If you think about the stories, some of them anyway, for more than one minute, you realize how they cannot be true. How could Vince McMahon initially taken control of NXT? He’s a busy man. He’d be busy on Wednesdays. Just think about it. That’s all I ask. And don’t act like you’re in possession of some holy relic because you can regurgitate it. His entire arguments, when he sees something he doesn’t like, are based around newsletter info. He doesn’t add a single thought of his own, or respond to them. An essay by Smeat would be source, source, source, source with no critical thinking. And they wouldn’t be good sources either. But he still acts smart because of them. Anyone can post someone else’s thoughts. In this thread, he backed up someone calling the things he posted “facts.” His borrowed opinion is “fact.” I can see through the news reports that, you know, predicted the end of the world that didn’t come? Those ones. I don’t like “facts.” And if you attack the sources, he’ll defend them too. Post the bullshit, but when someone posts “Hey, you know that’s not true right?” don’t call them an asshole and whatever. And Smeat does, he’s not above it. His news sharing gives him a sense of authority and he doesn’t like that being challenged. See what happens when you question whether or not Meltzer still has any good WWE sources. Defends the shit out of him. When was the last story Meltzer broke? Edge to the WWE? He got that from AEW because Edge had signed a deal with WWE and The Bucks or someone told Dave they couldn’t talk to him anymore. Can’t think of one more recent than that. |

drave, here is Smeat responding to someone saying something he posted was truth:
Quote:
I’m sure his “ratings talk” there is the Meltzer, grab some numbers from Showbuzz charts (super academic source there), put emphasis on the area you want to make one company look better than the other, spin that into a story to sell newsletters. He believes what he is sold. |

He does use qualifiers here, I’ll give him that.
Quote:
And yeah, I’m stupid and full of nonsense because I pointed out that NXT Japan and NXT Mexico didn’t happen. And because I point out that cable television is a different industry than it was 20 years ago — younger demos use streaming. Why did AEW get booted off TNT for a property that doesn’t draw as high a demo? And why did WarnerMedia pay so much more for it than AEW? Hmm. Could it be that the demo talk is all bullshit and you can see through it with the slightest bit of common sense. That’s why he brought up the ratings, by the way. He cannot stand that people would question Dave’s interpretations of these numbers. His hyper-literal, god-fearing, these are a stone cold science interpretation of the numbers. Which does have to squint sometimes to make those gaps seem smaller, or this gap seem wider. Numbers are fixed, but how people use them is malleable. The meaning they extract is variable. |

Gerald Brisco and JBL's new podcast is a ton of fun.

I have NO IDEA why they dedicated a talk show segment to discuss WWE and AEW news in the middle of the show, like wtf "Is WWE for sale" "Should AEW sign Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn" |

He was a ring announcer for ECW. Looks pretty bad!
I thin MLW is putting those Wrestling writers on their show so that those writers will write about MLW like it's important. |

They only did 40k viewers. I mean, that might be in line with what Vice was expecting, but I dunno.

Hammerstone/Fatu would have been a great match if Hammer didn't slap his thigh no joke at least 50 times. Dude slaps his thigh so blatantly for every goddamn move! And I love AEW!
Will Ospreay in MLW could be interesting and get some buzz there. I just don't really know who his "best oppponent" would be? The mentioned Myron Reed, and yeah that will be fine. But Will moved to heavyweight and that would be a step back in my opinion. |
