A History of Violence and Road To Perdition were two of the ones I was thinking of. Also American Splendor, Ghost World, some others I probably can't think of right now.
The most recent would be Red. I suppose Scott Pilgrim, 30 Days of Night, and even 300 aren't really great example of not being "extraordinarily-set" since they have their supernatural elements, but they're also not really superhero comics either. I'm sure others are in development, or that I've completely overlooked. I really wish they'd make Maus. It would probably be computer animated a la Pixar, but it might also be interesting to see it made in the style of Fantastic Mr. Fox |

Preacher will never get made into a movie or series. Not unless it's made outside of the US. There would be riots over that shit.

No it was just a regular novel by Richard Matheson. Great book. I wish any of the movies were as good

Lois as Isis:
One trick Smallville likes to do is have characters possessed by other characters in the DCU to put them on the show with essentially zero production expense. It continues with Lois being possessed by Isis, who plans to do bad things to our heroes. She may or may not be a direct adaption of 52's Isis, who was a big part of Black Adam's issues after Infinite Crisis. |

I'm pretty stoked for this. I loved Under the Red Hood, so I hope DC does as many stricly Batman animated movies as they can. I'm anxious to see if they adapt Hush, Long Halloween or Dark Knight Returns. Year One will be great to see, but seeing it in action doesn't intrigue me as much as some of Batman's other famous stories. Maybe because of how successfully Batman Begins covered much of Year One's material. Bring on the Gordon though |

Timm and his team seem to be the only producers who say they're fans and choose projects and make decisions that fans in their position would make.

And Batman is my favorite comic world/mythology. Yet when I'm asked my favorite comic characters I just say Batman over Jim Gordon.
Probably because I just tend to list the main character and that also includes all of the supporting characters and villains. Hmm |

Just watched Batman/Superman Apocalypse. Batman is probably my favorite hero, but I'm not sure how I feel about him teaming with Superman. I mean he has to fight the same guys Superman does but without any powers and does just fine. It makes it hard to believe he can deal with dudes from Apocalypse and then struggle with any normal criminal in Gotham. It's not really a big deal as they're all very well done, but it just seems like Batman is either super powered or de-powered depending on the circumstances.

Batman is like a God when he is teaming with another hero, or around the JLA.
When he is on his own in Gotham fighting crime, he is just a highly skilled normal man. |

As much as I love the Batman mythos, it really doesn't fit in with the rest of the DC Universe at all. I mean, how exactly does the Justice League sleep at night knowing that there's a city that's literally less than a minute's travel away (for most of them) constantly under siege by psychotic mass murderers and crooked cops and ruthless mob bosses? And while it's true that Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, et al, all have their own problems to deal with in their own cities, it's not like they couldn't take shifts. Batman may be a total control freak and more often than not a massive dickhead to his fellow superheroes, but he'd be an idiot for refusing the kind of super-powered help the JLA could bring.
That's why the more I think about it, the more I kind of wish Gotham would just be retconned out of the regular DC Universe and placed under the Vertigo label or something. Batman's a great hero, but he really only works if he's the only hero in town. |

I think Superman: Earth One is outside of continuity so it's not too bad I guess. Unless they've revamped him in DC proper...

I guess re-designing Supes in "alternate universes" is okay, but I figured redisigning Superman was the type of thing they'd learn about. All it accomplishes is getting a blurb on the evening news and yahoo, and people expressing their distaste for it. Then a decade later a few people say "remember when they tried to revamp Superman?"
I would suspect this will be no different. |

Don't act like it's just Superman in a hoodie. It's been decided upon by DC (and confirmed by them) that it's intended to tap into the Twilight vibe. It's not just the hoody. He's intended to be paler, more brooding, and sport different styles. Not to mention the hairstyle and facial expressions.

Not acting like shit. And none of that 'article' shows that DC's official stance is to get a Twilight vibe. At all. It's just some writer being cute.

You act like it's just Superman in a hoodie though. It's DC trying to do a new take on the character that is overhauled to tap into a current youth trend. Twilight is just an example that comes to mind, but to act like it isn't specifically being tailored to capture that overall market on purpose is ridiculous.

"We wanted to tell a story that's hip, sexy, and moody," - DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio
Hmm, I wonder what he means by that...It couldn't possibly be because that style is what is considered hip, sexy, and moody, and DC wants to make money and capture new fans by tapping into it. |

I also don't blame them for doing so. Just because I don't dig Twilight doesn't mean people don't. It's a risk that makes a lot of sense. But I can't see how you can see this all and not recognize what it is.
