Blade Runner 2049- 5/5

I was really skeptical when the sequel was announced. It doesn't seem like the kind of movie that you would think to make a sequel for. That and Hollywood's current cash grab obsession had me dreading it. Especially since the first is one of my favorite movies.

Couldn't have been more wrong. They knocked it out of the park. Fucking loved everything about this movie. How they paced every twist and turn. The attention to detail in replicating not only the world of the original film, but the atmosphere. From the music, to the unique cinematography, they captured the feel of the first films world perfectly, but the characters and story allowed it to stand on it's own. That is something incredibly hard to do, and you don't see it all that often.

I love cyberpunk, noir, and the world of the original blade runner, so I'm not gonna act like I'm not a little biased, but I think this is a beautiful film, all the same.

I also love that like the original, they never definitively say whether Deckard is a replicant in this one either.

I like to go with the Deckard is a replicant theory, but I think it's great that it's open to interpretation.

Yeah, but multiple people who worked on the film have different opinions on it.

The screenwriter and Harrison Ford both subscribe to the "Deckard is Human" train of thought.

Jumanji: 9/10 - Perfect family movie. I DETEST Jack Black, yet can admit he did an excellent job in the film. The Rock is The Rock, same goes for Kevin Hart. Never saw the original Jumanji, so I have nothing to base it off of other than the old one was about a board game, but as a stand-alone film it is great.

My DVD/Blu Ray collection is massive and I resent "Arrival" taking up space in it.

I moved to digital with occasional steelbook purchases. “Movies Anywhere” is a cool service to combine all digital lockers.

The more I think about it. Arrival is 2 of 10. It did help me fall asleep on 2 different nights though.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 7/10. Not as good as Vol 2 but still really good. Can't wait for 3.

3 Billboards Outside Redding Missouri - 9/10. Amazing script, perfect acting, really great movie that keeps you laughing.

Lucy wasn't bad because it was pseudo philosophy, Lucy was bad because it made no sense and Scarlett Johansson is shockingly limited as an actress.
I couldn't even finish watching Lucy it was so bad. I think I spent the first 45 minutes intermittently fast forwarding portions too.

I don't think anybody went into it with expectation of depth.

I worry about people that can't identify a bad performance from a good one. Literally anybody could have improved that film just by not having Scarlett Johansson's stupid face. She looks like she's confused all the time, even when she's supposed to look intense she just looks like she's struggling to read slightly above her level.

Moviepass #33 Den of Thieves 7/10 wanted to really like it but A) its too (2 hours 20 min) long and B) you know the ending about 1/2 hour in. Still pretty good..just not great

The scifi was broken for me. The premise of humans only using 10% of their brains is false and a film built around that kept me from suspending my disbelief. I tried to look past it but coundt. Film may have been fine but i was too biased to notice.

Blade Runner 2049-8/10

Little long and drawn out. But very much captured the look, feel and overall vibe of the original. Compelling visuals. I wonder if they continue the story. Great film nonetheless.

it is a bit dated. Had i not seen it when it was fresh i might feel the same. Think of how much its impacted everything since. It would feel like a hack job without the proper perspective
