It's the next big 'event', Marvel's saying it's as ambitious as Civil War. Details are otherwise thin.

Marvel already has a Scarecrow. Who is basically a rip of DC's Scarecrow and Ragdoll characters.

Marvel announced its Summer 2011 crossover event at a press conference at Midtown Comics on Tuesday. Fear Itself will premiere with a special extra-long prologue issue in March, followed by a seven issue miniseries launching in April.
Crossovers and special series will be at Secret Invasion scale, with miniseries and storylines in ongoing series tied to the main series. The prologue (with a story at roughly 45 pages) will be written by Ed Brubaker with art by Scot Eaton. The Fear Itself miniseries will be written by Matt Fraction, with art by Stuart Immonen. Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada promised that the series would be in a real world context in which “fear, above all else, seems to be the great motivator.” “It feels like there’s this great shadow over all of us,” Quesada said, “and reason and discourse have taken a back seat to fear.” The storyline will feature Marvel heroes vs. the god of fear. Tom Brevoort, who’s helming the event, promised that, “At whatever level you choose to buy in, hopefully we’ve built this in such a way that you’ll get a fulfilling experience.” |

The actor playing Spider-Man (or his stunt double) fell into an open pit at the end of the stage near the end of the performance of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark on Monday night, according to the New York Times. The fall was followed by a woman screaming and sobbing, according to a witness who spoke to the Times. The performance was halted and the injured actor was taken away in an ambulance “for observation,” according to a statement from the production.
Some equipment fell into the audience when the actor’s fall occurred, according to the report. The production has been plagued with problems with the stunts, both during previews (see “Spider-Man Left Hanging”) and during rehearsals. The show is currently in previews and is expected to open in February (see “Spider-Man Pushed Back”). |

"The God of Fear" sounds like a really lazy way to make a conflict that has parallels to the current world.

I remember around the time Batman broke his back there was this really awesome Scarecrow story with him trying to set himself up as the God of Fear.

The movie (with its all star cast, see “Movie Avengers Assembled”) will open May 4, 2012. |

So far, I can't see the event being as ambitious as Civil War with such a shitty premise. However, it is way too early. Maybe as details arrive my mind will be at ease.

Early hints at Civil War were literally "Superheroes fight each other, kids will love it." That's a silly premise that turned out awesome.
Anyway, some art from Cap's movie: |

That is true. But..I felt Civil War had an awesome concept from the get go. We have all fantasized about who would win between superhero A and B. Maybe I am just not buying this one enough. Like I said, it is very early still and I am sure as details emerge I will be more into it.

Pretty sure Parker's hair was never that wild.
Fuck it, I'm still bitter that they're rebooting it 4 years after the original trilogy ended. :foc: |

What was the good news?
I'm obviously there, but the casting isn't really enough to get me stoked. Parker and Gwen are pretty good casting. I think they went weird directions with the adults so far, but we shall see. What else has been announced? I'm very curious to see the costume |

I think the most disappointing news I've heard thus far is that they're taking it back to high school/origins.
Obviously I love the Spidey origin story, but even if it's told slightly different (Ultimates), it's still another telling of Spidey's origins in under 10 years. That feels uncalled for, especially since Raimi nailed that. Personally I would have liked them to go later into his life. |

I have a feeling the costume will be the same as the Raimi suit. Don't know why.

Well, it should obviously be similar since there's only far you can go from the actual costume on screen.
I feel like they could change some things though. The texture, the shape of the eyes, and the webbing. I loved the Raimi suit, but I wouldn't mind seeing them make the red and blue brighter, the eyes bigger, and the webbing darker. Go further towards the comic booky look. I bet they'll make it darker though. Everything in Hollywood needs to be "darker" now. |

That's probably part of why I want to see later in Parker's life covered in the movies. Some of the more mature years with his villains, and romantic interests.
I fully understand why they aren't though. The high school stuff, and the scientist villains make more cash. Eventually, maybe. |
