They say in the behind the scenes footage that the first five minutes isn't related to the movie. I forget what they called it, but they said they basically created a fable to introduce the story. There are some ties to the film via the themes of death and Judaism, but other than that it doesn't have anything to do with the movie.

The Karate Kid: 3/10
Just terrible. All of the child actors spewed out their lines like manufactured dolls; Jaden Smith included. The soundtrack continually tried to force the contrived emotional scenes down the audience's throat while set-pieces of drama played out featuring characters without pulses. Despite millions of dollars in budget, this movie could not buy a single ounce of genuine emotion for any of its lead characters. The most entertaining thing about the entire film were the overly choreographer fight sequences, but even a fight sequence falls dead at the end when you just don't give a shit about any of the characters. Macchio was/is no great actor, but he played the Daniel LaRusso character perfectly. While Jackie Chan is atleast trying here, Jaden Smith has nothing to go on, and so the movie, story and emotion go nowhere as well. Terrible. |

Killers - 6.5/10
"An adequate way to spend 2 hours" is the statement I use when I don't like a film but don't hate it. That's what this film got. Heigl was hot though. |

THE SLAMMIN' SALMON
4/5 Solid movie that got me laughing frequently. My only complaint is that the plot wasn't as twisty as most other Broken Lizard (Super Troopers, Beerfest) plots. Still just as good otherwise and worth the watch. |

Probably alone in this assessment, but I saw Karate Kid yesterday and in all honesty have to give it a 9.5/10.
Seriously one of the best films I've seen this summer. While the starting foundation did seem a bit forced, once it was laid in place the rest of the movie flowed perfectly, the two and a half hours just zoomed by. Unlike it's predecessor (which I admit I haven't seen for the better part of a decade) this movie had a lot more substance going for it. I believe the fight scenes were spot on when taking into consideration the amount of time the actors put in towards training for them, Jaden included. As always Jackie was his usual self, mixing humor with the action, which is far from a bad thing. The only reason this movie doesn't score a perfect 10 for me is because of the title... There was no Karate anywhere in the film, would it have killed the producers to just call it the "Kung Fu Kid"? Would have made a lot more sense. Also, the actor playing Lu Wing had the most baddest hairstyle I've ever seen on a child, and he played off of it at such an awesome degree. |

Knight and Day - 10/10 Five words: Mother effing nonstop thrill ride Cyrus - 9/10 This was really great. "Huge fan" of the writer/director team (Duplass Bros), <3 their style, and John C. Reilly was incredible, "as was" Jonah Hill. Shadows and Fog - 3/10 This is I think the worst Woody Allen movie I have ever seen. Seems like he "wasn't even trying" or something in regards to the story. |

Dunno if it I had high expectations for this given how well received it was but I didn't enjoy this half as much as I wanted to. Guessed killer with a long way to go. |

very disappointing but held together enough for an average score. Basically the same score I would give Year One...another dud with enough "oomph" to not make me walk out. |

I would go as far as to say that it had the best swerve ending reveal since "Bruce Willis is Dead!?!" in the Sixth Sense. Totally didn't see it coming. |

Shutter Island 3.5/5
Despite it not being Martin Scorsese genre I thought it was rather entertaining even though I knew and I'm sure many of you knew how it would end. Was never a big fan of his but I though it was some of Dicaprio's best acting to date he even looked the part which helped immensly. There's one horrific scene towards the conclusion of the film that I felt was dragged out and didn't need to be it could have been done more implied like the other flashbacks. |

Awesome movie. Shit got WAY intense, and as I had just watched Firefly it was all still fresh for me. Quite sad, and an incredible sci-fi flick. |

Also:
From Paris With Love - 6/10 - Fun enough, John Travolta is a lot of fun but gets a bit gay at the end. Would have been an improvement with a better actor than Jonathan Rhys Meyers too. Taking of Pelham 123 (remake) - 5/10 - Meh. Only reason I gave it a 5 is because of the decent cast with decent enough performances. Pretty bad otherwise. MacGruber - 6/10 - I thought it'd be a 'all the jokes are in the trailers' type schtick but that wasn't entirely the case. Not bad if you leave your brain at the door. |

Toy Story 3
8/10 The original will probably never be topped but as far as sequels go it doesn't get much better. Way better than part 2. Very strong plot with very intense moments of drama and a few good laughs. |
