Spies in Disguise-7/10
Loaded cast, funny gags and a simple story made it a fu little watch with my kid. Laughed quite a bit. |

Mostly been watching Hong Kong Kung Fu movies lately. Lots of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, sometimes together.
I love Benny Urquidez Vs Jackie Chan in Wheels On Meals. Anybody who likes action, comedy and adventure should watch a lot more Chinese Jackie Chan films. His earlier ones tend to be dubbed with English accents but it adds to the charm in a way. Kung Fu movies of various eras are very distinctive in their own way. Early on it was all like a beautiful ballet but the fighting was softer. Then it jumps to violent but still not convincing because it's too OTT. By the time Jackie Chan had turned to comedy Kung Fu the fights are hard hitting, faster, better choreographed and yet funny too. Then in the 80's all bets were off and American Karate guys kept showing up looking fucking huge at 170lbs against tiny Chinese heroes. |

I keep meaning to re-watch Jackie Chan's Police Story films from the 80s, but have yet to get round to them. I don't think I've seen any of them in nearly 20 years.

I think only two of them are from the 80's, he's knocked out at least two reboots in the last few years too.
I have only seen the first four but the first two are probably his best films. A good mixture of martial arts, stunts and the comedy is turned way down with a proper storyline in place. His Kung Fu comedies are all solid fare but he's an invaluable addition to a well told story that just needs a bit of unabashed physical insanity in it. |

Reservoir Dogs
eh. Seemed a little "cliche" but i guess this movie prolly started the cliche. cool men in suits and sunglasses aren't cool to me. I dont really like tarantino because he seems like a sick fuck. I feel like people probably "gush" over the dialogue in this movie but I dont care. The only part I liked was when they were arguing over which colors they were going to be because that's exactly what preschoolers do when they each get something with a different color |

Tarantino pays homage to obscure, older and cheaper styles of film making using an all star cast and a huge budget so everything he does looks familiar but brand new.

Never Rarely Sometimes Always
Another abortion movie. This ones not fun or fast paced like the last one. Which made it a little better probly. This seems to be a new style of movie, slowly paced and pretty much only following one character with scenes that rarely have more than like 5 lines of dialogue. Theyre not bad, just new |

I've still not seen Midsommar.
It looks a bit silly for me. Triple A highly recommends a short film about incest by the same guy. Says it's freaking hilarious. I can't say I agree but go in with comedy in mind and see where you end up. |

Hereditary was unnerving. Midsommar was different but shared the quality of making the viewer "uncomfortable".

Sister Act & Sister Act 2: Back in Business
Saw these for the first time as a 30 year old male, was pleasantly surprised to see the general plot and premise get yadda yadda'd. Females my age seem to have a lot of nostalgia. I like that all the men in these movies are bumbling idiots 2/5 Blood Diamond - 1 bag of popcorn really really bad. Watched this in World Affairs in high school but never got to see the last third, I guess I thought it would be good but this is a really really bad movie. Leo and Jen.Con do not sizzle at all, at it's best it's just stealing from better movies like hotel rwanda or city of god. Shocked that anyone could think this didnt suck. gratuitous violence and obnoxious strokes of luck at every turn. When I visit Africa I'm going to be constantly afraid of a a convoy of black men in jeeps with shotguns and boomboxes |

Blood Diamond isn't great and it has a pretty stereotypical Afrikaans accent pinned to Leo.
It's not a film you need to see twice. Watch "Safe House" with Ryan Reynolds and Denny Washertosher if you want to hear a fun little S.A accent on a beloved white boy. |

Sandy Wexler
All the Adam Sandler classics showing up in this one. I feel like this movie is made for hollywood people. Netflix really "flexing" their power here. I guess they just had to get everyone together for a dinner which doubled as a movie shoot. Only Adam Sandler can pull off the "bumbling schmuck" character these days. Pretty funny. Good to see Rikishi. Always tell the truth yall |

Teaching Mrs. Tingle
Finally saw this after having the name stuck in my head for 21 years. Love a nice 90's high school movie. I should probably read some of the books the teacher talked about. Dr. Shivago or whatever. |

Project X isn't much like Superbad beyond having a party in it.
Superbad is a great comedy that launched careers and pop culture references. |

How would it even be a disaster bro?
Ant Man replaces Ironman, John Snow replaces Captain America, Alan Tudyk can be somebody too and round it out with Nathan Fillion and any attractive woman. There you have it, the new Avengers. Alan Tudyk's character would have the torso of a man and the lovely legs of a woman and possibly the vagina too, but you'd never really know with a PG13 movie. They could have him constantly putting big cucumbers in his purse though, just to give you an inkling. Nathan Fillion would have a camel's hump and big purple tits and the woman would probably be invisible or something. They'd all spend all of their time saving her because she was so lame. |

Gremlins-7/10
Half horror half comedy. Felt like it couldn't quite find it's tone but it was still a fun watch. Gremlins 2-8/10 Complete goofy satire making fun of itself. Could tell the budget was much higher as well given how high quality the gremlins looked this time around. Plenty of sight gags to behold. The Little Things-6/10 Denzel carries this pot boiler about a sheriff who returns to his old precinct and finds himself helping Rami Malek with a case that might be tied to his last one. I didn't care for Malik honestly. Just didn't buy him in the role. Jared Leto is good as the weirdo who may or may not have dunnit. |

The JK Simmons character was well written but a little bit tired for me. The music was great but I don't like to think too technically about music. If something sounds chill that's fine for me, which was pretty much the antithesis of this movie. Also there was one very big moment which gave the movie's title its double meaning which I feel like should have completely changed the course of the movie, but it was just a plot point

I credit Superbad with "turning around my sense of humour" a bit.... before was v pretentious with my humour, thinking that all modern day comedy sucked and relied on expletives and curse-words.....
But then at college one time between classes was in the college cafe where there was a projector playing the movie... missed all the stuff w/dicks at the start or else I probably would have left... but instead saw from after that and was surprisingly entertained... |
