John Wayne was a hack and a phony. Makes sense.

John Wayne was an actor and far from a hack. Have you watched his entire back catalogue from 1940 onwards?
This is an argument I’m very prepared for. |

I was going to do a big John Wayne post and I probably still will because I just spent most of my year watching Westerns and he has been a beacon of hope in that time. More trustworthy than any man to make a watchable Western.
How fucking dare you. |

“Rio Bravo” and “The Sons Of Katie Elder” must be seen, as must “True Grit” and “The Shootist”.
John Wayne was a great actor from 1959 onwards. His earlier stuff is more formulaic and boorish but he makes up for it by being incredibly visual. He looks fantastic in everything he ever did. I like to fall asleep watching his old B-movie westerns nowadays. He has way more shitty old b movies than he has classics, the man earned his place. John Wayne is one of my heroes, along with the inescapably talented Burt Lancaster. Great men in a great time. I wish now was then. |

I'll never watch one. I've also never heard the song "Sweet Caroline" which I've learned drives some people mad. |

Over the past couple of days, I've watched through Special Ops: Lioness.
If I'd known it was a Taylor Sheridan series, I would have gotten to it quicker. Another quality programme from Sheridan. I wouldn't mind seeing a second season; I think there are legs for more stories, though perhaps not with the Cruz character. On a related note, what the hell has Nicole Kidman done to her face? She is only 56 and she is unrecognisable. |

Just lesbian sex. I'm not sure if that is a kink, but the characters doing it seemed to be straight. Bi-curious perhaps.

I’ll start “Justified” before my holiday ends. I was very excited by the promotion and the subsequent reviews. I just love the character and the writing, but a huge part of the original was the cast. I’ll just have to trust it.

I saw Arcane on Netflix and thought it was pretty good. Having never played League of Legends, I was glad how accessible the show was.

That was good but my fav episode was "Bad Day" starting off so low key and continuing to ramp up each minute.

Re: Justified Primeval. Boyd Holbrook as Clement Mansell fills Walton Goggins’ shoes quite admirably.

Boyd Holbrook is another movie star destined to dominate whatever TV he picks up, that’s why. He didn’t take off like he should have either. Good parallels but sort of sad ones. You get more for your money with tv so I can’t complain.

I finished the second season of Foundation last night. I didn't think it was as good as the first season, but still entertaining.
I also recently finished re-watching the first season of Lost in Space. I remember really enjoying it the first time round, but on the second go it ended up being used as background noise. I'm now on to the second season, which I haven't seen. I've decided to go a bit old school and I'm watching the first season of the 80s series, Robin of Sherwood. It is probably the best adaptation of Robin Hood, being grittier than other incarnation, along with its use of atmosphere and pagan mythology. Its from the 80s, so there is a certain level of cheese involved, but if you can get past that, the series is a must-watch. I have also begun the second season of Good Omens. |

Lol the last episode of justified city primeval was something else. Almost a practice in unbridled camp and they were so on the nose with some of the foreshadowing that you can basically call everything. Still fun and the very last bit of it was a good romp but I can’t help but feel it was a bit rushed and rote.

"When people are accusing me of being quote-unquote 'woke' for Sandman stuff that I wrote 35 years ago, I-- it's like, 'Well, yes,'" Gaiman said in an interview with Times Radio. "I remember when instead of calling it 'woke,' they called it 'politically correct.' And then you talk about 'political correctness gone mad.' And I remember once reading a book where they started talking about political correctness and the fact that you could no longer make jokes about people's ethnicity or religion in the same way. And I thought, well, actually, that's just-- that's not 'political correctness.' That's just 'treating other people with respect.'"
