Three episodes in to Scott Pilgrim Takes Off...
Seems to be going in a really different direction... if I wasn't already familiar with the original, might be confusing... feels like a "What If" show... |

I mean, it might be the greatest scene ever. But it's simultaneously the worst thing I ever watched.

Finished the show today... though it was gonna be just an animated adaptation of the original story but it is very much a sequel/multiverse/What If thing.... original movie/story knowledge pretty much mandatory

Finished season 3 of Succession. Still sooooooo good. Bring the fourth and final season on, son!
Roman sending a dick pic to Logan was priceless. |

Got to the 3rd season of Yellowstone over break. Exceptionally well done show, loving every episode. It's become one of those shows which seems like they are over quickly because they're so good you don't realize you've been watching it so long.

Somehow L to the OG was more cringe than that for me. But mannnnnnnnn was that an expertly crafted sequence. I shrivelled on Roman's (and his penis's) behalf.

Midway through Star Trek: TNG season 6.... so I started to watch Star Trek: DS9 alongside it, since that is when it started. Problem is that I guess TOS and TNG were both "remastered" at some point, while DS9 was not... so visually just looks terrible and fuzzy

DS9 only gets really good towards the end of season 2. And it's pretty blech until then. But then all of a sudden it becomes one of my favourite shows ever.

That's kind of why I started it beside TNG, so that by the time I only have DS9 left it will be better.

Like most Star Trek series, DS9 doesn't really get going until season 3. Until then, you have the lovely Jadzia Dax to admire.

As the series also has a lot of non-Starfleet characters, I find from a character standpoint, DS9 is superior to the other shows. Quark and Garak are gold.

Garak is a favourite all time character for me, nvm star trek. In the Pale Moonlight is a fucking masterpiece.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves is shaping up to be just shy of eternal greatness but right up there with the best intentioned and well realised efforts in the TV western genre.
It is not 1883, but it isn’t over yet. It is easily 3.5/4. I hope this spawns a bunch of “Lawmen:” type series. So many great historical figures to choose from. Maybe we’ll get lucky and Taylor Sheridan will do Hickock some justice. Only “Deadwood” dared attempt it, and a worthy claim it has to best ever representation. |

Damb at this early episode of DS9 with an airborne virus and quarantine being enforced.... but then despite being airborne ain't nobody using masks, not even the doctors and nurses working directly with the infected...

Finished Succession.
A top-drawer series that has restored my faith that smart shows with complex characters and great stories still exist, and not all have succumbed to 'The Message' and the poor, lazy writing that comes with it. Let there be more shows like Succession! |

Watch “Barry” now if you haven’t seen it.
You’ll understand my reasoning when you get there. |

I'm into the early episodes of the final season of Billions, and I still need to finish season 3 of Peaky Blinders.
I will put Barry on the list. |

I finished the final season of Billions. It was rather 'blah.' The ending and the defeat of Michael Prince was just too neat and convenient. Just lazy.
I tried to watch season 2 of Loki, but I was bored after the first episode and haven't returned. I tried Barry, as suggested by Seanny, but I wasn't feeling it. I've started re-watching the sci-fi series, Defiance, and I still have season 3 of Peaky Blinders to finish. |

It's interesting--Koppelman and Levien wrote Rounders which is a classic for guys like us. Dunno if it's like a masterpiece but definitely a highly revered movie of our formative years. I guess where I'm getting is I wonder if Billions would've been better and less an over-the-top piece of shit if it was just a mini-series or movie. I don't wanna give the wrong idea here. I loved watching it, even after Damian Lewis left. Giammati does a lot with the silliness and I can watch him all day as Chuck "named after Dusty" Rhoades. It's just...season 7 was kinda like, "whoa was it actually this insufferable the whole time?" Also, I think Succession coming out during Billions's run really made it look bush league as fuck. Filet mignon versus a Happy Meal cheeseburger. It basically just becomes Suits, which also sucks. Last edited by Ol Dirty Dastard; 12-15-2023 at 10:13 AM. |

Reacher season 2 is out, which is just in time to take over from “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” which finishes this weekend.
Reacher is a great shit, it isn’t trying to be a smart show just a well done piece of escapism. Alan Ritchson looks even bigger this year. |

The dialogue is so painfully expository at times that I’m glad the action is so tremendous. It’s pretty tongue in cheek but at the same time no amount of nods and winks to the audience can overcome the slog that is the interplay between characters at times.
The best thing about the books is the lack of dreary dialogue, it’s mostly just paragraphs of description but I suppose that would make for a terribly dull show. |

I'm leaving 'Lawmen: Bass Reeves' for Xmas or the New Year.
I'll wait until all the episodes for season 2 of 'Reacher' are out before watching it. Season 5 Part 2 of 'Yellowstone' is not out until November 2024, which sucks arse. I watched the second episode of 'Barry,' and I liked it more this time round. Therefore, I'll continue checking it out from time to time. Though, it might just be because I find the blonde woman attractive that I'm inclined to give it another go. |

Just watching Reacher drown a guy in cement there and I’m thinking “get some information out of him first” but no, no he just drowns him dead. Straight away he says “We should have kept one alive”.

Anyway, I'm all caught up and have to wait until November 2024 for the next half of the season. They left on some big fucking cliff hangers too. Outstanding show. I'd watch it over from the start again. Started Lawmen Bass Reeves. 3 episodes in, and it's amazingly well told. Great show already. |

I've watched the first episode of Lawmen: Bass Reeves. I'm feeling it, and I want more.
I'm also three episodes into a mini-series, The English, which is another revisionist western. I like it, even though Emily Blunt's character is a borderline Mary Sue; Blunt's performance pulls it off for the most part. It is not up there with 1883 or the above Bass Reeves (even though I've only watched one episode thus far), but for Seanny and anyone else looking for more western fare, you might want to check it out. |

I've finished Bass Reeves.
It's not up there with 1883; I felt it lost its way in the latter stages, and had some sub-plots that were either underdeveloped or went nowhere. However, I still enjoyed it. David Oyelowo was great in his role, as was Barry Pepper. |

You are right about it growing increasingly directionless towards the end. There is a sub plot involving the daughter that dead ends in the strangest way with absolutely no resolution and the ending had me annoyed that so much history was set aside so they could do the old Mandingo/Django red herring. It was still very good though, you have to give the credit to Oyelowo for it.

Finished Star Trek: TNG Season 6, and Star Trek: DS9 Season 1.
On to the next! Was "great" seeing the two part S6/S7 TNG season finale/premiere... brought back lots of "memories" of being a hyped up kid watching it... |

Didn't realize Archer season 14 was on (Canada) Netflix. Watched the full season in 3 sittings. For the ups and downs the show has gone through during the "coma seasons", I always have enjoyed the show. Jessica Walter's sendoff at the end of season 12 was done really really well. I thought this season was pretty good. The last episode seemed a bit anticlimactic but apparently there's a 3-episode "finale event" called Into the Cold that I guess concludes things even after the 8 episode season. Going to have to wait for that to show up on Netflix or just stream it somewhere else. Gotta see how that shit all ends up.
In a similar note, been slow-burning the last season of Letterkenny. Just finished episodes 4 and 5 last night. Not sure I am emotionally ready for the finale that we'll likely watch tonight. |

OH ALSO watched Pokemon Concierge on Netflix and I didn't even know what it was until it showed up on the "just released" or whatever and it is the most adorable thing of all time and the best thing Pokemon has ever done. Shame it is only 4 episodes but I highly recommend to anyone who has a soul at all and if you don't like it I hate you
