Never seen Hamilton but that seems like the Lin-Manuel Miranda way.... catchy songs that I can tap my toes to but ultimately fade from my mind....

Let me tell you from the perspective of the father of a 3.5 year old; those songs do get into your subconscious after multiple watch throughs. Infectious. I’ll often find myself singing “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” at work (she’s singing it right now actually ).
They’re all pretty much “ear worms” for me. Every song. I think it’s been said but the collection of songs is arguably the best of any Disney movie (any movie full stop perhaps). Moana has some great songs (also written by Lin Manuel) but I don’t think the whole set is as strong but it’s not far off. How many times have you seen Moana, Destor? Or was it an instant thing where on one watch those songs were just there? |

Watched 7 Psychopaths last night. 7.5/10. Cool idea. Very quirky. And Colin Farrell tends to shine in more offbeat roles. Sam Rockwell and Chris Walken together were an added chef's kiss, plus Woody was on good form as the baddy.
I can provide better reviews if I'm actually taking notes because right now I'm just pulling from memory. The only thing holding this movie back from a higher rating is there's a certain tone that I wouldn't necessarily call timeless. |

Encanto felt very similar to Moana.
Moana's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, and I'm not a fan of musicals AT ALL. |

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness: 3 and 1/4 stars out of 4
It's dumb. It's fan-servicey. It deals with a subject in which I'm not interested. And I'm sure Sam Raimi directed every action sequence on a random narcotic he pulled out of a bingo tumbler for each day of filming. That said, the heart of this film, like most Marvel films, is with the characters. Their wants. Their goals. Their feelings. Yes, they're dealing with something completely ridiculous and it's not appealing to me but I'm taking this ride with characters I get and that I like. What they do makes sense and it's relatable. It's just being done against a backdrop of craziness and imaginative effects. Like Spider-Man: No Way Home, don't take any of my Negative Nancy-ness to heart. It's a roller coaster that virtually Marvel fanboy and fangirl is going to be giddy about, especially in the second act. Saying anything more will almost dip into spoiler territory so I'll just offer my positive recommendation. Mid-credit and post-credit scenes do exist but the latter is kind of a dumb let down that only calls back to something earlier in the film. |

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness - 6.5/10
This one was profoundly stupid and very entertaining. It’d help if you’ve seen WandaVision and What If? |

Don’t Breathe-7/10
Don’t Breathe 2-6/10 First one is a very tense, claustrophobic home invasion movie that gets wavier as it goes, especially the twist in the third act. There’s no real good guys in this. Just shades of gray characters doing bad things with at least decent or understandable intentions. Second one is still a home invasion movie, but it’s significantly more violent and faster paced but lacking in the tension of the first. But still enjoyable. The Nightingale-8/10 An enslaved Irish woman employs the help an indigenous black man to track down the british military officer and his cronies who took the life of her husband and newborn. The actor who played Billy was stellar. The whole movie was, really, although it got a bit long but had a satisfying ending. The Rental-8/10 Dave Franco directed horror about 2 brothers and their significant others take a vacation at a beach side rental home to unwind. They find out they’re being recorded with hidden cameras, which caught one brother cheating with his brother’s girl, leading to all hell breaking loose. What I liked about this one was mostly the third act where the violence kicks in, because it’s not a happy ending and the question “how do they beat the bad guy” is answered definitively; they don’t. Calibre-8/10 2 childhood buddies venture into the countryside of Ireland to go hunting and up killing a father and son. One on accident and the other out of defense, and attempt to cover it up. Loved the build up to when their awful deed is finally discovered. A good jocote with lots of tension. |

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness - 7.5/10. Another perfectly entertaining, perfectly forgettable movie from the Marvel/Disney factory complex.

The Northman 4/5?
My first trip back to a movie theater in 2 years. And I don't get a complete movie. The wind was whipping outside and made the power flicker. Projector in my theater went out and I guess got fucked up. So they moved me across the way to another empty theater. I think they put me ahead a 5-10 minutes. Regardless, great flick. |

The Northman
violent as hell... good though... didnt need to be able to follow the details of the plot too closely to know what was up. Good twist or two, nice scenery etc, seems insane that ppl used to pillage all the time and take them as slaves Can't Hardly Wait There were like 3 smash mouth songs in this movie and they used the same song for when the ppl kiss that they used in The Office UK... some cheap laffs, 90s stuff is funny to me tho |

The Matrix: Resurrections - 5/10. Easily the worst of the sequels. Just no real story or point to it..... but hey they did a "meta" thing where they acknowledged that it was a pointless sequel so maybe it is just brilliantly self aware.

Looks like the Wachowski sisters did manage to pull the wool over at least one of your eyes. Self awareness is worth nothing when used to acknowledge stunning mediocrity. I suppose “The Matrix: Resurrections” is to “The Matrix” as The Wachowski sisters are to the former Wachowski brothers - a fucking terrible remake. We know it cost a lot but we ain’t happy about how it was spent. |
