You have some points but none of this is worth fighting for. We'd all like for AEW to be getting 1.2 or more every week but it does fit into the bigger picture. Smackdown in it's height on UPN averaged in the 4.0 area, Raw even higher with obvious peaks that were much higher. This is with the time though, no streaming, if you wanted to watch it you had to watch it live or set your tv and vcr up to record. Which still registered as a live watch. Cable overall is down at this time, thus WWE is down. But with that adjustment they are still doing some of the biggest numbers on cable. And with the current situation AEW is one of the top rated entertainment shows on Wednesday night every week. So even though we'd all prefer wrestling to be scoring better, in reality it's not that bad. I'm still dealing with years of abuse from WWE, so are many others and thus naturally we are mostly on board with the new product that engages our nostalgia and lust for exciting action and stories that are for wrestling fans. WWE is still geared to pleasing Vince and that is the big difference when it comes to fandom for AEW. I don't think anyone here wants WWE to fail, but while it is spiraling downward (creatively) as it has for years, we are more than pleased to enjoy AEW, which for the most part WE are the target audience for.

If you ever want evidence that Dave Meltzer is a biased cunt actively spreading disinformation to people, look at how AEW’s PPV “success” has been covered. Meltzer deliberately conflates worldwide data with other promotions’ domestic and terrestrial success.
AEW received about 75k domestic buys through all platforms. I think that’s their best one. ECW would routinely get 99k thousand back before streaming was an option. Does Meltzer report it like this? No. AEW has done better than anyone except WCW. Fuck him. And fuck anyone who should know better than spreads this shit. And SmackDown more than triples AEW’s rating because it is a far superior show. You can take from that whatever good or bad that you want. If you like SmackDown, good for you. If you want to shake your head at how a WWE program is tea-bagging the “alternative” that had an open shot, go with that too. I’m ambivalent at this point. I hate WWE’s monopoly and most things the company does, but they are SO much better than what you get from these smug “we’re (not so) different” promotions that the schadenfreude of the WWE dropping the leg is pretty funny. And SmackDown does objectively have the better stars, the better workers and in many cases the better stories. So yeah, fuck AEW. |

1.82 million for RAW this week up against the college championship, which did monster numbers
Interesting thing is instead of holding steady to hr 3 w/ tease of Orton vs HHH they lost half a million viewers instead essentially |

I can't imagine wasting so much time and energy hating on a wrestling promotion you hate as well as posting long diatribes telling people they're wrong for liking it.

I sort of get the frustration. I genuinely thought for so many years with ratings tanking, that WWE would realize how bad they have gotten and do something drastic. But they just get worse and worse. I miss WWF so much! I was always a big wrestling fan so it sucks that it’s basically unwatchable now.
I was interested in AEW but then you switch the channel and have the same stupid stuff going on there. There isn’t much elite about it. I think it’s the anger and disappointment that someone comes along and offers hope, but just don’t deliver (maybe while acting like they do) It’s actually insane how bad wrestling has gotten today. We all laughed at TNA back when, but it was actually amazing at its peak compared to the dross being served up today. Wrestling, across the board, has lost its way big time. |

2006-09 TNA, for all of the terrible booking and whatnot that went on, had a lot of great matches.

Today, everything means nothing. Titles mean nothing, moves mean nothing, TV means nothing. It is trash, even compared to, at the time, the much maligned TNA of 10 years ago. |

TNA was a point of derision for basically its entire run. There’s a 2004-2006 period where people were somewhat hopeful, but it was still marred by bad booking and ridiculous ideas.
I have no clue why AEW gets to escape. My thinking is that wrestling is so much WORSE now that people will take anything. I remember when people told me Braun Strowman was over. You tune into Raw and he gets, like, 200 cheers. The rest is people just sitting and clapping or standing to see what happens. But it was quiet as shit every time I saw him. Because I hadn’t conditioned myself to that crap. I’m willing to bet a significant number of AEW fans still put themselves through watching the WWE. Hence their low standards. The only other thing is that this company has a lot more accessible capital than TNA and constantly blows the fans. They’ve tried to make them feel a part of something, a bit like the marks in ECW. But how anyone can sit around and logically defend AEW as being a significantly smarter, more mature, more pro-wrestling company is insane. They’ve turned Chris Jericho into a fat musical comedy act. They’ve squandered the potential of nearly every single person that had it. MJF is a comedy act. Adam Page is a comedy drunk in the loser group. Miro came in, as I said he would, as a parody of his WWE act. FTR are doing basically what they would be doing in WWE except with worse talent. NONE of this is a lie. This is about as close to observable fact as it gets. WWE, TNA, WCW, whoever would get BLASTED for being this inept. I saw a video of a girl on YouTube talking about why she hates AEW so much. She was prettt annoying, but her points were spot-on. Her points about their booking made her seem smarter than the company. Raw is a sludge-pit of nothing and wrestling fans STILL prefer it. That is sad. A good, two-hour, pinpoint, priority program on Wednesday nights should be able to beat three hours of tedium. But it can’t. Because it’s not worth the switch. How sad is that? I’m so mad at wrestling. It doesn’t have to be bad. This is the ego of the people involved, mixing with their stupidity, to create something insulting to the senses. The matches aren’t good. The promos aren’t good. The stories are babyish. The “characters” are ridiculous and dumbed down to amazing degrees. It’s nepotistic. It’s fucking wasteful. The amount of waste on these shows and in their ledgers is ridiculous. Six figures confirmed for Marko Stunt. You can’t get CM Punk, who hates WWE, but you can afford to spend money on Marko fucking Stunt. Argh! I wonder how much Hornswoggle got paid for his comedy segment that was entirely not like something WWE would do? Vickie Guerrero? Wrestling needs to die. This shit is too much. Someone explain to me why Hornswoggle, Marko Stunt, the self-destruction of Chris Jericho and wasting talent are good things. And I don’t want to hear “wait and see” as an excuse. “They’re being bad on purpose” is not going to cut it either. |

lol so where does "AEW forced Jericho to hit the sauce a bit too hard" fit in the "I want logical wrestling discussion" argument?

But this company won’t send him home. They won’t ask him to stay in some sort of presentable shape that doesn’t embarrass a whole bunch of potentially new viewers. They don’t even ask him to stop going to South Dakota or wherever the fuck and stop spreading a potentially fatal disease. They’re just marks that are happy to have “Omg, omg, omg! It’s Chris Jericho! He beat Austin and Rock in the same night!” there to buy him birthday cakes and do whatever the fuck he wants on their show. That’s how it fits into logical wrestling discussion, you boot-licker. |

Most of the best wrestlers ever were guys who didn’t give a shit about their health and were often big fat tubs.
Most wrestlers today are the exact opposite of that. And they’re terrible. |

Definitely. But also, no selling, no psychology and no actual stories within matches to differentiate them. It’s so far from what wrestling should be.

It's sad watching Jericho go downhill tbh. He was/is one of the best ever as far as I'm concerned. I have an odd personal Mount Rushmore of wrasslin and he would be on it. I have no doubt that when he first started putting on weight for his run in Japan that he was doing it for the creative reasons he has claimed in the past; but somewhere along the way, particularly after AEW got up and running, he just let himself go. It's not a gimmick anymore, he has legit gone over the edge and it just spiraling downwards. Maybe some of it has to do with Fozzy finally getting some mainstream success too, I dunno. All I know is that it makes me sad watching one of the all time greats in my eyes go down like this.

The news is clearly the best show on a Wednesday night. It has the most entertaining storylines and conflict. The writing is on point. All of the characters have clear direction. It's no surprise that the news is really dominating these other shows in the entertainment genre. If you're not watching the news on a Wednesday night and you live in America, what the fuck are you even doing with your life? Just stop existing. Imagine watching anything else but the news lol. Pathetic.

Considering AEW splits ad revenue with TNT, provided both shows had an equal rate (NXT’s is probably higher at base, but ignoring that), AEW would need to do twice as well as NXT to end up as profitable for TNT is as NXT. That’s also assuming that NXT charges $45 million for rights. If it’s cheaper, then that’s even more money saved by USA. Yeah, that’s the show that’s gonna move.
