I don't know if I like it, but we'll see how it goes.
Either way it doesn't matter if they don't get a good Superman. That should be interesting. |

Supe's almost certainly getting the depower treatment (not rumor, just my thoughts).
Word is Zod will be the villain. Please let it be. |

Superman should not be depowered. That has been rumored I think. Pretty sure I read it somewhere at some point.
Either way depowering Superman is dumb. also if Zod is the Villian there is no need to depower him. |

I like a lesser powered Superman. Some of his stunts in the past were pretty wacky even in comic book terms. He seriously doesn't need to be a demi-god, and it has always been this historic hurdle for writers approaching him. In just about every interview, commentary, character insight: it's hard making drama for a guy who's quasi-unstoppable.
And what's the issue? Even a depowered Superman is still one of the most powerful heroes in any universe (DC, Marvel, whatever). His qualities, in my opinion, lie deeper than the 'bullets bounce off' thing. |

I want my Superman to be a demi-God. Makes him more interesting.
It makes his evitable fail (which will happen somehow in this movie) that much better, because he's not use to losing. How does he handle it losing, and then how will he recover. I love that kind of stuff. |

Crazy stuff through a day. Earthquake in Ecuador, a Tidewave in Hawaii, avalanche in the Himalayas, and then what the hell cleans up an entire oil spill in the gulf cost. Then comes back to the Daily Planet gets shot down by Lois Lane, and misses his deadline for something. Then we find out through the news someone gets shot in Meteropolis that could have easily been stopped if Superman was around. Then something really big happens like Zod or something.
It's a winning formula. |

Not sure how I feel about Zack Snyder. He makes movies that everybody is all "OMG THIS IS GREAT" (300, Watchmen) but then I watch them and they are... I dunno... well made, but forgettable.
Also, Superman does not need to be depowered. Unless you are talking about stuff like flying around the planet and turning back time, and stuff like Super-Hypnotism and Super-Ventriloquism... but he hasn't had those in the comics since the 80s! He should have pretty much the same deal as in the current comic books. |

I think they just need to find the right angle. No need to depower him. They also need to exploit viable foes more.
The movies have never really done justice to any villains other than Lex Luthor. It's always just Luthor and his latest real estate scheme. I think in addition to a good story, people want to see an exciting action movie. Superman can't slug it out with Luthor unless they do the kryptonite suit which they never have. I think Zod or Doomsday allows people to see Supes tear it up the way they've seen other big screen superheroes. I don't think it would be a bad idea to show Superman earn his mantle. Perhaps he shouldn't be so idolized right off the bad. Perhaps he should be feared and misunderstood, and face some human resistance before becoming the savior figure. I don't want to see him de-powered. Through writing you can de-power him without actually de-powering him. You don't have to show off all of his powers or depict them to such extremes, but you also don't have to make a point of taking them away. I'm really happy they chose Zack Snyder though. From the sound of it he has a good approach to the character: Quote:
Visually I think he'll make Superman stand out. I look forward to seeing a different looking movie from the Donner and Singer ones. |

Hey even though spinning the World backwards, and turning back time makes no sense. Dramatically it worked really well. I only care if something works, and not if it makes sense.

Watchmen, on the other hand, I loved. That's what gives me confidence that he's capable of pulling off a brilliant Superman movie, but we'll see. The only thing I'm a bit iffy about is how he's becoming branded as a comic book director. That shouldn't really matter really since it's his career choice, but as a viewer I hope that doesn't cause him to lose sight of what makes a good film rather than a good comic book. |

Some of my favorite Superman stories and moments came from the DCAU and the Finchster 'toons, which both had him fist fighting with robots. It's a Superman I can hang on, and it makes him 'stronger'.
That's me, though. |

I have no problem with Superman fighting Robots.
I do also though really want to see Superman fight a giant monster. That's probably not going to happen though. I'm just worried that this Superman is going to be dark. If the movie has a dark tone to it that's fine, but I don't want Superman himself to be dark. That I'm not a fan of it/ |

I would think they have read pretty much all Superman stories. At the very least the popular ones.
Just look at Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. |

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that the DC Universe Online Role-Playing Game, which was expected to launch in November, has been delayed until early 2011. The DC MMORPG, which has been championed by Jim Lee, is already a late entry into a crowded field.
Anyone who pre-orders the DC MMO game after November 15th will get free beta access one week before launch and will be able to participate in the beta-ending “Battle of the Legends” event. All beta participants will receive a special emblem for their character once the game is underway. Marvel began developing a MMORPG in 2005 only to abandon the effort in 2008 (see “Marvel MMORPG Is History”, before restarting the project with a different developer last year (see “Marvel Tries MMO Again”). |

First Green Lantern trailer is set to come out mid-November. Should be interesting to see how that looks in action. Hopefully it shows a little something.
Lots of comic book movies next summer huh? Cap Am, Thor and Green Lantern but I just saw that X-Men First Class got bumped up a year. 2012 will probably still be the biggest year ever for comic movies. Batman 3, Avengers, Spiderman and Superman reboots? Plus Deadpool and some other things probably. I think 2012 will be the "grand finale" of the comic book movie era. Not that they won't still be made and successful for a long time afterwards, but it might be the peak of the whole phenomenon. |

probably for superhero comic books. wouldn't surprise me if they start tapping the well of less extraordinarily-set books like dmz or 100 bullets or even transmetropolitan. although all three of those would arguably be good mini-series rather than films.

yeah not with any real commitment or gusto though. a history of violence and road to perdition are the two that are jumping out at me but even they weren't heavily marketed as having been based on comic books.

Walking Dead has a tv series starting in a few weeks.
The Sandman was recently reported to be picked up to be turned into a TV series. Fables has been said that a TV series is being made, but news since then has been slim. |

yeah you'll notice that i've posted multiple times in the walking dead's thread, been one of my favourite books for ages.
sandman is still in mega-early developmental stages. gaiman isn't even attached (yet). and the fact that news on fables has been slim kind of reinforces the point. regardless, it's not like they're bending over backwards to develop the non-superhero comics market for tv. preacher has been in various incarnations of development hell for years. in the time that book has been 'maybe/maybe not'-ing as far as tv development is concerned, we've had 10 years of smallville, a failed aquaman pilot, short-lived live action series of birds of prey, justice league and the flash, and early talks and then justified discarding of the graysons. not to mention the slew of animated works on both dc and marvel's parts. can't believe someone couldn't write a decent script for a preacher animated series or something. |

Mayhaps if Walking Dead is really successful it will start a "boom" or comic book based tv-shows.
Y- The Last Man would make a pretty decent show maybe. |
