Good for them. I didn’t think they would get there. If anything, I think it’s more a demand for a different kind of show, and still sincerely doubt anyone really cares about Cody Rhodes, but they didn’t land flat on their faces. That nothing’s really been announced is the giveaway there. Running in the same market shouldn’t be a problem months apart, but it is.

lol "Good job but I'm still right even though I was wrong".
Fact is, it was never going to be ALL ABOUT Cody. I don't even think HE thinks he's that big of a draw. |

I didn’t say that. Stop projecting. I didn’t think they would do it; they did — I was wrong. I just think Destor’s thinking on this happens to be correct. All those guys are going to be at New Japan. It’s the novelty of the event, which I didn’t think would be enough, but apparently is.

They’ve got the money, but it will be interesting to see how many people do turn up. I doubt scalpers got that many tickets, but it’ll be interesting to see the actual attendance of the show.

I think Punk played a huge roll in the draw ftr HOWEVER they've done a wonderful job hyping the show up until now. I will be curious to see what they can do long term or if this is just a one off.

Given the perception of interest, I can see them seguing it into some sort of TV deal. If not for weekly stuff, some sort of specials. But maybe they will just do live events. I can’t see them not doing it again unless the show absolutely sucks or attendance is at the 6,000 mark and scalpers bought a shitload of tickets for some reason.
The promise of Punk would have helped, but I honestly didn’t think he was that much of a draw, haha. |

My biggest hope from this is that the story is distorted enough to make someone with too much money invest in wrestling. I’m so hungry for an alternative that is a bit more serious than The Bullet Club. But I don’t know if that will draw today, given that the people willing to attend these things prefer to chant “Brother Nero” than get into Jeff Hardy. It’s such a weird time and place to be in.

The whole Punk thing is weird. Punk himself has only teased it once.
That's it. Other than the recent news that he's doing a signing at Pro Wrestling Tees the day before, he's not dropped any hints nor really mentioned wrestling at all. It would be disingenuous to say that the Bucks haven't teased the possibility of him showing up, though. They've teased it in interviews, on Twitter, and all sorts, for months. It's not as if they're using it as the biggest selling point for the show, but they've very purposefully made sure his name is in the conversation around this event. If he doesn't show up, the reaction would be fascinating. I wonder how many people decided to go just on the very prospect of Punk showing up - but at the same time, can you really bitch about not getting something that was never announced? |

According to Cody, him and the Young Bucks were only expecting around 4k tickets to be sold as a best case scenario for the first week. Sears Center was the first to tell them it actually sold out way quicker than they ever imagined.

Wonder if they will put on a yearly show if this receives a good response after the show.

If this is the case, then they should be expecting a major profit.

I wonder what tickets are being sold with the thought that CM Punk might be there. I'm also curious how likely Punk might show this show.
I'm not convinced that Punk is a end all be all here. But if he shows, holy fuck. |

I don't see why Punk wouldn't be down to just come in for a segment, hit a GTS on someone and play to the crowd a little.

If he comes in, does his finisher, gets paid very little. This show is a massive hit and Vince might need to take notice.

It's a one off event with no promotion backing it, not sure what Vince would take notice of unless it's the marketing they've used to do it.

A professional wrestling promotion, its pretty common term used in the wrestling community when talking about a company. Am I wrong?
Or maybe you are inferring that ROH and NJPW are putting some money into it? |

So you think you need a 3 letter name to be a promotion?

I'd love for Punk to be the color commentator for the event, but that would take some of the oomph away from him doing anything, maybe. |

Based on some estimates, Cody and the Young Bucks made over $480k just from ticket sales for this event.

That's the revenue, not the profit. I've never booked an arena myself, but quick research tells me that it's probably about $20,000 to book it, at least, with 15% of the gate, at least, going to the venue. That takes it down to $392,250. That's before paying talent, splitting with ROH and New Japan and whoever else fronted some costs for the show, and then splitting it among themselves. And I don't know how American tax cuts into that.
It's still a good haul, don't get me wrong. And then there are merchandise sales and streaming things to work out, but they didn't "make" that much money. That's what they have on the gate. It doesn't factor in any expenses. |

Supposedly Rey Mysterio charges around $20k for his bookings. Considering he's arguably the biggest name announced so far, the rest probably are making a few hundred to a few thousand at best for this show.

I've got no clue, but when you see how much the show is making, you'd probably want to work for more than chips. Is it being streamed? Do you want an inflated rate because of that? Or are they going to sell DVDs/put it on PPV/make a deal with Netflix?

Yeah, I wouldn't gamble with Poe's law over Twitter. Besides, I'm not entirely sure he was being sarcastic. I mean, independent wrestling didn't really exist the same way as it does now back prior to the national expansion. And it's obvious you can't repeat that same success week-to-week. I wonder if Waltman's point is more jagged towards the state of "mainstream wrestling" in that there is such demand for an alternative?
