So, rags to riches, a pop-culture icon, and a tragic end? Sounds like Simmons has the perfect subject on his hands. Richard Johnson of Page Six reports that 30 for 30 director Jonathan Hock has followed Bill Simmons “out the door from ESPN,” and there have been some rumblings that, like the recently shuttered Grantland before it, the popular sports documentary series is floundering since its creator, Simmons, departed.

I tend to believe WWE on this one, because the negotiations started right after his Lucha Underground deal fell apart. The timing made me think he was going to them, not them to him, and if that's the case, the downside wouldn't be as high. But saying that contradicts people who had been kept abreast of the situation, who claim Paul Levesque called him first. I do know that it was an issue within WWE because the doctrine is that nobody gets more than a $1 million downside guarantee (although Brock Lesnar got far more, and guys like John Cena or possibly Undertaker may– but the belief is that the Randy Orton types are getting a $1 million downside, but end up earning far more than that).
Would have made a bit more with Lucha Underground for less days had he taken their deal but the bonuses and merch sales likely pushed him towards taking the WWE deal for less downside and more dates.

New Japan strongly encouraged them to sign the deal because they knew how hard they were working on the indies and didn't want them to get hurt by working so many dates. Plus, since they work with ROH, both sides will be able to coordinate the dates. They are supposed to also do a ten week minimum with New Japan on a separate deal . Essentially, between the two, they are guaranteed more money than they've ever earned before and will be working considerably less dates. The PWG aspect of the deal was something they insisted on, and they also get to keep their merchandising rights and Pro Wrestling Tees business. Nobody else under ROH contract, even those with non-exclusive deals, are allowed to be affiliated with Pro Wrestling Tees.
Part of a new plan by parent company Sinclair to help boost ROH with extra funding than usual when needed. Budget also going to go up gradually over the next couple of years to help ROH more.

Was implied the ROH-NJPW deal played a bit in a role why ROH dropped all remaining ties with AAA. NJPW has a working deal with CMLL only and ROH wpuld have had some scheduling issues with upcoming events if they sent guys to both Mexican promotions and NJPW.

That's why even with Raw's ratings decline this year, it is at this point more important for USA to keep Raw than it would have been two years ago when Raw's numbers were higher, because USA is dropping at a far greater pace than its competition. While Raw always helped, until two years ago, USA would have been No. 1 even without Raw. Now they aren't No. 1 even with three hours of Raw and would be an also-ran without it.
RAW managed to become more valuable to USA not because it was doing good but instead USA's new shows haven't been able to maintain the viewership nor ratings the previous shows did for them. Big reason why RAW can get away with the declining numbers since USA has nothing at the moment worthy to replace it.

Some other sheet news includes:
  • Bayley recently debunked rumors on Twitter about her getting a new theme song due to her recent house show match in Ireland. Said it was her choice to mix it up for the tour.
  • Based on recent house show reports in the UK and WWE's own website, Damien Sandow got repackaged back to his original Intellectual Savoir gimmick (or something very similar to it). Image from recent house show event http://i.imgur.com/2jGGsMv.jpg
  • For those going to the WWE UK tour shows, it was announced Big Show has replaced Seth Rollins for tour appearances. Wrestled against Kane for the recent show in Cardiff, Wales.

The last two weeks of Raw on hulu has far and away been two of the best shows they've produced. The 1.5 hour runtime keeps everything focused and condensed. Much more enjoyable than trying stomach three hours.

According to sources, WWE is likely to be calling in some “very big names” to appear on TV now that Seth Rollins is out for up to nine months with a knee injury. The timing of the injury is particularly bad with John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton and other big names on hiatus for various reasons, which could lead to WWE bringing in some major names.

It wasn’t noted if these “big names” would be for RAW or scattered throughout the coming weeks until Survivor Series, or even for Survivor Series itself. A report yesterday suggested that, Sting should he be healed up from his injuries and able to return to the ring, Sting might be used for Survivor Series in Undertaker and Kane’s expected match with the Wyatts so that is always a possibility.
Hey guys, remember in 1996 when WWE lost most of it's big names for WCW? Remember that?

Remember when they had, maybe about three big stars. What did they do? They made new stars!!! Remember that? Remember when mid-carders like "The Ringmaster", Rocky Maivia, Mankind and Hunter Hurst Helmsley become huge stars and ratings were through the roof and people were super excited by these fresh, young faces?

Why are WWE so determined not to do that now?

Ratings are low enough as it is. Whatever "big names" they bring in won't help matters. It's a short-term solution to a long-term project.

The heel is either going to have to win the tournament, or be the key opponent for whoever wins the tournament. So the choices are Kevin Owens, Big Show, Braun Strowman, or turning a face like Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler or Dean Ambrose.

The plan going into 2016's WrestleMania season was for Reigns to be champion.

No word yet on how those plans for Reigns will factor into the Survivor Series tournament to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Observer had speculated Rollins vs HHH would have been the title match for Mania 32 with Triple H winning the Rumble and being the face in that match.

You could put Ryback in or Cesaro in. But Cesaro seems like he's programmed with Stardust. Bryan is always out there if he's cleared. The New Day's tag title opponents look to be the Lucha Dragons (who won the four-way for the shot last week but then got destroyed on Smackdown this week by the Wyatts) and/or the Usos (who returned and beat the New Day for two falls in an elimination match on Raw). Other matches probable are Ziggler vs. Breeze, and Del Rio vs. Swagger for the U.S. title.
Observer earlier speculation on a possible card for Survivor Series prior to Rollins injury messing up things.

Troy Hughes of 105.3 THE FAN Dallas/Ft. Worth interviewed WWE Hall of Famer "Stone Cold" Steve Austin at last night's WrestleMania Pre-Sale Party at AT&T Stadium. Austin talked about this weekend's Cowboys vs. Eagles NFL game, as well as Seth Rollins getting injured and being out of action for 6-9 months.

Austin talked being forced out of action during his hot run and noted that it allowed The Rock and Triple H - who he noted were already stars on the rise - to really break out. With Rollins being out, Austin noted that it's "bad and sad" that Rollins got hurt, but it creates opportunities for talent.

"These guys in waiting that have been thinking if they had a shot, now is their chance to seize that opportunity," Austin said. "It's sink or swim now, and they're going to get an opportunity that they normally wouldn't have had coming."

  • Newest episode of Botchamania was released recently: https://vimeo.com/144516107
  • WWE has edited Rollins out of all current Mania 32 advertising with Ambrose currently as his replacement.
  • In a "WWE Did You Know" type fact, 4 out of the last 5 WWE title champions had their reign end without being pinned or submitted (Orton - Bryan pinned Batista, Bryan - relinquished due to injury, Cena - lost by pin, Brock - Rollins pinned Reigns, Rollins - relinquished due to injury). 5 out of the last 6 if Bryan's earlier title win is counted (stripped of the belt).

Because right now their backs are not against the wall. It's kind of like the deal with World of Warcraft and Blizzard, the product is sinking like a stone but other areas are making money so why risk anything new.

Who can they feed to Reigns that can be seen as a credible threat and not tarnish their value? Only one I can see at the moment is Sheamus..

Reigns wins tourney, Sheamus cashes in and wins and Reigns chases and eventually prevails. It is probably a shit choice but I would not waste Owens or Ambrose. Ceasaro, Ziggler, and Ryback are just not seen as champions and a another feud with Wyatt or anyone in his stable seems pointless right now as they seem to be slated for Taker and Kane.

Sheamus.
Fucking Sheamus.

Feel like Cesaro could totally pull off the sharply dressed, rich, narcissistic heel that thinks he's better than everybody else. Like, thats his niche. His performance that pushes him from great hand to top talent.

I've been critical of cesaro's mic work but sometimes all it takes is the right gimmick to bring someone's strengths to the forefront. I've seen little signs in the past that tell me this could be that gimmick for cesaro.
