there is some cultural significance thats lost in the remake where originally both the sharks and the jets are 2nd class citizens where as now only the pueto ricans are held back by racism and the irish are not. its a bit irksome to have this important historical truth scrubbed from the film but i dont think anyone involved was prepared to have an honest conversation about the cultural significance of assimilation so they elected to just have the irish have white privilege instead but whatever. its standard modern perception even if it does an entire culture a disservice.

Tick, Tick... Boom! - 8.5/10
Really enjoyed it.... Garfield was indeed real good, but still slightly annoyed by his ridiculous hair. Talented guy, he needs to switch up his hair if he ever wants to make it to "the next level". |

I thought Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Netflix was fun.
Is it a great movie, no. It is a fun, 80 minute slasher film, yes. Cinematography was good too. 7/10 |

King Richard - 8.5/10
Really surprised by this movie throughout. The quality of acting and script is really high, and the casting is fantastic. I thoroughly expected a typical biopic and this is that in a lot of ways, just a very well made one. Of the movies for best picture I'd say this is the best one I have seen. |

Licorice Pizza - 7.5/10
I am a big Paul Thomas Anderson fan and so when I heard the good reviews for this movie I was excited to watch it. It's a very psychological film in a very easy going way, filled with great characters and a pretty wild but realistic story for the environment it's set in. I think of all the Oscar movies that I've seen this year this will be the one to bear the most rewatches, and may become a classic down the line. Cooper Hoffman is just like his dad, really cool to see him here. I would've given him a nod for best actor to be honest, what a great performance. |

Don't Look Up 4/10
I really didn't like this movie. It's way too long and while there were moments that made me laugh I could hardly get to the end of it fast enough. I have no idea how this movie is getting award recognition much less nominated for best picture. It feels like it was funded by the Elect Bernie Sanders committee or something, super liberal and saturated with covid metaphors. Belfast - 6/10 Another movie that I can't understand the high praise for. I found it boring, unnecessarily black and white, and generally underwhelming across every meter. |

Somewhat uncomfortable viewing. Nicolas Cage gives a fairly understated performance (by Cage's standards). Last edited by El Vaquero de Infierno; 02-23-2022 at 06:46 PM. |

Tick Tick Boom was actually pretty good, I mean it was polished and very well performed but the subject matter is pretty dreadful.
Andrew Garfield should have done a musical about a straight playwright that died of natural causes, then he’d win an Oscar for playing a Broadway minority. |

Much more "subdued" in its action compared to the first two, but I enjoyed it.... am a sucker for history pieces.... |

His House-8/10
Story of 2 refugees trying to earn residency in London and the ghosts of how they got to that point. Really liked it. They handled unraveling the mystery of why these two were being haunted really well and I particularly enjoyed the ending. More so because of what it meant for the characters than what actually happened. |

Prime Nicolas Cage, but the film is oddly devoid of any tension or suspense. |

Wild at Heart 6/10
It tries so hard to be weird and clever, but comes off as amateurish and naff. It remains watchable due to the performances of Nicolas Cage, Laura Dern (an absolute fox), Diane Ladd and Willem Dafoe. |
