Rate the Game: Week 160
Good morning, one and all. Sorry for the late start on this, but the site has been kind of dodgy as of late, to say the least. We make our mark whenever we can. Hopefully, it's not enough to dissuade you all from participating in our little weekly ritual here. We're just about set to close out November with Week 160, but first we need to see how well Samurai Shodown stacks up to the rest of the leaderboard. Not a lot of play amongst us here at TPWW, but the leaderboard gets final say as to its status. Roll it...
SNK has little to be ashamed of (other than its bosses) with the game known as Samurai Shodown as it enjoys a healthy 3.5 score, allowing it to enjoy space with some other similarly rated games. Not the best fighter we've got on here, but nowhere near the worst. On the other hand, we've gone through quite a spell of titles that haven't been near the elite. The last game to join the top ten was The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Certainly there must be another game worthy of entering the upper crust of the leaderboard? Let's go to the bowl! Not the best draw I've done, but it was really awkward as I had two things in my grasp and I had to ditch one. Nonetheless, we've got our game for the week. It's another 3 in a franchise as this time around we go back to Capcom's Blue Bomber and his seemingly never-ending battle against Dr. Wily. It's Mega Man 3 on the NES! Mega Man 2 currently stands as the highest-rated Mega Man game on our list, but is the third time the charm when it comes to this entry? It's up to you and your feelings on the matter. Let's do this shit and we'll see you next week! No matter what may happen to me, just remember Lzzy Hale gave me the bedroom eyes... ...again. |

I'm pretty sure this was the first game in the franchise I played. Be it I was in the single digits in age, this was rather tough for me. Never did get to the end.

Yeah, it's a toss-up between this one and the original as to which one I consider the hardest. The four Dark Man stages in the middle were a pain and I don't think they were necessary. It's still a good game, I think.

2 major additions to the formula here really make it stand out: the introduction of Rush and the slide mechanic, which helps big time in a lot of areas.

Gemini Man probably had my favorite stage theme from the game. This version was actually my ringtone, briefly.

Oh this one!
This was the 2nd Mega Man game I played, only having played 2 before this one. I think I rented this from a grocery store after having some dental work done. It was a reward for doing well. Hard man was the first one I went for, and apparently it was the right one to go to. I don't recall completing this one, but I did get to the Wily levels at least. Mega Man games never really "did it" for me, but they were good time killers. I did play the FOOK outta Megaman X on SNES though. That shit was really fun. 3 |

5/5
I like 3 more than 2 even if 2 is probably the better game. I loved the shit outta this though even if it dragged a bit near the end (re-fighting all the MM2 bosses etc) as always, a great soundtrack, but again not as good as 2's |

Voted Never Played but I've played it a little bit via an emulator although not enough to actually remember anything about it.
Until Mega Man 9, I never owned a Mega Man game and only played a little here and there for games in the series beforehand. Didn't help that my NES collection back in the day was just 4 games and nobody I knew of owned this game or other games in the series while growing up. |
