MARCH 23, 2005 - SUPERSTARS

Tonight promises to be a huge night for the newly-streamlined Superstars roster, as a huge triple main event has been booked! Sting will take on Chris Jericho, John Cena will take on Chris Benoit, and in our main event it's Champion vs. Champion as AJ Styles goes one-on-one with Christian! Plus, the NWA Tag Team Titles will be on the line, and we expect huge fall-out from Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli's improbable Intercontinental Title victory last week.

But we kick things off with X-Division action as The Hurricane goes one-on-one with "Above Average" Mike Sanders! Exciting match that gets the crowd off to a red-hot start, and it goes back and forth several times. Eventually, though, Hurricane catches Sanders with the Eye of the Hurricane for the win.

Sanders remains in the ring as the rest of the Natural Born Thrillers join him, finished off by the arrival of Intercontinental Champion Johnny Stamboli. It is announced that Stamboli will be facing off against Sean O'Haire in his first title defense, and O'Haire points to the mat, indicating that Stamboli should lay down for him. Stamboli looks at O'Haire like he's crazy. O'Haire gives him a look that shows he's serious. Sanders stands behind O'Haire with his arms crossed, nodding. Stamboli appeals to Chuck Palumbo who shakes his head. Stamboli nods and waves Palumbo and Sanders out of the ring. The bell sounds... and Stamboli nails O'Haire with a Mamaluke DDT! The ref counts the pin, but O'Haire pops up and blasts Stamboli with the Prophecy.

After the match, Sanders and Palumbo join O'Haire in the ring and put the boots to Stamboli. O'Haire grabs a microphone and talks about how Stamboli had the opportunity to do the right thing by his oldest friends, but he just threw away five years of friendship for material gain. Well, the Thrillers have been needing a new target, and Stamboli just gave them one. But he's not telling us anything we didn't already know!

In a match that Paul London asked for in a WWE.com exclusive, he attempts to show off his technical acumen against William Regal. It's a very good match, but Regal manages to keep London grounded for most of the action, putting him away with the Regal Stretch for what has to be considered a bit of an upset.

The NWA Tag Team Titles are on the line in our next contest as America's Most Wanted take on the team of Konnan and Ron Killings. The champs look like they have the match in control when they're blindsided by the team of Christian York and Trent Acid! York clamps Storm in the Irish Cloverleaf, and the referee calls for the bell. The duo continue to work over the champs.

Suddenly, the upstarts are joined in the ring by the "Sinister Minister" Jim Mitchell. He grabs a microphone and announces that what we're looking at is two of the hungriest young stars in WWE, and the next NWA Tag Team Champions. He says that Acid and Chris Reign (York's new name, apparently) are his newest proteges and will not rest until they are champions!

More X Division action is next as Frankie Kazarian goes to war with Kid Kash. Decent match, but not as good as the Hurricane/Sanders match from earlier. Kash picks up the win with Cha Ching.

The first of our three main events is a barn-burner as John Cena and Chris Benoit put on one of the best matches of the year thus far! The crowd is completely 100% into the action, hanging on every near-fall. AJ Styles makes his presence felt, distracting Benoit (who's been a thorn in his side since his WWE debut), allowing Cena to hit the F-U. After the match, Chris Jericho comes to the ring to even the sides.

"Nature Boy" Dave Batista cuts a pre-taped promo about how his loss to Johnny Stamboli last week opened his eyes. He had grown complacent in his role, but no more. He's not going to let the lifestyle he's been running interfere with his career. He's going to be World Champion one day, and that journey begins tonight. No more wheeling and dealing. No more limousine-riding, jet-flying. It's time for this Leviathan to get back to his roots and destroy people!

Our second main event begins after the break, pitting WCW alumni Sting and Chris Jericho against each other. Solid contest that is marred by the interference of Christian, who drags Sting out of the ring to result in a DQ. Christian and Jericho go to work on Sting until John Cena makes the save by running off Vitamin C.

The final match of the evening is a non-title, champion-versus-champion encounter between World Champion Christian and X-Division Champion AJ Styles! The match is as exciting as you would expect with several near-falls. Just like the previous matches, though, this one is spoiled by interference. This time, it's Chris Benoit shouting threats at Styles that allows Christian to hit the Unprettier for the win. Sting makes the save, and the babyfaces stand tall as Superstars comes to an end.

I just assumed M-A-G and I were the only ones who still cared about this. When I stopped caring about my game, I decided not to post about any subsequent games, since I didn't think anyone would notice.

I turn on EWR and play every now and then, but I know myself well enough to know that I'll just stop again within a week...so posting my progress is kinda pointless.

I've been considering doing a new game under the premise that the Monday Night Wars never ended.

Bischoff was able to buy WCW from Turner through his production company, and moved Nitro and Thunder to USA, who wanted new wrestling programming after the WWF jumped to Spike TV.

The WWF, not wanting to change their identity in the face of continued competition, settled out of court with the Fund to be allowed continued use of the initials for an annual donation.

Paul Heyman goes into business with his friend Cary Silkin, who was considering starting his own promotion, but instead helps keep ECW afloat by bringing in a cadre of top independent stars.

Basically, I'd play as all three promotions, posting results, ratings, and buyrates as I go. But, I don't know what kind of interest there is anymore.

This is pretty much what happens with me with TEW. Just randomly turned it on tonight but the company I'm running is only doing monthly shows so I started just "Next day"ing it. Gotta do that 27 times and it takes a couple minutes to get to the next day. By the time I finally hit the next show, I'll forget about the game and not come back to it for a while.

As Hart retreated down the aisle and Yokozuna held the title aloft, Hulk Hogan appeared to console Bret Hart. Mr. Fuji then challenged Hogan to face Yokozuna immediately for the title. Hogan took the offer and ran to the ring. The Hulkster ducked under a clothesline attempt and then knocked Yokozuna off his feet. Indicating to the fans he was going for a legdrop, Bret Hart then stormed the ring and beat down Hogan, resulting in a DQ win for Hulk, but not the title. The bizarre finish left fans confused. How will Bret explain his actions against the Immortal Hulk Hogan to his loyal fans?

Note - the EWR 1993 scenario includes a fair amount of the guys who would go on to become superstars legit e.g. Jericho, Edge, Christian, Steve Austin, Triple H, etc. I am trying to be objective and sign people who I know would be around at set times in the game as opposed to getting all the above guys straight off the bat in the start of my game.

Monday Night Raw - Monday April 5th 1993 Vince McMahon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan welcome everyone to Monday Night Raw, following the shocking conclusion of the previous nights WrestleMania IX. Standing in the ring is none other than Mean Gene Okerlund. Bret Hart's music hits, and the Hitman makes his way out to the ring to a very mixed reception. Mean Gene asks the question that is "on everybody's lips". Why did Bret do that to Hogan, and let his fans down. Bret said that as far as he was concerned, he hasn't let anybody down, especially the fans that stuck with him over the past year while Hulk Hogan was getting a sun tan. As far as Bret is concerned, he was let down by the referee for failing to see the salt thrown in his eyes. As for what he did with Hogan, Bret was not going to let the Hulkster pull the wool over the Hitman's fans' eyes. Bret carried the belt and defended it week in, week out for six months in Hogan's absence and Hogan was not about to roll back in after one night back in the WWF and come away with the very thing that Bret has worked hard to win and keep. And if the fans have a problem with that, then maybe they never really were fans of the Excellence of Execution to begin with. Bret closes with the fact that he fights for the people, and Hogan does not. Next up, having re-signed for the WWF, The British Bulldog made his return to TV with a quick and dominant victory over Damien Demento with a Running Powerslam. Owen Hart and Koko B.Ware defeated The Beverly Brothers in a tag team match. Owen was particularly impressive and picked up the win with a missile dropkick from the top turnbuckle. Ric Flair was backstage with Sean Mooney. Sean asked Ric Flair why he had returned after losing a loser leaves town match against Mr. Perfect. Flair said that he had indeed left the WWF, but President Jack Tunney had resigned him to a new deal. A deal so ludicrous that it allowed Ric to take stylin', profilin', limousine riding, jet flying, kiss stealing, wheelin' n' dealin' all to the next level. The Nature Boy is back baby. And he's got a little payback to dish out. In eight man tag team action, Money Inc. and The Headshrinkers faced the Steiner Brothers and The Smoking Guns. In a relatively short match, Ted DiBiase locked in the Million Dollar Dream on Bart Gunn and the newcomer tapped out quickly. In another debut, Dean Malenko came out to no reception from the crowd for his match with the Kamikaze Kid. A good back and forth match ended when Malenko locked in a Texas Cloverleaf. Razor Ramon faced the plucky Virgil and won in dominant fashion with the Razor's Edge Well, you know something Mean Gene,...that can only mean Hulk Hogan is promo-ing it up backstage. Hogan immediately challenged Yokozuna to a rematch, tonight for the WWF title. Gene asked what about Bret Hart? Hogan told Gene that he understands why Bret did what he did. It was in the heat of the moment. And when Hogan becomes the WWF champion, he will totally give Hart a match for the belt. Mr. Perfect faced Rick "The Model" Martel in one on one action. Martel was holding his own before Flair came to ringside. Martel and Mr. perfect tumbled into the referee at a point in the match, and the referee took a none too serious bump. Flair picked up a steel chair and tried to hit Perfect, but Mr. Perfect ducked a flair nailed Rick Martel. The Model turned around right into a Perfect Plex as the referee recovered. Mr. Perfect won. Flair backed off up the aisle, mouthing off at Mr. perfect, who had a smug look on his face. Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji came to the ring to answer Hulk Hogan's challenge. Mr. Fuji hung the Japanese flag by ringside as Yokozuna climbed into the ring with his WWF title. Mr. Fuji said that Yokozuna would be the greatest champion of all time, and would face Hogan right now. The crowd went wild as a referee sprinted to the ring. Hulk Hogan's music hit and the Hulkster ran to the ring. It wasn't a very technical match as they brawled back and forth. Hulk Hogan had the match won after hitting the legdrop of doom as Mr. Fuji climbed up on the apron and distracted the referee. Hogan stood up from the pin attempt as Bret Hart appeared out of nowhere with the Japanese flag on a pole and broke it over Hogan's back while the referee was distracted. Yokozuna recovered and belly to belly suplexed Hogan before dragging him over to the corner and hitting a Banzai Drop. Yokozuna won the match and held the tilte aloft as Vince McMahon asked "Why Bret?" and Raw went off air.

Yes. I used TNM 6 and 7 in like high school but it doesn't work on this gen of computers without Dosbox and I couldn't get it to work. Used it for results when I ran a trivia/RP fed.

I loved EWR, spent so much time on it. I remember one of my best fueds being Rhyno vs Kurt Angle for the WWE title, Rhyno became champ and his popularity sky rocketed.

I still have EWR on my computer and every couple of months I'll download the latest roster update in case I want to start a new game. I don't think I can book more than a month though without losing steam even if I have a million ideas floating in my head. And then once I open EWR again I feel like I want to start over because I forgot what storylines I was going for.

I had the same issue with TEW. I'd spend a few sessions booking some shows and then when I take a month break I can't get a good idea of the storylines I had going on and it's tough to get back into it.

EWR is easier for casual booking because it requires less focus. Starting a local company and trying to build it up is WAY more fun with TEW though. I'm two years in and I'm still at local drawing a crowd of less than 100 people but I've gotten to the point where I can at least break even every month. It's a cool challenge.

Some people seem to like EWR the best because of it's simplicity but personally I would say TEW 2005. It takes longer but you control so many more aspects and the ratings and stuff are more precise and harder to bring up.

If you can get DosBox to work TNM is the best pure wrestling sim. It's good program to see who would actually win with complete movesets and full match results. The others are "general manager" modes rather than a wrestling simulator.

A few months ago I started a completely new fed from local and am trying to bring it up. I'm a few years in now and I've risen to a small company drawing pretty decent crowds (over 500) in the south west.

There have been a few times where I've wanted to start a WWE game but I know I wouldn't have time to focus on both and I'd end up abandoning the other game like I always do.

you book but it doesn't have any of the wrestlers being cunts and refusing to job. It does have a random no-show function though.

I think I'm going to give EWR a legitimate go again once I'm done with grad school in December. Right now I have very little free time so what time I do have I devote towards other games or the WWE Network (which can be purchased for just $9.99).

The good part about starting a game in December is that I can take it over right in time to book the road to WrestleMania.

I'll invariably re-institute the brand split like I always do, as well. Just makes it was easier for me to book.

I'm thinking I'll give it a go in January. November's going to be tied up with work and NaNoWriMo, and December is just always busy, so I may finally revisit that WWF/WCW/ECW idea after the new year.

I still do my local fed game on TEW2013. About 5 years in now and I'm just barely reaching regional level. It's tough because I'm running a fed that relies equally on star power and skill but I'm trying not to go all TNA and sign nothing but guys who have recognition from WWE. I've signed a few guys with star power but I haven't been giving them the titles or anything and I've been putting my top homegrown guys over them.

I was thinking of going back to my history and recapping the first 4 and a half years and then doing a journal but this topic seems to be relatively dead still.

On another note: There should have an option to film multiple episodes of a TV show in one night. I've found ways to get around having to pay guys for multiple events while still keeping angles going but it would be easier and more realistic if I could just film four episodes of my show in one night and then air them throughout the month.

Yeah, I have my doubts this topic will ever be fully revived. Many of the people who were regular contributors back when the topic got a lot of use have since left the boards. Even when Loopy and I get back into the fold it'd basically be the three of us talking to each other lol.

The best place to post journals, diaries, etc. about EWR or TEW games is EW Battleground. As best I can tell it's the only place left on the internet where there's an active wrestling sim community, and it's pretty much where all of the Adam Ryland diehards wound up.
