Late Night News Edition:
According to a report from Polygon, Microsoft is currently rumored to be considering purchasing a major gaming company within the near future.
EA, PUBG Corp, and Valve were listed as the likely rumored targets for Microsoft for a potential purchase. In terms of money, a potential purchase of EA would likely cost $7 billion as a minimum and as high as $35 billion based on their net worth. PUGB would be way cheaper at just a few billion dollars. Hardest to purchase would be Valve not because of money but because of how incompatible their workplace philosophy is to Microsoft. https://www.polygon.com/2018/1/29/16...ysis-microsoft https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer...-and-pubg-corp |

Governments everywhere are taking a much closer look at lootboxes as gambling due to the battlefront 2 shit fest. It would have happened whether people went to their governments or not.
I mean the whole thing was inevitable to begin with. It was alsays going to happen eventually . EA's blatant disregard for subtlety just put us on the fast track to it. |

To be fair, the legislator who proposed the bills doesn't actually want them to become law (at least the banning one). He just wants companies to be a lot less reckless and is just using the threat of the government getting involved to get the big changes needed.
Same with other government bodies in Europe leaning more towards the warning labels and making people be a lot more aware of the gambling aspect of lootboxes. If you really want to blame someone, then its shady mobile developers who for years made their micro-transaction systems become more addictive/exploitable which lead to investors wanting gaming companies to do the same which lead to the current lootbox craze. EA's greed with Battlefront II was the fruit of this whole mess. |

loot boxes are unquestionably gambling.
Gambling should legal with no restrictions as long as the gambling party is the owner of the items they risk. Its your property; manage it poorly if you see fit. However a state classifying it as gambling is perfectly reasonable since it clearly is exactly that. |
