I was bitching about James McAvoy, but it's not like nobody bitches here about stuff they don't know about.
I'll wait to watch the film to actually pass proper judgement, but so far looking at the pictures I fucking hate the guy. Patrick Stewart ftw! :foc: |

The only thing I was "having a tone" about was the plot of Wanted. I mock a lot of shit I know nothing about, like your beloved anime, but sadly this is not the case, so you just can't be a bitch about it this time. Sorry. |

Nah, I'm on point about you making a foolish statement, getting called on it, and being all, "What, I didn't mean that."

Looks like Spidey's "street running suit" is his wrestling outfit.

I don't think Gambit is "overrated." I think he's just a great supporting character who caught on very quickly and became way popular among fans because of how "badass" he was.
What his character represents and brings to the table doesn't really match that popularity. He just doesn't have the substance, (from what I've read) to match his style. So basically what you have is a character that isn't tremendously deep, nor should it be, but their popularity has brought them to a level where people either pedestal them, or resent them for not being as realized as a Joker or Magneto. Supporting characters with the popularity of major players. This happens all the time with pop characters, though. It's the Boba Fett effect. I can't say anything because I love Gambit (and Fett), but it's almost definitely a style thing. Last edited by Jeritron; 01-25-2011 at 12:49 AM. |

Such low hanging fruit right there for the screenwriters. That's sort of the direction comic book movies have decided to go, and it usually disappoints me. I'd rather them just take Thor and go all the way with it, and only worry about getting him into modern times by The Avengers. Seems like every "Marvel" movie takes the light-hearted modern approach with a peppy romance, and it doesn't serve every character. They know what they're doing though, and what sells. Apparently DC does too, since they're apparently taking Green Lantern from Iron Man's entire playbook. I just don't think Thor should be tackled in the same vein as Iron Man and Spidey. I know there's plenty of Asgard and stuff in there, but ultimately I think it's obvious it's going to be a pretty standard modern-superhero flick. Whatever that ends up meaning. Hopefully, with Cap America, Joe Johnston is able to deliver on a WWII adventure with a golden age feel. My biggest hope is that it feels like Raiders of the Lost Ark or a perfected Rocketeer. My biggest worry is that it plays like The Mummy or something, in that it's only set in the past and doesn't capture it. I also have concerns of it being anything like the G.I. Joe movie. |

Well maybe he's chasing the killer after the wrestling show? That would explain the lack of webshooters and the shitty costume.
That's just an idea though, and probably not true. I have no excuses. Even if it was just the post-wrestling sequence, I'm all set with seeing that done again already. Raimi covered it quite well. I love that whole sequence. If they're going to revisit everything about the origins (even in partial Ultimate style), they should structure the film differently. Maybe it should open with Parker already Spidey, and the story already at a certain place. Flashbacks and such could show origins material. Really I just want to see them at least do something different. And that doesn't mean I want them to make the suit look really awful or change important characters either. But I would almost prefer Jameson to be a huge hardass and borderline villain just so that they don't have to try to re-capture what JK Simmons did, or take us back through the Daily Bugle in the style Raimi did (which was gold.) |

If that's what he's able to throw together for a wrestling show, he sure as hell better have something nice for when he goes full-time superhero.

The one thing I love about this Spidey is the casting though. I have good feelings about Andrew Garfield in the role. I just hope they can get through this high school and origins stuff again without me finding it annoying or inferior. That's why I think it would be best if they toyed with how they structure it, but we'll see.
I'm chomping at the bit to see Parker a little bit older and self-assured. Hopefully it doesn't take 3 movies and another cast/director/reboot to get there. Leather jakcet and a staff job. And a true version of Mary Jane (Dunst was awful.) And I want to see Kingpin, and some of the 70s and 80s villains done proper. I love the classic villains as much as any of them, but it'd be nice to see Spidey taking on more than just deranged teachers and family friends who had bad science accidents. I get the story value there, but there's also the appeal of him taking on NYC itself, and a whole crime element. The mean Jameson would be great there, to make it all harder for him in the public eye. |

I'd feel sorry for anyone who has to try and top Willem DaFoe or Alfred Molina as Green Goblin or Doc Ock, if they appear in these new films.

Dafoe was good, but it wasn't something that I can't see being topped. Molina, however was perfect as doc ock.
Also, the problem with mary jane in the old movies is that they tried to make mary jane like she is in the modern spider-man comics. A mature, strong adult. Didn't work, as the story was about spidey's early years, when the more iconic, bubbley version of mary jane was around. |

Y'know, I actually like the new suit. The only thing that really irks me about it is the lack of a 'belt' area, but I really don't see why everyone's getting all bent out of shape about it. It's a scrawny kid who sewed a costume together in his basement; why wouldn't it look a little off?
Anyway, I'm pretty optimistic about the reboot. I know a lot of folks aren't happy with them going back and doing another origin, but I'm honestly liking the fact that they're doing it this way. The casting all looks pretty great, they're using a villain that hasn't been used before (and ostensibly giving a proper buildup for more major villains like Osborn), making proper use of Spidey's other main love interest so Gwen Stacy's not just there to make Mary Jane jealous and bitchy like in Spider-Man 3, and yes, I'm digging the fact that he has gadget web-shooters again. If we're lucky they'll change the structure of the story a bit so it's not just a re-done version of Spider-Man 1 (I like Jeritron's idea of having Peter already be Spidey when the movie starts), but if not, I mean hey, at least they're trying to get it right. |

The biggest problem with Dunst's MJ was that she started off like MJ, but by the second movie she was just a miserable bitch, for lack of a better term.
She became more and more brutal and really just served as a plot device to keep Parker unhappy and troubled. She even started to look and act in a way that was the antithesis of MJ. They thought having her throw "tiger" into a line of dialogue once a movie was going to rememdy the shortcomings, but after the first movie it was pretty obvious that they'd decided to shitcan the Mary Jane character and just play it another way. Granted, Spider-Man 2 is easily the best of the Spidey films and in my Top 2 or 3 of comic book films alltime, but they certainly dropped the ball on that character. |

Durnst wasn't terrible in the first Spider-Man, I mean she wasn't amazing but she wasn't too bad, but yeah the second and third ones she sucked and just came across as selfish etc. It's like 'Hello, your boyfriend risks his life and sacrifices his own time to help people all over New York unrewarded, and she's bitching because he won't take a negative review of her singing seriously'.
Also, in 2 and 3, she didn't really have the trademark red hair, it was just like ginger/strawberry blond or something. |

In fact he kind of saved the day. If he hadn't spoken to Harry, Harry probably wouldn't have gone to save Spiedy. |

He should have told him about that a couple of years earlier, though. Like, pretty much as soon as Harry started his vow of revenge against Spider-Man for killing his father, when the butler knew for a fact that he didn't.
