Exactly, wrestling has been stagnating for years. People have lost interest and basically any big sporting event is going to draw a bigger crowd, especially when you consider most casual WWE fans are also fans of basketball, football, etc.

Honestly I think it's just that all these "anti-IWC" people want something to blame so they choose to look for any correlation between IWC darlings and bad ratings. Thing is correlation =/= causation. Like you said the sky's been falling for a while and people are only acknowledging what they want to acknowledge so as not to hurt their own world views.

Fact is bad booking and writing is what's killing wrestling, not the IWC, and not the prototypical guys either. WWE has just failed miserably at building new stars so when they can't book the Rock or Lesnar they can't get people to tune in.

With so much great television out there now there's really no excuse for shows to suck. WWE can coast a little on name value but honestly if WWE didn't have such a vast background there's no way it would succeed at all in today's atmosphere.

I'd argue the main issues actually started at Wrestlemania:

Andre the Giant Battle Royal Winner? Big Show
IC Ladder Match Winner? Daniel Bryan.
Orton vs Rollins Winner? Orton
Cena vs Rusev Winner? Cena
Undertaker vs Wyatt Winner? Undertaker
Parties involved in the most talked about segment? Rock, Triple H, Stephanie, and celebrity.

Apart from the Main Event, the only folks who won matches at this year's Mania that had an established act or a part timer in it was the established act or the part timer. That talked about segment, as much as I love the Rock, featured Rhonda Roussey and 3 folks who have been established for over 15 years. Even the IC Title Ladder match was won by the most established guy in the match. And as much of a fan as I am of Daniel Bryan, that did NO ONE any good because he's injured again. Why should I, as a casual fan, give a shit about these new guys?

Very good point. If new guys never win they can never become established, and if they never become established they'll never be able to pull in ratings. It's a vicious cycle. WWE is afraid to put the new guard into these positions because they don't want the ratings to tank, but then because they don't put them there they never will ascend to that level.

Also, it's funny that Russo and others are bringing up Zayn and Ambrose when the main event was Orton vs Reigns, two guys that are considered to be the epitome of what WWE's "casual" audience wants.

I'm not trying to defend the internet darlings or anything, nor am I saying Zayn and Ambrose are going to be the next big things, but how can people seriously act like they had any real impact on the ratings at all?
WWE has always struggled a bit when it comes to sports and big events happening whenever their shows are also going on. Even during the Attitude Era, sports dominated the ratings war.

Bigger issue last year and this year so far is they have been reaching record-type level of lows for their shows regardless if it was competing with big sports games or not that week. Points to the bigger problem being the shows themselves rather than certain wrestlers as the real cause for their woes.

Russo's reasoning on blaming those guys is likely because the WWE will put the full blame on them instead of their handpicked stars like Orton and Reigns also taking some blame. Happened with Ryder in the past and countless times where Cena got rushed right back to the main focal point of shows even though he was also a cause for the drops.

It's partially the Godawful writing and partially the fact that they don't know who to push to appeal to more than just a vocal minority (Though I guess those ideas are intertwined... But one feeds into the failure of the other). There are certain guys who couldn't draw even if the booking were halfway decent.

Well of course there are. That goes without saying. Erick Rowan would never work as a top guy no matter how well you booked him. That said people are underestimating what good booking could do over a prolonged period of time. Anyone with a decent amount of talent could draw amazingly well with the right booking and effort put in. I'm not saying a Heath Slater could out-draw a Cena no matter how the booking was stacked, but when you're dealing with guys with no investment like Reigns, Rollins, Ambrose, etc booking matters far more than anything else. A well booked and advertised Rollins or Ambrose would draw far better than a badly booked and advertised Reigns. With that being the case just imagine how well they could do in the ratings if they booked all three well. Good booking and advertising will always trump everything else so long as you've got someone with even a decent amount of talent to focus it on. If you can get someone with the whole package, well, that's just icing on the cake.

looks like we're finally getting an Owen Hart dvd set

http://www.wrestlingdvdnews.com/wwe-...mentary/87400/

Here at WrestlingDVDNews.com we are proud to exclusively announce today, on what would have been his 50th birthday, that WWE is currently hard at work planning a biographical DVD and Blu-ray release on the life and career of Owen Hart!

The years of bad blood and ill feeling between WWE and Owen’s widow, Martha Hart, have been well documented and naturally led wrestling fans to believe that Owen’s wrestling career being honored was something they would likely never see…. until now!

Sadly, as you know, the wrestling world suffered a great loss in 1999 when Owen tragically died during the Over the Edge PPV in Kansas City, Missouri. What followed in the subsequent near 15 year period was a slew of litigation between Martha Hart and the company.

However, we have learned that not only is this Owen Hart WWE DVD/Blu-ray project going ahead, it is going ahead with the full backing and support of Martha and his family.

A documentary is in the works for the main feature of the set. Earlier this month WWE released a YouTube clip titled “Inside The Hart Family Dungeon” which included some new interview footage with Bret Hart. Right now that’s speculated to be a snippet of a longer interview conducted with Bret, quite possibly shot for the purpose of the Owen Hart documentary.

On a day where we normally look back at the legacy of Owen Hart, today we as wrestling fans can now look forward to seeing his wrestling legacy honored. Finally.

Happy Birthday Owen Hart!

Some have expressed to friends they believe the company is all but dead when they got the word the tour was cancelled. TNA had never publicly announced it, but guys had been told it was on until just a few days ago. A lot of guys are putting out feelers to other promotions, but there's really not a lot of options except for GFW and ROH, with Lucha Underground shut down for now. The talent that has contacted WWE has been told that WWE is not interested in anyone from TNA, even if they would be willing to go to a tryout camp. There is a June camp but some have been told outright that it would be a waste of time to even ask for a spot, because that's the current mentality. Others have contacted AAA, but they aren't looking for new foreign regulars. A lot of talent just found out about the 6/28 PPV date, even though it had been reported for week, and others said they knew but thought it was bad they read about it weeks before the company told them

Another person noted that if she was savvy politically on this subject she’d have gone out of her way to praise White, not because White got women over but because the nicer they are to him, the more likely they’ll get to complete their angle. Then again, I don’t rule out the possibility they have a deal in place and White was kayfabing for them so as not to have it be public knowledge before they shoot an angle later in the year.

Regarding the 2014 movies, “Scooby Doo! WrestleMania Mystery” cost the company $1.2 million and it has already generated $2.2 million. They project another $400,000 in future revenue from the movie and they project in the end they will turn a $1.4 million profit on it. “Oculus” cost the company $3 million and they project losing $1.3 million on it. “Road to Paloma” is projected to lose $100,000. “Leprechaun” Origins” cost the company $1 million and has generated $300,000 in revenue, but they projected in the end it will turn a $100,000 profit. “See No Evil 2" cost $1.1 million and has generated $100,000 in revenue thus far, but they have not projected how much it will earn or lose yet. “Jingle All the Way 2" cost the company $1.6 million and there is no projection on how well it will do. “The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age Smackdown” cost the company $900,000 and there is no estimate on how well it will do
Aparently the WWE seriously bungled the Oculus film deal to the point that the other studios involved took almost all of the $44 million it made while covering the least in production costs.

Regarding the “Curb Stomp” finishing move used by WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, it appears that it is not completely banned. The word going around within WWE is that the move is “on hold” until WWE’s concussion lawsuits are gone, or are no longer an active threat.

According to PWInsider.com, top WWE NXT star Hideo Itami is out of action with a bad shoulder injury.

As of now, Itami is scheduled to compete in a triple threat match against Tyler Breeze and Finn Balor at the upcoming Takeover special, however it is expected Itami will be pulled from the match as he is likely to be out of action for 6-8 months.

Sami Zayn's RAW match with WWE United States Champion John Cena this week was laid out, with Bret Hart's involvement, for Zayn to lose but get over as a big star in front of an audience where it was considered a lock that they would react in a big way for him.

This was not meant to be Zayn's full-time debut on the main roster but he was scheduled to wrestle on this week's SmackDown. Due to the injury suffered at RAW, SmackDown had to be re-written without the former NXT Champion.

Last month, we heard the unfortunate news of legendary wrestler and promoted Verne Gagne passing away at 89. He's widely considered among the most important men in the business, and responsible for the training of major names in the business as well.

His funeral was held last week in Minnesota, with eulogies by his son Greg Gagne, and former employee "Mean" Gene Okerlund. Unfortunately, it seemed as if things went downhill from there.

During the eulogy being delivered by Greg Gagne, the Wrestling Observer says that Backlund interrupted and started cutting a heel promo. It was said to be "ridiculously out of place."

Each match is going to have 15 minute time limit with 5 minutes of overtime if necessary.

Canek and Hermanos Dinamita shall be judges, they will choose the best match and best wrestler.

The show will be transmitted via iPPV in english with Matt Striker & Vampiro and in spanish. Still no information about cost.

AAA also confirmed that CMLL rejected the invitation to participate in the tournament (which would also mean that NJPW rejected the invitation too, since they have a great working relationship with CMLL)

“Vince barely sleeps. He will outwork anybody I’ve ever met. He’s built an empire and worked his ass off to do it. No one ever handed him anything. The vision and the guts that he’s had – I can’t say enough about the guy. I have total respect for him."

Quote:
In a recent shoot interview, Bill DeMott makes it perfectly clear that he feels that the complaints that led to his resignation were sour grapes from a group of individuals who blamed him for their own failings and weren't willing to work hard for the WWE superstardom that they craved ...

Knowing DeMott personally, Russo strongly believed that his problems were caused by having to pamper and kowtow to his students opening up a whole can of worms where they felt free to make false complaints against their teacher, which was a perception DeMott was willing to help foster by going on a rant about today's millennial generation that Vince McMahon would be proud of:

"I always use the term it's never the quarterback, it's the coach. We talk about football and a guy will stink the joint out, so it wasn't Tony Romo, it was the other guy and he was gone. Millennials, I think right that's what this generation is called the millennials. I think it's in the whole world. So what I can say and what I will say is as a dad as you are, as I am, I try to figure that out to keep my children away from that entitlement. I guess it's old school that you get what you earn and you try to earn what you want. I think that's all I am going to say about that because I think no matter what the case, Walmart, Publix, IBM, I always use IBM I don't know why, I go to a lot of management seminars and that's a lot of the conversation, the opening conversation: 'What do we do when they don't like that?' And I want to walk out because I'm not going to learn anything if I'm still trying to figure out [that]. It's tough, it's going to be tough for whoever has to figure out what they want tomorrow. And that's a challenge I think."
From a recent interview Bill Demott had with Vince Russo. Recap of the full interview from CageSideSeats http://www.cagesideseats.com/2015/5/...s-coachs-fault

Some other sheet news includes:
  • Mexican promotion and biggest rival to AAA, CMLL recently lost its tv deal while CMLL officials are in no hurry to get a new deal done (nor really care about it).
  • Zack Ryder recently got a sponsorship deal with Fuel.
  • Destination America is currently rumored to be regretting signing a multi-year deal with TNA. Haven't been happy with their return on the money spent to get TNA and even dropped all the new TNA shows that were meant to be added as part of the deal.

Sheets sponsored by an announcement from His Royal Bad Newsness:

Remember everyone being happy about the news of a Owen Hart dvd being in the works. Well I'm afraid I've got some bad news ...

Martha Hart didn't give approval for the DVD set to be made nor was ever contacted by the WWE for approval. Could end up getting scraped or delayed if she decides to take any legal action against it.

“My children and I were unaware of this project until May 7, when it was brought to our attention by a friend who had read about it online. Contrary to your report, we do not back or support it in any way, nor has WWE requested our backing or support. From what little we know of the project, it seems to be another attempt to exploit Owen’s memory, and his tragic death, for commercial gain. We have resisted that kind of initiative for almost 16 years. If WWE really wanted to honor Owen’s legacy, it would just let him rest in peace.”

Now back to your regular dirtsheets stuff:

For those who missed Steve Austin's Extra Mustard interview this week, the WWE Hall of Famer is teasing some big announcements but would not reveal if it has to do with pro wrestling or entertainment. Austin said: "I have a couple of things that will be announced within the next two-to-four weeks. When you hear those, you'll say, 'That's why he couldn't talk about those, I get it.' But they're really good. It will be a major press announcement."

The MSG Network is currently producing a special that will cover the first WrestleMania. The target release for the special is late 2015, and the channel has contacted several performers from the show to participate.

SPOILER: show
Bully Ray is the former champ returning. Velvet Sky and Bobby Lashley also expected to be returning as well for the show.

WWE filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit Doug Gilbert and the estate of Eddie Gilbert filed, according to PWInsider. The motion adds that WWE "invested heavily" in obtaining, producing and distributing the footage, "without which the works alleged in Plaintiffs' Complaint would not exist. Gilbert was alleging that WWE and ESPN were using his likeness without his permission. WWE also pointed to cases from Doug Somers and Steve Ray as previous lawsuits that didn't work out in court. ESPN has filed a similar motion.

WWE officials have not decided on the new NXT name for Uhaa Nation yet. This is why no name was used on his vignette that aired on Wednesday's episode, according to F4Wonline.com.
Was some speculation that he'd get to keep his name when a new name wasn't mentioned or teased by Regal.

The Young Bucks are reportedly the target of all three major non-WWE promotions. The Wrestling Observer reports that TNA is “making a big play” for the team, while Lucha Underground is planning to try and lure them over when they get the green light for a second season.

Meanwhile the Young Bucks work several dates a year for ROH, but the company wants to get them into a more exclusive deal. The team previously turned down a “low-ball” offer from WWE last year.

WWE Superstar Xavier Woods appeared on the PodNasty Wrestling Podcast and down below is an excerpt from the interview in which Woods talked about the New Day gimmick, not getting over as babyfaces and more.

"We had a couple of different schools of thoughts. We thought this would occur, that people would be into it, because it's maybe one of the only positive things on television, because you turn on the news and there's death, murder, car crashes and everything.

"Here's a positive thing with three guys, all college educated, all college athletes, all very eloquent so we'll preach a positive message like 'do well in life and go to school, make sure you work out you could be big and strong like E, make sure if you stretch a lot you can be flexible and agile like Kofi and make sure if you read your books you could be smart like Woods.' And then we realized after a few months it turned into 'people don't like those who are happy.'

"So it's kind of like a play on society, essentially, people of American society. Back in the 80s, if someone's happy, someone's doing well, someone's getting hardships, you cheered for that person.

"But now it's 2015, and they don't like that. They want someone who's grimy and who doesn't like people and who doesn't smile and isn't happy and wants to punt a puppy across a football field. If that happened, people would be watching and it would get 3 million views on YouTube because it's something that's horrible so essentially society has created this thing where people like to see car wrecks, and they want to see a hot mess and they want to see a fall from grace. So if you don't have those things people are going to boo you because that's not entertaining to them, they want to see a mess, they want to see somebody fall on the sidewalk and bust their lip on the ground. They don't like nice things."

Date corresponds to an upcoming house show in Philly and possibly him using the Balor persona for the occasion.

If Triple H could put aside his ego and his dislike for a person and focus on business then I think it could probably be a lot better. For example, I don't think he was a big fan of Zack Ryder"
From a recent interview JTG had with WrestlingNews dealing with a variety of topics like Cryme Tyme, Creative being bad in general, and no desire to return to the WWE in the future. http://wrestlingnews.co/exclusive-jt...76556396484375
